Busti, NY: Perfect racing weather was enjoyed by all for the final point
night sponsored by Jim and Jean Scott’s NW Penn of Garland. Travis Swabik
grabbed the lead on lap eight then hung on through several cautions to win his
first Spectator feature. Nate Lester was crowned Spectator Champion for
Stateline, Eriez and the Series. Andy Kania successfully defended his Super Late
Model Budweiser King of the Hill title defeating John Lobb. Lobb reversed the
roles in the Super Late Model feature finishing one spot ahead of Kania to claim
the points title and Kania held on to the Circuit Championship. Rich Gardner
grabbed the lead with one to go in Super Late Model feature for his first of the
season. Mike Kosinski led every lap of the Budweiser Super Sportsman feature for
his fifth win but could not catch Chad Carlson in the point race as Carlson
wrapped up the Stateline and Series titles. Pat McGuire won his second in a row
in a caution filled Outlaw Cadet feature and veteran Mike Moore held on to the
point lead with seventh place finish. Dave Hess Jr. won his eighth E-Mod feature
and cinched the Stateline and Series point championship. Kayla Riefstahl won the
Lady Challenger feature, Mary Hammond won the points race and Amber Belson was
the Series Champion. Richie Seaholm won his first Super Challenger feature and
Butch Camarata won his second. Aron Dascomb won the Super Challenger titles.
Merle Terry and Chad Valone were on the front row of the Super Late Model
feature with Rich Gardner and Randy Shearer in row two. Valone led the first
circuit with Terry second and Shearer third. Gardner settled into fourth with
Scott Gurdak fifth and Andy Kania sixth. Gardner moved alongside Shearer to
challenge for the third spot on lap six and the two raced side by side for
several laps until Gardner finally completed the pass. Valone was into lap
traffic on lap ten. At the half way mark Valone and Terry were nose to tail in
heavy lap traffic with Gardner several car lengths back. Hess and Randy Lobb
came together on lap eighteen and Randy Lobb pulled into the infield. Valone,
Terry and Gardner were all together with three to go then Gardner grabbed the
second spot as Matthews showed two laps remaining. Gardner made the pass for the
lead coming down for white flag and led the finial circuit for his first win of
the season. John Lobb did what he had to do finishing one spot in front of Kania
to capture the Super Late Model title and Kania became the Series Champion.
Joe
McMurdy tangled with the back stretch wall on lap two of the Spectator feature
for the first yellow as Dave Surrena led with Robert Kinne second. John Britt
grabbed second as Surrena led lap two then Mike Zemcik spun to a stop on the
back stretch for the second caution. Travis Swabik was third on the restart with
Surrena and Britt the leaders. Josh Lucas and Nate Lester were fourth and fifth.
Lester passed Lucas on lap seven had trouble in turn one for the third caution.
Surrena stopped during the yellow and had to be pushed into the pits placing
Britt in the top spot with Swabik second Lucas third. Swabik out raced Britt to
turn one on the restart to lead lap eight. Debris brought out the caution on lap
nine. Swabik remained the race leader after the restart. Two laps later Lucas
slowed for the fourth yellow. Swabik, Brigg, Bill Reeves, Jason Genco and Lester
were the top five for the lap eleven restart. Lester continued to charge back
taking second with two laps remaining but could not run down Swabik. It was
Swabik’s first win of the season.
Tim
Nocero and Jake Eller led the Budweiser Super Sportsman to Mark Matthews green
flag for the start of their feature event. Mike Kosinski beat both Nocero and
Eller to the flag at then end of lap one for the lead. Eller lost the handle on
lap four for the first yellow. Kosinski, Nocero and John Boardman were the top
three for the restart. The point leader Chad Carlson slowed then spun on the
back stretch after making contact with Bobby Rohrer for the second yellow.
Kosinski led the restart lap but the yellow flew for Nocero with had spun to
stop in turn four. The top three for the restart were Kosinski, Pat McGuire and
Chris Kuschel. Kosinski was leader at the half way point with McGuire one car
length back. McGuire upped the pressure on Kosinski on lap ten then the yellow
flew for John Volpe in turn three on lap eleven. Kosinski held on to the lead
once more with McGuire second and Rohrer third. Joe Buccola stopped with one lap
to go setting up a one lap dash for the win. Mathews waived off the first
restart then accepted the second and Kosinski once more held on for the win.
Bob
Vogt Jr. led the first lap of the Outlaw Cadet feature with Steve Moynihan
second and Mark Hall third. Paul Norman brought out the first yellow on lap
three after spinning to a stop at the exit of turn four. Norman had driven over
a tractor tire used to mark the infield. Vogt and Moynihan make contact at the
flags stand on the restart and Moynihan took the lead. Ron Seeley brought out
the caution one lap later. The top three after the restart were Moynihan, Vogt
and Jamie Erhard. Erhard and Phil Knight tangled on the front stretch on lap
seven for the third caution. Both Erhard and Phil Knight went into the pit
during the yellow. Moynihan the race leader brought out the next caution after
slowing on the restart lap. Vogt assumed the lead with point leader Mike Moore
second and Pat McGuire in third. Moore pulled into the pits during the yellow
then came back out to join at the tail end of the field. McGuire used the high
groove to power by Vogt for the lead on the restart. One lap latter David Marrs,
Seeley and Mark Hall tangled for the fifth yellow. McGuire remained the leader
at the half way mark then Brian Zimmerly, George Milks and Moore brought out the
yellow after an incident on the front stretch. McGuire remained in control with
Vogt second and Andy Knight third. Andy Knight and Vogt charged into turn one on
lap twelve and Vogt spun losing his second place moving Andy Knight to second
and Nathan Short to third. Short slowed on the restart and Troy Dorman spun into
the infield. Joe Harvey did a slow spin in traffic at the restart and Moore
narrowly avoided contact then Harvey stopped in turn two and the yellow flew
again. Dorman and Marrs had trouble for the tenth caution. McGuire ran the final
three laps unchallenged for his second win of the season and Moore won the point
title.
Justin
Carlson and Troy Carr were on the front row for the E-Mod feature and Carlson
led the first circuit with Carr second and Dave Hess Jr. third. Hess took second
from Carr on the second lap. Quincy Turner spun coming out of turn four on lap
four bringing out the first caution of the event. Turner left the speedway on
the hook. Hess grabbed the lead on the restart and Tom Hagberg moved into third
just ahead of Mike Hess. Matt Swanson and Jason Illig tangled in turn two on lap
six for caution two. Dave Hess resumed building his lead after the restart. A
lap twelve spin involving Brian Fardink and Steve Simon caused caution three.
Greg Johnson spun to a stop one lap later for caution four. The final three laps
went smoothly for Dave Hess as he won his eighth feature and cinched the point
championship.
Tara
Jordan led every lap except the last one in the Lady Challenger feature. Jordan
tangled with race winner Kayla Riefstahl on the final lap.
Rod
Birt led the first five laps of the first Super Challenger feature giving way to
Richie Seaholm on lap six. Seaholm won with Birt second.
Butch
Camarata and Jermin Strickland swapped the lead twice in the second Super
Challenger feature. Camarata won as Strickland faded in the final laps.
