Boardman Wins Glenwood Beers Super Sportsman Championship Race
Bruce Hordusky Super Late Model Winner
at Eriez Speedway

Erie, Pa: Glenwood Beers sponsored the Super Sportsman Championship Race
at Eriez Speedway. John Boardman assumed the lead on lap twelve of the Super
Sportsman Championship race when leader Joe Buccola Sr. pulled into the pits.
Boardman held off Bobby Rohrer win the event for his second of the season.
Veteran Bruce Hordusky passed Wendell Pinckney with four laps remaining to win
the Super Late Model feature. Lester Shoff won his fourth Spectator feature.
John Cline held off Pat McGuire to win his first of the season in the Outlaw
Cadet division. Dave Hess Jr. nipped Dustin Eckman at the start finish line to
win his fourth E-Mod feature. Kayla Riefstahl won her first Lady Challenger
feature and Leonard Enos won his first in the Super Challenger division.
Jake Eller and Chris Kuschel were on the front row for the Glenwood Beer
Super Sportsman Championship race. Eller held on to the top spot on the start
leading the first lap with Chris Kuschel in second. Hank Francis brought out the
first yellow of the event with three laps complete. Bob Van Arsdale and Joe
Buccola Sr. were third and fourth for the restart. Buccola stole second from
Chris Kuschel on the restart then several cars tangled coming out of turn four
on the restart lap including Bob Hazzard, Tim Nocero, Doug Birath and Scott
Kuschel. Buccola beat Eller to turn one and became the new leader on lap five.
Francis and Hazzard spun for the third yellow with seven laps complete. Boardman
used the high line to pass Eller for second on the restart then Eller lost
another spot to Bobby Rohrer. Eric Ester stopped on the exit of turn two for the
fourth yellow. Eller make contact with the front stretch wall one lap after the
restart then slowed to stop in turn one. Eller drove to the pits during the
yellow. Buccola was able to move away from the field on the restart as Boardman,
Rohrer and Don McGuire gave chase. Buccola ducked into the pits on lap twelve
turning the lead over to Boardman as the yellow flew for Hazzard. Boardman
remained in the lead but could not shake Rohrer, Pat McGuire and Don McGuire.
Boardman held on to win his second of the season.
John Lobb and Wendell Pinckney led twenty-two Super Late Models to Mark
Matthews green flag to start their feature event. The first start was rejected
by Matthews who accepted the second. The yellow followed the green as Steve
Halpainy stopped in turn four and Jason Dupont stopped in turn two. Lobb led lap
one with Pinckney second followed by Mike Knight and Bruce Hordusky. Doug Eck
brought out the third yellow on lap three with a spin in turn two. Pinckney
muscled his way to the front on the restart as Lobb fell to fourth behind
Hordusky and Kania. Last weeks feature winner Merle Terry brought out the fourth
yellow with six laps complete. Knight stopped with a flat for caution five with
nine laps in the books. Several cars had problems on the restart including Moose
Dunnewold, Dave Lyon and Dupont. Early leader Lobb left during the yellow with a
flat right rear. Rich Gardner slowed the drove into the pits with eleven
complete. The top five at the halfway mark were Pinckney, Hordusky, Kania,
Hackett and Dave Hess. With five to go Hordusky could catch Pinckney but not
make the pass as they both remained in the low groove. Hordusky moved to the
outside of Pinckney on lap twenty-one making the pass as Pinckney nearly spun
loosing five spots. Hordusky ran the final four laps holding off Kania to win
his third of the season.
Mike
Harmon led the first lap of the Spectator feature with Walt Johnson the pole
sitter second and Chris Couchenour third. Couchenour passed Johnson on lap three
for the second spot then the yellow flew for Wade Slaney who had stopped in turn
two. Head started Mark Matthews waived off the restart then accepted the next.
Lester Shoff and Couchenour passed Harmon on the restart lap then ran lap five
side by side until Shoff took control on lap six. Wade Watson took over third as
Harmon pulled into the pits with a left rear flat. Watson last the handle on lap
eight collecting Jason Genco for the third yellow. Johnson and Jeremy English
also spun during the incident. The top five for the lap nine restart were Shoff,
Couchenour, Watson, Josh Lucas and Nate Lester. Tim Thompson stopped at the pit
gate bringing out the yellow with eleven laps complete allowing the field to
close with Shoff who had built a ten car length lead. The yellow quickly
followed the green on the restart as Brian Bush and Carl Marcy tangled on the
back stretch. Shoff remained in front after the restart and Wade Slaney moved
into the top four. Shoff took the checkers for the fourth time. Lester was
second followed by Lucas and Slaney.
Ron
Seeley and Dewey Kinnear were involved in a first lap incident at the start of
the Outlaw Cadet feature. John Cline and Chris Bowman were in the front row for
the restart. Cline led lap one with Bowman second and Pat McGuire third. McGuire
grabbed second after Chrisman slid up the speedway on lap three. McGuire and
Cline had a fifteen car length lead over Chrisman at the half way point with
Andy Knight ten car lengths behind Chrisman for fourth. Cline could not shake
McGuire as the lap wound down but McGuire though moving up along side several
times could not make the pass. Cline won for his first of the seasons.
Twenty-three
E-Mods reported to the speedway for their feature event. Justin Carlson and
Dustin Eckman were on the front row. The beginning of lap two ended quickly as
Don Standley and Alex Feisler spun on the front stretch collecting Eugene
Stetson. All the drivers were okay but all three cars had to be towed from the
speedway. Carlson won the dash to turn one on the restart but the green only
stayed our for one lap and Chris Sutton spun to a stop in turn one. The top five
after the restart were Carlson, Eckman, Mike Hess, Brian Fardink and Dave Hess
Jr. J.R. Cross slowed bringing out the third yellow with four laps complete.
Feisler’s problems continued on the restart as he spun in turn one for yellow
number five. Dave Hess grabbed fourth on the restart then Carlson slowed to a
stop turning the lead over to Eckman with Mike Hess second and Dave Hess third.
Eckman led Mike and Dave Hess after the restart with Fardink fourth. Chuck
Steinle spun with nine laps complete for the sixth caution. Dennis Lunger
suffered a right rear flat on the restart for caution seven. Mike Hess tapped
Eckman on the restart but backed off letting Eckman recover but gave Dave Hess
the inside line to grab the second spot. Dave Hess tapped Eckman on the
backstretch then moved alongside going into turn three barely beating Eckman to
the finish line for his fourth win of the season.
Kayla
Riefstahl grabbed the early lead after a three wide start in the Lady Challenger
feature. Karri Moore grabbed second just before the white but was unable to
catch Riefstahl. Katelyn Pinckney finished third.
John
Mease made hard contact with the turn two fence on the first lap of the Super
Challenger feature bringing out the yellow before the first lap was complete.
Leonard Enos was the leader after the first circuit with Dominic DePonceau
second. Bob Belson moved into the third spot on lap three. Beslon caught
DePonceau on lap six for the second spot and began to run down Enos. Enos had
ten car length lead with two to go and Belson was able to close within three car
lengths at the finish but did not have enough laps to beat Enos.
