 at Stateline Speedway

Saturday July 16th, 2011 Busti, NY: Hot racing and hot weather for the Jays Auto Wrecking ULMS $4,000 to win Super Late Model event at Stateline Speedway.

Veteran Mike Moon made an early charge from eighth to first by lap three then held on through several cautions for his first Spectator win of the season.

John Haggerty led from green to checkers for his first Crate Late Model win at Stateline Speedway

Dave Hess Jr. never relinquished the lead in the Jay’s Auto Wrecking ULMS Super Late Model event surviving several cautions but was never really challenged for the win. It was his second ULMS win at Stateline for the season and his third in four attempts.

Young Steve Kania handily won the Outlaw Cadet feature in race free of yellows.

The green to checkers run continued in the E-Mod division with John Boyd winning his first of the season.

Dan Nocero Jr. won his third Super Sportsman feature.

Skip Jackson won the Super Challenger event his second of the season.

Sam Courson and Eric Paulus were on the front row for the Spectator feature with Doug Moore and Cody Bliss in row two. Paulus led the first circuit with veteran Mike Moon already in second from his eighth starting spot. A seven car tangle marred lap three for the first caution of the event. Dennis Asel last weeks winner was involved along with Steve Keith, Josh Crull, Todd Crull, Damon Lewis and Ken Lamp Jr. Doug Moore stopped crosswise on the speedway on the restart and collected Sam Courson, John Britt and Cody Bliss. Moon was the leader at the end of lap three with Paulus second and Brian Crandall third. Ken Lamp Jr., Jason Covey and Todd Bacon were the next to bring out the yellow with seven laps complete. Paul Nelson moved up to second when Kyle Weilacher spun in turn one for the fourth caution. Ten laps were complete and the restart leaders were Moon, Nelson, Paulus, Doug Harvey and Nicholas Mohawk. Harvey lost the handle two laps after the restart for caution five. Weilacher spun again collecting Lamp, Crandall, Meyers and Harvey. Nelson tested Moon on the restart but could not hang with the high flying Moon. Moon won the event going away for his first win of the season.

John Haggerty and Kyle Scott were on the front row for the Crate Late Model feature and Haggerty became the early leader. A three car tangle collected Ed Carley, Scott, and T.J. Downs for the first caution. Justin Kreider and Adam Hilyer did a tandem spin for caution two. Three laps were complete with Haggerty, Newt Tackett and Steve Dixon were the restart leaders. Haggerty was able to extend his lead over the next green flag run as Dixon was trying to hold off Bob Dorman for second. Tackett had slipped to fourth and had Ed Carley on his bumper challenging for the spot. With 10 laps complete Haggerty led by half a straight with Dorman and Dixon side by side for second. Kreider spun with 12 laps complete for caution three. One more lap was completed before the next caution with four cars involved. They were four wide on the restart for second place. Dixon held onto the spot as Haggerty moved away from the filed. Harvey tested the turn two concrete with sixteen laps complete for caution four. Dixon lost second to Dorman on the restart with Haggerty once more moving away. Justin Tatlow and John Lacki brought out caution five. The just two laps remained in the event. Haggerty held on for the win his first Crate Late win at Stateline.

Dave Hess Jr. led twenty-two Super Lates to the start of the Jay’s Auto Wrecking ULMS 30 lap feature event with $4,000 on the line. Greg Oakes was alongside Hess with Mike Knight in row two along with Dutch Davies. Chad Valone and Chris Hackett made up row three. Hess was five car lengths ahead of Knight at the end of the first circuit. Randy Lobb went up in smoke and Dennis Lunger spun for the first caution. Hess, Knight, Oakes, Valone and Davies were the restart leaders. Oakes started smoking and the caution flew before lap two was completed. Oakes was pushed into the pits moving Valone to third, Davies to fourth and Doug Ricotta to fifth. A near spin caused flagman Mark Matthews to through the yellow on the restart. Lap four went into the books as led by Hess then on lap four Ricotta hit the back stretch wall. Rod Maloy lost the handle in turn three and when the dust settled Nathan Short and Lunger were stopped on the speedway for caution five. Hess changed his line on the restart sticking to the inside. Knight trailed Hess by five car lengths with a third of the event complete. Valone was a distant third followed by Davies and Eck contesting the fourth spot. Scott Johnson nosed into the turn four fence for caution six just three laps from the half way mark. After the half way point Davies and Valone began to lose ground to the leaders as Knight stayed in close contact with Hess and Eck was running alone in third nearly a straight away ahead of Davies and Valone. With five to go Hess was on cruise control. Knight moved up the speedway to try to move up to the leader but failed to make up any ground. Hess finished unchallenged for his third win in four attempts at Stateline and his second ULMS win at Stateline this season.

Steve Kania used his pole starting spot to his advantage moving quickly away from the Outlaw Cadet field in their feature event. Chad Carlson was a distant second by Steve Moynihan and Jake Finnerty. After 10 laps of green flag racing Kania led by nearly a full straight. Kania handily won the first caution free feature of the night for his first win of the season.

John Boyd led the first lap of the E-Mod feature with last week’s winner Greg Johnson second. Joshua John spun with five laps complete for the first caution. Boyd, Johnson, Scott Gurdak, Dan Davies and Mike Eschrich were the leaders. Davies moved into third right after the restart as he and Johnson tried to keep up with Boyd. John had more problems on lap nine collecting Ben Burgess Jr. Rich Michael Jr. and Butch Southwell passed Eschrich for fifth with eleven laps completed. Boyd continued as the leader just out of Johnson’s reach. Caution three happened for a Burgess spin into the infield in turn two. Davies slowed coming out of turn two right after the green and Justin Carlson stopped as the yellow flew, Davies drove to the pits and Carlson was towed. Eschrich pulled into the infield on lap just two laps from the end. Burgess continued to struggle with a spin as the leader took the white flag setting up a one lap dash for the win. Boyd was up to the challenge getting his first win of the season.

Wade Watson slid up to the fence in the first corner of the event then three laps later hit the wall in the same spot as Clint Brady led followed by Dan Nocero and Ben Burgess Jr. Point leader Joe Buccola pulled into the pits as the yellow flew. Burgess had mechanical problems with six laps complete for the second caution. Nocero, Brady and Watson were the restart leaders. It was an easy win for Nocero with only six cars finishing the event.
