6/18 - George Suprick Wins North Auto Crushers Patriot Sprint A-Main and Miles
Stitzinger was the Super Late Model Winner at Stateline Speedway
By Glenn Slocum
Busti, NY: North Auto Crushers
sponsored the events at Stateline Speedway featuring the Patriots Sprint Group.
Twenty-seven sprint cars were on hand along with thirty Super Late Models. Rich
Gardner successfully defended his Budweiser Super Late Model King of the Hill
title against veteran Bob Craig. John Kelsey made it win number two in the
Spectator division. George Suprick held off a hard charging Bryan Howland to win
the Patriot Sprint Group main event. Miles Stitzinger took control of the Super
Late Model feature on lap six and held off Matt Urban and Dave Scott in a
closely contested event. John Cline battled Mike Moore through the entire Outlaw
Cadet feature for his first win of the season. Dave Hess Jr. won his sixth
feature of the season in the E-Mod division. Leslie Armstrong passed Mary
Hammond on lap three winning her fifth Lady Challenger race. Paul Nelson and Jay
Seekings were the Super Challenger winners.
Gary Troutman led every lap of the Patriot Sprint Group
B-Main. Jared Zimbardi was second with Billy Coffey third and in the last
transfer spot was Ken Swan.
George Suprick and Kyle Drum brought the Patriot Sprint Group
out for their twenty lap A-Main. Point leader Brian Howland was in the second
row with Bobby Breen alongside. Drum led the first one but caution flew on lap
two for Dave Schulz sitting sideways in turn three. Suprick was second with Rich
Swarthout third for the restart. Suprick stole the lead from Drum in turn four
at the end of the restart lap. A two car tangle brought out the third yellow.
Drum pulled into the pits during the yellow putting Swarthout second with Breen
third for the restart. Mike Lauterborn left the speedway on the hook and Drum
returned during the yellow. Suprick remained the leader after the single file
restart. Two laps latter Gary Troutman and Ken Swan made contact on the back
stretch bringing out the fourth yellow. Don Adamczyk flipped on the front
straight during the restart stopping the race. Adamczyk was okay but was unable
to continue. Geoff Quackenbush pulled into the pits with a right rear flat
during the yellow. Chris Shuttleworth did a hard flip on the back stretch one
lap after the restart and the red reappeared. Like Adamczyk Shuttleworth was
okay but his car left the speedway on the hook. Seventeen cars remained for the
lap seven restart with Suprick still the leader followed by Howland, Swarthout
and Rick Wilson. Howland challenged Suprick on the restart but could not make
the pass. They continued to battle for the next several laps as Howland remained
on the bottom with Suprick on the high side. Shortly after the halfway mark the
two leaders entered lap traffic and Howland nearly made the pass but a slip in
turn three ruined the attempt. Suprick was able to build a little cushion over
Howland as Howland had trouble recovering from the slip. Suprick won the event
with a ten car length lead over Howland and Wilson finished third.
Twenty-five of the thirty Super Late Models in the pits
reported for their feature event. Chad Valone and Matt Urban led them to the
green. Valone lost a couple of spots on the first lap as Urban led followed by
Mile Stitzinger and Andy Kania. Andy Boozel spun on lap four for the first
caution. Urban, Stitzinger, Kania, Dave Scott and Valone were the top five for
the restart. Stitzinger took control on the restart with Urban second and Scott
third. Kania and Hackett were contesting the number four spot. The race stayed
green as Stitzinger held a slim lead over Urban. Valone spun into the infield
slowing the event with thirteen laps complete. Rich Gardner gained a couple of
spots on the restart moving into the sixth position. Scott made it a three way
battle for the lead over the next six laps then Stitzinger was able to move
ahead by three car lengths over Urban and Scott. Urban pulled alongside
Stitzinger as the white flew but Scott kept Urban busy allowing Stitzinger to
once more move away. Stitzinger held on for the win and Urban beat Scott by a
fender for second.
Mark Luce and Mort John were on the front row for the
Spectator feature with Rodney Thoms and Dave McClenahan. Debris on the speedway
brought out the caution before the completion of the first lap. -Thoms led on
the restart then a multi-car incident brought out the yellow again on lap two.
Thoms, John Kelsey, Josh Lucas and Mort John were the top four for the restart.
Kelsey was first across the line after the restart with Lucas second and Nate
Lester third. Luce slowed on the race track bringing out the third caution with
seven laps complete. Kelsey, Lucas, Lester, Couchenour and John were the top
five. Lester lost his spot to Couchenour then Rick Thompson as Kelsey led. Lucas
spun putting Couchenour second on lap ten and the green stayed out. Lester
passed Thompson for the third spot with two to go. No one could catch Kelsey who
notched his second win of the season.
Scott Kuschel led the first lap of the Budweiser Super
Sportsman feature. John Volpe was second followed by Bobby Rohrer. Volpe and
Rohrer and fought for the runner up spot the entire first half of the event.
Rohrer fought clear of Volpe and passed Kuschel on lap nine. Rohrer built a
solid lead though the remainder of the event then in the final corner lost a
left front tire but he never missed a beat winning the event on three wheels.
Mark Hall used his pole starting spot to lead the first lap of
the Outlaw Cadet feature. A lap four incident involving Dave Tackett and Paul
Norman brought out the yellow. John Cline was second with Rick Loomis third,
Mike Moore fourth and Nathan Short fifth. Cline led after the restart as Hall
fell to third with Moore second. Moore began applying the pressure to Cline as
the race stayed green. Several times Moore was able to move along side of Cline
but always fell a fender short of the pass. Cline went on to his first win of
the season just clipping Moore at the line.
Dale Applebee led Dave Hess Jr. at the end of the first E-Mod
feature lap. A four car incident on lap three involving Justin Carlson, Dana
Wellington, Jim Hilyer and Joe Smith brought out the yellow. Dave Hess used the
outside to gain the number one spot on the restart as Applebee was second
followed by Mike Munsee, Tom Hagberg and Carlson. Carlson lost two spots to
Quincy Turner and Mike Hess. Munsee slowed on lap ten bringing out the yellow
with ten laps complete. Dave Hess, Applebee, Hagberg, Turner and Mike Hess were
the top five for the restart. Ryan Scott and Dave Surrena brought the caution
out just after the green. Dave Hess continued to lead after the restart and just
as the two to go signal was given Hagberg pulled into the pits. Dave Hess ran
the remaining laps unchallenged with Applebee second and Turner third.
Paul Nelson won the drag race to turn one to lead the first
lap of the first Super Challenger feature. Monty Seekings Jr. was second with
Ben Burgess third. Aron Dascomb passed Burgess for the third spot on lap five.
Anthony Green and John Fardink tangled for the only yellow of the event. Nelson
was able to hang on for his second win.
Ronald Barr slowed to a stop on the initial start of the
second Super Challenger feature bringing out the yellow before the first lap was
completed. Jay Seekings led after the restart followed by Brian Swift and Tim
Dulmus. John Mease moved into the top three two laps later Dulmus fell back two
spots just behind Sam Courson. Mease stopped in turn four with six laps
completed for the second yellow. Courson was sent to the pits by head starter
Mark Matthews because of the incident. Seekings led the final laps with Swift
second and Dan Nocero Sr. third.
