July 9th, 2011 - Doug Eck Gets Second Super Late
Win
on Autograph Night at Stateline Speedway
By Glenn Slocum
Saturday July 9th, 2011 Busti, NY: A warm summer
evening was enjoyed by all on Autograph and Sponsor night at Stateline Speedway.
Sunoco Race Fuels, Leroy’s Towing and Chautauqua Contracting Unlimited sponsored
the evening’s events.
Joe Buccola Jr. led from lap six to win the Super Sportsman Special after
passing early leader Wade Watson.
Dennis Asel won the caution shortened Spectator Special leading from lap two.
Doug Eck came from 14th to win his second of the season in Super Late
event that saw Scott Johnson lead then Greg Oakes. Eck led just the final four
laps.
Steve Dixon won a caution filled Crate Late Model feature for his second of the
season.
Greg Johnson led from the green for his first E-Mod win of the season surviving
a late race charge by Scott Gurda
Ryan Scott won his second Outlaw Cadet feature leading from the initial green in
a race which saw only one caution.

Scott Dellahoy Jr. collected his third Super Challenger victory.
Mark Fox was on the pole for the Super Sportsman feature but the first lap was
led by fifth starting Wade Watson. Joe Buccola Jr. and Ben Burgess Jr. quickly
joined Watson at front and on lap six Buccola led by a nose. Burgess cut turn
one a little too close clipping a tractor tire used to mark the inside of the
speedway causing the first caution and sending Burgess to the rear. At the
half way point Buccola led Watson by ten car lengths with Mike Kosinski and Dan
Nocero Jr. 15 car lengths back fighting for the third spot. With 5 laps
remaining Burgess had made it up to fifth. With 16 complete Brent Crandall’s car
went up in smoke causing the second yellow and allowing the field to close with
Buccola. Buccola quickly regained his ten car length lead then the third yellow
occurred as Clint Brady had spun in the exit of turn four setting up a one lap
dash for the win. Buccola was able to hold on for the win with Watson second.

Eric Paulus and Dennis Asel were on the front row for the Spectator 20 lap
Special. Steve Keith caused the first caution on the initial lap then waited for
the yellow. Paulus led Asel by a nose after the first lap then Sam Courson spun
to a stop in turn two for the second caution. Asel was the leader into turn one
and at the end of the pack Doug Harvey collected Brad Strickland and Kevin
Golden for the third caution. Courson spun on the restart then was sent to the
pits for causing two yellows. Yellow five happened on lap six as Todd Bacon spun
in the exit of turn two. Asel remained the leader with Paulus second and Kyle
Weilacher third. Caution six saw Keith in his second caution. A lap eleven spin
by Josh Crull ended his racing evening for caution seven. Gary Fisher was third
for the restart and one lap later grabbed second from Paulus. Lee Meyers became
a contender then spun collecting three other cars for caution eight. Five laps
remained with Asel still the leader, Fisher second Weilacher back to third after
the Meyers spin. Veteran Mike Moon ended the event with a spin in turn one after
16 laps sending Asel to the winners circle.
Scott Johnson was the first into turn one on the Super Late Model feature with
Doug Ricotta second and Greg Oakes third. Scott Gurdak and Andy Boozel spun
together on lap five for caution number one. Johnson, Ricotta, Oakes, Darrel
Bossard and Rod Maloy were the restart leaders. Oakes was the fastest car on the
track but Johnson was able to remain the leader and Chris Hackett was third. The
second caution occurred with eleven laps complete after Bossard spun with help
collecting Randy Lobb in turn three. Johnson, Oakes, Hackett, Maloy and Ricotta
were the top five. A track tire was punted into the center of the speedway on
the restart for caution three. Johnson gave Oakes the outside on the restart and
Oakes led lap 12. Johnson stayed in the low groove and lose second to Hackett
two lap laps later. Hackett retired to the pits on lap sixteen. Doug Eck made
his charge to the front leading on on lap 22. Eck used the outside lane for the
run in just two laps after taking the lead has amassed a ten car length
advantage.
Last weeks feature winner Ed Carley was on the pole for Crate Late Model
feature. Carley took the early lead but was soon caught by Steve Dixon. Dixon
went outside and Carley hugged the inside with Dixon leading lap four. Brian
Haggerty spun collecting Bruce Hordusky Jr. with five laps complete for the
first caution. Dixon led the restart with John Haggerty second. Garret Stephen
spun for caution two. Two laps later four cars tangled. Ten laps were complete
with Dixon still in front with John Haggerty second, Kyle Scott third and Carley
fourth. Todd Sweet spun on lap twelve then again on lap thirteen. Lap fourteen
was marred with another spin and the restart failed when Dixon started too
early. Carley tested Dixon on the restart but could not complete the pass. Dixon
ran the final laps unchallenged for his second win.
Greg Johnson was leading the E-Mod feature when the caution flew for Karl Born.
Three laps were complete, John Boardman was second with Dave Shagla third and
Scott Gurdak fourth. Gurdak went from fourth to second just before the yellow
fell for Brian Fardink facing the wrong direction high in turn two. Dustin
Eckman was caught up in the Fardink spin. Dan Davies spun and Alex Froman had
now where to go for caution three. A lap nine yellow involved Dan Sasso and
Randy Raynor. Nine laps were complete with Johnson still in front followed by
Gurdak, Boardman and Justin Carlson. Gurdak remained in the high groove after
the restart and lost ground to the leader then lost second to Boardman. With
five laps remaining Johnson led by half a straight. Carlson spun collecting
Nathan Hill. Gurdak would not give up on the high side of the speedway and
though he was able get alongside the leader he just could not complete the pass.
Johnson survived the charge for his first win of the season.

Ryan Scott led Jake Finnerty on the initial laps of the Outlaw Cadet feature.
Steve Kania was third with Steve Moynihan fourth. A two car spin slowed the race
with six laps complete. Bob Rouche and Chad Schauers were involved. Everyone
moved to the bottom of the speedway and the laps wound down. Scott slowly
widened his lead over Finnerty and Kania help Moynihan and Chad Carlson at Bay.
Scott took the win his second of the year.
