Dutch Davies Sets Fast Time
and Doug Eck Wins Super Late Feature at Stateline Speedway

By Glenn Slocum

Saturday July 23rd, 2011 Busti, NY: Hot and humid described the race night and the racing as Stateline Speedway celebrated its 55th birthday. In a special timed event for the Super Late Models dubbed the "Race for the Record" saw Dutch Davies take home the $1,000 top prize with veterans Dick Barton second and Rich Gardner in a brand new car third.

Doug Eck won his third Super Late Model feature with a thrilling high side pass of last years champ Chris Hackett.

Paul Nelson won his third Spectator feature with a late race pass to extend his points lead.

Dan Nocero Jr. inherited the Super Sportsman lead after Ben Burgess Jr. had mechanical problems then went on to win his third of the season.

Justin Tatlow led just the final few feet of the Crate Late Model feature to win his first feature at Stateline Speedway.

Alex Froman impressed the crowd with a green to checkers run in the E-Mod feature besting a 27 car field.

The Outlaw Cadet and Super Challenger features were rained out.

Doug Harvey led the first lap of the Spectator feature but his lead was short lived. Brian Crandall passed Harvey as lap two ended. The pole sitter Cody Bliss stopped nosed into the back stretch wall for the first caution of the event. Kyle Weilacher, Todd Bacon and Steve Keith Jr. brought out the second yellow with three laps complete. Matt Sampson spun to a stop in turn two for caution three with eight laps down. Crandall, point leader Paul Nelson, Jeremy Williams, and Gary Fisher were the restart leader. A four car incident caused caution four on the restart. Crandall and Nelson waged a heated contest for the top spot through the next few laps then Keith had problems in turn two for caution five. Tens laps were complete. A near spin caused caution six with eleven laps. Crandall took the off poll starting spot for the restart, led the next lap then slipped coming out or turn two losing the top spot to Nelson. Harvey and Eric Paulus slowed the race with two laps remaining. Nelson won his third of the season extending his point lead.

Jake Eller fell to Ben Burgess Jr. on lap two of the Super Sportsman feature. Dan Nocero Jr. was running down Burgess when Burgess did a snap spin in turn two bringing out the first caution. Burgess had obvious mechanical problems and left the speedway on the hook. Nocero was the new leader with early leader Eller second and Joe Buccola Jr. third, five laps were complete. Buccola grabbed second on lap seven sending Eller to third. Buccola could not catch the high flying Nocero as he notched his third win of the season.

Chris Hackett and Andy Boozel were on the front row for the Super Late Model feature and Hackett used his starting spot to lead the first lap with Dick Barton second and Boozel third. Doug Eck passed Boozel on lap three and set his sights on Barton as Hackett extended his lead. Eck beat Barton out of turn four at the end of lap six for the runner up spot as the leader entered turn one. After ten laps Eck was slowly closing with the leader as he approached lap traffic. Eck found Hackett’s bumper with thirteen laps complete and began to look for an opening. Eck snuck under Hackett and raced side by side with Eck through lap 16. Hackett remained the leader then as lap nineteen ended Eck made an outside pass of Hackett coming out of turn four then dived to the bottom to become the new race leader. Once Eck passed Hackett he began to build a lead as the laps wound down. Eck won the caution free event several car lengths ahead Hackett for his third of the season.

John Lacki and Ed Carley made up the front row of the Crate Late feature. Lap one ended with a spin by Newt Tackett. Lacki was the leader with Carley second and Bob Dorman third. The leaders were three wide for the lead through the next lap with Carley coming out on top, Lacki second and Dorman third. A spin by Bob Kish caused the second caution of the race with four laps complete. One lap later the third caution appeared after Wendell Pinckney stopped in turn four. Carley was definitely in charge after the restart with Dorman a able to close in the corners then lose down the straights. Lacki moved to the high side and first passed Dorman then became the race leader on lap fourteen. Adam Hilyer stopped in the entrance of turn three for the fourth yellow with 15 of the 20 laps complete. Lacki stayed on the outside for the restart and maintained the race lead. Carley moved up but the Lacki groove did not work for him as he lost several spots. A lap nineteen spin by Silleman caused caution five. The last restart saw Lacki try the high side but this time it did not work and Justin Tatlow came from nowhere making a last lap last corner pass for the win.

Dave Atkinson won the dash to turn one but was nipped at the line by Alex Froman for the early lead in the E-Mod feature. Joshua John spun at the end of lap two for the first caution of the 27 car event. Last weeks feature winner was second for the restart. Froman. The race stayed green until a spin by John Boardman slowed the race with 10 laps down. Froman, Boyd, Michael, Atkinson and Dustin Eckman were the race leaders. Five cars failed to exit turn four on the restart lap. Justin Carlson, John Woodward Jr., Leonard Enos, Ron Seeley and Cale Crocker were involved. Mike Eschrich had joined Froman, Boyd, Michael and Atkinson as the leaders. Froman continued to master the restart and Michael moved up the speedway in an attempt to run down Froman. Michael was able to run down Boyd but Froman was un-catch able. It was the first win in an E-Mod for Froman in an impressive run from green to checkers.

The Outlaw Cadets failed to get out of turn four for the initial start of their feature event and the skies opened ending the racing night.
