By Glenn Slocum
Busti, NY: The 50th Season celebration continued at Stateline
Speedway. Chris Couchenour won his first Spectator feature of the season. Dick
Barton started ninth and finished first in the Super Late Model event. Barton
passed veteran Wally Fox with one lap remaining to notch his first win of the
season and garner the Craiger Race Engines free Dyno test. Pat McGuire won his
second Budweiser Super Sportsman feature. Rich Gardner retained the Budweiser
Super Late Model King of the Hill title defeating Dave Hess Jr. in the five lap
match race. Paul Norman swapped the lead with Troy Dorman then took control on
lap nine to win his first Outlaw Cadet feature. Dave Hess Jr. beat Mike Hess to
line by a bumper to win his fourth of the season in the E-Mod division.

Moose Dunnewold, Mike Knight and Dave Lyon in turn four. Hess went to the pits
during the yellow and twenty-two cars remained for the lap two restart. Maloy
and Scott Gurdak were the big losers on the restart as several cars sped into

entrance for the third yellow. The yellow saved the lead for Fox who had been
passed by Eck just before the yellow. Paul Briggs, Matt Lanphere and George
LaBarbera tangled on the restart for the fourth yellow. LaBarbera came back
around during the yellow then spun Briggs and went to the pits. A poor start
brought the field back around for a second try. Fox held onto the lead with Eck
second and Kania and Barton fighting for third. Barton and Kania ran several
laps side by side before Kania gained a slight advantage on lap eleven. Eck went
high coming out of turn two nearly collecting Kania causing a yellow with twelve
complete. Barton took advantage of the incident to gain the runner up spot with
Kania third and John Lobb fourth. Seventeen cars remained for the restart. Fox
was able go hold of Kania and Gardner reappeared in the top five taking fourth
from Lobb. Kania passed Barton two laps later for the second spot with Fox in
front by two car lengths. Barton regained second on lap seventeen putting Kania

Sportsman feature. Bobby Rohrer was first to the line on the restart followed

the E-Mod main event. Turner grabbed second and Carr and Dale Applebee battled
for the third spot. Dave Hess joined the battle for third and the yellow
appeared for Dana Wellington in turn four. Mike Hess, Turner, Applebee and Dave
Hess were the first four for the restart. Dave Hess passed Applebee on lap eight
for the third spot then caught and passed Turner three laps latter for second.
Dave Hess was on Mike Hess’s rear bumper as the white flew but before the last
lap was completed the yellow appeared for Dave Surrena. The last lap dash was
won by Dave Hess who used the outside lane coming down for the checkers beating
Mike to the line by a bumper. Applebee passed Turner on the final lap for the
third spot. It was Dave Hess Jr.’s fourth win of the season in five starts.
