Saturday August 20, 2011-
Busti, NY: Maplevale Farms presented specials for the Super Challengers and the
Super Sportsmen classes Saturday night with Nocero and Diabo taking home the
extra cash. Other winners were Paul Nelson (Spectator), Ryan Scott
(Cadet), Kyle Scott (Crates), David Scott (Super Late Models), and Jaben Hill
(E-Mods) picking up his first-ever win.
First
up was the Spectator feature with Nick Mohawk and Sam Conti on the front row.
After two lap one cautions the race got underway with Mohawk showing the way for
the first four laps until Joe Karash spun in turn three, collecting Josh Crull.
Second-running Sam Conti spun coming out of turn four at the end of the first
lap after green, again slowing the event. After another restart Jason Covey came
to the lead with Paul Fisher also coming by the leader for second. Another
caution came at lap nine involving last week’s winner, Dennis Asel and Mohawk
again slowed the field. After a lap ten restart Paul Nelson got by Covey
for the lead. At lap 13 caution flew again for Josh Crull and Dennis Asel,
spinning in turn one. With the time limit reached, the checkers were shown with
Nelson getting the win, his fourth of the season. Covey wound up second, Mike
Moon third, Ken Lamp Jr. fourth, and Kyle Weilacher rounding out the top five.
The
Outlaw Cadet feature got underway with Ryan Scott and Kelly Frederes on the
front row. Scott leapt out to a large lead early with Steve Moynihan battling
Frederes for the runner-up spot until a caution slowed the action at lap five.
At lap 12 Chad Carlson replaced Moynihan in the battle for second and got the
spot three laps later. By this time Scott was out to a large lead and Carlson
was unable to close the gap. Scott went on to his fourth win of the season.
Carlson was second, followed by Frederes, Moynihan, and Steve Kania.
The
Crate Late Model feature had Bob Dorman and Kyle Scott pacing the field, Dorman
grabbing the lead at the green. Justin Tatlow, a winner earlier this season,
spun out of the third spot in lap two, slowing the race. When the green flag
again was shown, Scott came to the front, looking for his third win on the
season. By lap six, Chad Silleman was second, trailing the leader by five
car-lengths. Scott lengthened his lead over the remaining distance. Silleman was
second with Dorman third, Bob Kish fourth, and Wendell Pinckney fifth.
The
Super Late Models had Bump Hedman starting from the pole with David Scott
alongside. Scott grabbed the lead with Chris Hackett and Bump Hedman narrowly
avoiding disaster at the end of lap one when they came together on the front
straight, fishtailing wildly, but maintaining control. Hackett eventually got by
Hedman but Scott had a near straight-a-way lead at the end of ten laps. Pete
Alspaugh got by Hedman for third at lap ten. Hedman came back to run side by
side with Alspaugh for several laps but eventually fell back. Doug Eck also got
by at lap 14. With five to go Scott had over a quarter lap lead on Hackett with
Eck now third. At this point Eck was pulling alongside Hackett in the turns but
the Hackett was able to maintain the spot for another three laps before Eck
finished the pass. Scott cruised to his second win of the season over Eck with
Hackett third, Alspaugh fourth and Dutch Davies fifth in a race that went flag
to flag under green. Victory Lane became a Scott family reunion when David was
joined by his sons Kyle, winner of the Crate Late feature, and Wyant, who had
won a Go-Kart feature earlier in the day, nephew Ryan, who had won the Outlaw
Cadet feature, and his father, Jim, a 15-time winner from Stateline’s early
years.
Don
McGuire was the early leader in the Maplevale Farms special for the Super
Sportsmen cars with Wade Watson getting by just as caution ensued for a wreck in
turn one, negating the pass. After a lengthy caution the race was again underway
with Dan Nocero coming by for the lead this time, at four laps complete. A
lap later point’s leader Joe Buccola replaced McGuire for second.
McGuire’s night came to an end before halfway when his mount lost power and came
to a halt on the front straight. Nocero got the win, his fifth of the season,
over Buccola, Ben Burgess Jr, Brent Crandall, and Mike Kosinski.
John
Boardman lead the way in the early going of the E-Mod feature with yellow
appearing at lap four for an incident in turn four. After green Jaben Hill
got by the leader after one lap, but caution again was shown for a spin by Karl
Born. Two laps later Nathan Hill also got by Boardman with Rich Michael
coming to third at lap ten from his seventh place starting berth. At the next
restart Michael was second, between the Hills, with former track champ Ron
Seeley fourth and early leader Boardman back to fifth. Using the high line
proved disastrous for Michael as he scraped the wall at lap 15, then spun in
turn two on lap 16. Michael retired to the pits. For the restart it was
Jaben Hill, Nathan Hill, Seeley, Darren Tarabori, and Greg Johnson holding the
top five spots. Tarabori dropped a driveshaft at the restart, again slowing the
action. Two more cautions slowed Hill’s march to his first-ever feature win.
Nathan Hill was second with Seeley third, Scott Gurdak fourth, and Greg Johnson
fifth.
Don
Hebner led the first two laps of the Maplevale Farms Challenger Special, then
Jimmy Diabo took over at the front and drove to his fourth feature win of the
season. Skip Jackson got by Hebner for the runner-up spot at lap eight but then
Hebner regained the spot on the final lap. Josh Hebner was fourth with Chris
Knisley fifth.
