Jared Zimbardi Patriot Sprint Winner, Andy Boozel Wins Super Late Feature at Stateline Speedway

By Glenn Slocum

Saturday May 28th, 2011 Busti, NY: The Patriot Sprint Group thanks to Valone Ford made their only appearance of the season at Stateline. Vern Wasson won Sprint Dash and sat on the pole for their A-Main. 2010 Patriot Champ Bryan Howland suffered mechanical problems in what looked like a sure win and Jared Zimbardi stepped up and won the 25 lap event going away.

Joe Buccola Jr. held off Wade Watson to get his second Super Sportsman win of the season.

Chad Carlson won the M.A.C. Truck Parts and Chadís Ring and Pinion Outlaw Cadet Special from his second starting spot,

Andy Boozel led from the start of the Super Late Model event surviving several restarts and pressure from veteran Dave Scott to get his first win.

Brent Rhebergen took control of the E-Mod feature on lap three and never looked back surviving several cautions for his first win of the season.

Dennis Lunger became the first Crate Late driver to get multiple wins with his second in a green to checkers run.

Damon Lewis won a shortened Spectator event after enduring eleven cautions in thirteen laps.

Rain ended the racing night before the Super Challenger feature could be run.

Clint Haskins was the early Super Sportsman leader. Haskins had nearly spun on lap3 and Wade Watson became the new leader. Haskin brought the second yellow with seven laps complete. Watson, Joe Buccola Jr. and Dan Nocero Jr. were the restart leaders. A three car incident on the back stretch immediately after the restart collected Allen Haskins, Ron Burgun and Ben Eckstrom. Buccola charged by Watson on the restart to lead lap eight. Except for two leaders the field quickly spread out over the entire speedway. Watson running high could not catch Watson. With thirteen of the fifteen laps complete Clint Brady hit the turn one concrete for caution four. Buccola held off Watson over the final two circuits for his second trip to victory lane in 2011.

M.A.C. Truck Parts and Chadís Ring and Pinion Outlaw Cadet Special was led to the green by Steve Moynihan and Chad Carlson. Paul Norman Jr. and Chad Schauers were on row two and Kelly Frederes and Tyler Green were in row three. Carlson led Moynihan by half a car length after the first circuit with Norman third and Frederes fourth. A lap three spin by Bob Rouche and John Cline Jr. brought out the first caution of the event. Carlson remained the leader with Norman and Moynihan side by side for second. On lap five Moynihan slipped coming out of turn two allowing Norman into second and Frederes into third. Cline continued to have problems spinning with nine laps down causing caution two. Just one lap later Cline, Rouche and Stan Davis Jr. caused caution three. Ryan Scott and Jake Finnerty were the next racers involved in a caution just before the half way mark. The field was strung out single file chasing Carlson. Carlson won by several car lengths his first of the season.

Bryan Howland and Scott Kreutter were on the front row of the Valone Ford Patriot Sprint Group A-Main. Howland was the first to turn one with Dain Naida second and Kreutter third. Jared Zimbardi was fourth and Kyle Moffit fifth. The race remained green and Howland caught the rear of the field on lap eight. A spin by Moffit collected second place running Naida for the first caution of the event with ten of the twenty-five laps complete. Howland had problems on the restart and Kreutter became the new leader. Howland slowed on the next lap bringing out the second caution. Zimbardi was second. After a brief visit to the pits Howland returned just before the restart. Howland slowed again two laps later for caution three ending his racing night. A lap 17 incident caused by a spin by Jim Porter collected Dave Wickham. Zimbardi was the new leader for the restart with Kreutter second. Moffitís trouble continued with a spin in turn four with six laps remaining. Zimbardi quickly built a d15 car length lead over the field as the laps wound down. Zimbardi easily won the event his first win at Stateline.

It took two attempts to get the Super Late Model feature under green and Andy Boozel was the leader with Dave Scott second, Bump Hedman third, John Lobb fourth and Greg Oakes fifth. Last weekís winner Dutch Davies joined John Lobb and Oakes to contend for fourth spot with six laps complete. Davies came out on top of the battle on lap nine with Oakes running fifth. Rod Maloy spun with ten laps down for the second yellow. Boozel, Scott, Hedman, Davies and Oakes were the leaders. One lap later Scott Gurdak spun for caution three. Chad Valone was the next to have problems with a spin in turn three. Boozel, Scott, Hedman, Davies and John Lobb were out in front for the restart. Scott moved up to the top of the speedway looking the traction to pass the low running Boozel and Hedman was fighting with Davies for third. On lap 18 Scott moved back to the bottom with Boozel 20 car lengths ahead. Randy Lobb slowed and Darrell Bossard spun to avoid him for caution five. Boozel continued to hold off Scott as the laps wound down , With two laps remaining Boozel led by eight car lengths and held that advantage on the finial circuit getting his first career win in a Super Late at Stateline.

Rich Michael Jr. and Randy Hall made up the front row the E-Mod main and Michael took the lead at the start. Brent Rhebergen took just thee laps to charge to the lead. One lap later the first yellow of the event occurred. Rhebergen, Michael, Hall, Greg Johnson and John Boyd led. Boyd moved up a spot as Johnson fell to seventh, Scot Gurdak was fifth. A three car tangle with 11 laps complete collected Jaben Hill, Cale Crocker and Ron Seeley. A seven car pile up with twelve laps down brought out the red flag as turn one was completely blocked. John Kelsey, Mike Eschrich, Seeley, Chuck Frye and Cale Crocket were some of the cars involved. Only 16 of the original 24 were able to restart the event. Rhebergen made it look easy for his first of the season.

Open night Crate Late winner Dennis Lunger Jr. and Ed Carley were on the front row of their feature. A spin on the start by Garret Stephen caused a complete restart of the event. Lunger led Carley at the end of lap one with Matt Cobb third and Justin Tatlow fourth. Stephen and Bob Dorman caused caution two with three laps complete. A four care incident ended the race for Dorman and Stephen. Four laps after the four car incident rookie Brian Haggerty lost the handle in turn four. Chad Silleman left he speedway on lap twelve with a smoking race car. The top three remained the same with Kyle Scott up to fourth and Jr. Peters fifth. No one was up to challenging Lunger as he grabbed his second win of the season.

Spectator point leader Dennis Asel was collected in a three car incident on the first lap of the Spectator feature. Steve Keith and Jason Covey were on the front row of the 26 car field. Keith nearly spun on lap two losing several spots and second in points Mike Moon suffered a flat for the second caution. Just one lap later Kyle Weilacher and Josh Crull tangled for caution three. Covey, Damon Lewis, Sam Courson and Cody Bless led. The yellow followed the green because Doug Harvey stopped in the entrance to turn three and the ensuing restart ended with Aaron Dascomb and Asel stopped in turn one. Another multi car incident occurred with seven laps complete. Yellow eight was after lap nine. Then yellow nine before the next lap could be completed. Then two laps later the tenth. Lewis took the lead from Covey on the lap eleven restart then yellow eleven happened occurred and officials ended the event awarding Lewis the win.
