Saturday May 19th, 2012 Busti, NY: Fifty-five
E-Mods were on hand Saturday night for the UEMS Quincy Turner Memorial sponsored
by M.A.C. Truck Parts and Chad’s Ring and Pinion.
Dan Nocero Jr. came from eighth to win a shortened
Super Sportsman feature for his third in a row.
2011 Super Late Champ Dutch Davies made it look easy
leading every lap of the Super Late feature surviving a three lap dash for the
win.
Dave Hess Jr. successfully defended his title winning
UEMS event has he had in 2011. Hess took control with ten laps remaining passing
early leader Carl McKinney on lap fifteen.
Chad Schauers won in a photo finish for Limited Late
win fending off a determined Ryan Scott for the win.
In a green to checkers run Max Blair notched his
second win of the season in the Crate Late Model feature.
Chris Withers made it three in a row in the Street
Stock division continuing his perfect season.
Chad
Bender notched the Super Challenger win his first making it three different
winners this season in this division.
The
initial start of the Super Sportsman event say Wade Watson and Allen Haskins
spin for the first yellow before the first lap was complete. Ben Burgess Jr.
from his fourth starting spot led the first circuit followed by a spin by pole
starter Clint Haskins for yellow number two. Watson’s bad luck continued with a
spin on the restart collecting Haskins for yellow three. One lap was completed
then Allen Yarbrough spun for yellow four. Burgess nearly spun on the restart
and Jake Eller became the new leader with five laps complete. Point leader Dan
Nocero Jr. was hanging on Eller’s bumper when yellow five happened ending the
race night for Allen Haskins. One lap later Watson spun ending his night. At the
crossed flags Eller led Nocero by a car length with Burgess third and Tim Card
fourth. Yarbrough and Ron Burgun tangled with nine completed laps sending
Yarbrough to the pits. On the start Card, Jim Kibbe and Clint Haskins tangled
for caution eight. Jake Eller was judged jumping the start and the race was
finished with Nocero the winner.
John
Volpe ended up facing the wrong direction on the initial start of the Super Late
Model feature as last year’s champ Dutch Davies led with Scott Gurdak along
side. Jordan Eck spun his Dad at the end of the first lap for caution two.
Davies, Gurdak, Dick Barton, Randy Lobb and Darrell Bossard were the leaders.
Lobb pressed the inside on the start locking fenders with Gurdak for yellow
three sending both to the rear of the field for the restart. Doug Eck collected
Rich Gardner and Jordan Eck for yellow four on the restart. The race finally
settled down after the fourth caution and Davies began to build a lead over
Bossard and Barton in second and third. Greg Oakes passed Barton with six laps
down for the number three spot as Davies was out in front by nearly a full
straight away lead. Oakes caught Bossard with eleven laps complete but struggled
to get by while Davies cruised nearly a half a lap ahead. With nine laps
remaining Davies caught the tail end of the field but still continued to build
his lead. With three laps remaining Lobb spun high in turn three setting up a
three lap dash for the win and allowing Bossard and Oakes to close with Davies.
Davies ran the final three unchallenged as neither Oakes or Bossard could mount
a challenge.
Gary
Eicher and Ron Seeley made up the front row for the UEMS Quincy Turner Memorial.
The first lap ended with Alex Froman and Greg Johnson stopped between turns
three and four. Carl McKinney went from third to first on the restart then one
lap later four cars tangles including, Dave Shagla, UEMS point leader Greg
Johnson, Kirk Bradley and Shane Crotty. McKinney remained the leader and Steve
Dixon moved up alongside Eicher for third and Dave Hess Jr. in fourth from his
tenth starting spot. Hess continued to move forward taking second from Seeley
with ten laps completed. Hess caught McKinney on lap fourteen and nearly beat
McKinney to the line then made it stick one lap latter. Dan Davies was in third
with Dixon fourth, Seeley fifth and Randy Hall sixth. Davies took second from
Kinney on lap twenty just before Johnson and Brian Douglas causing caution
three. Johnson and Douglas continued the altercation after the caution which
ended with both race cars hooked together and both drivers disqualified. Davies
charge ended after the restart with obvious right rear wheel problems. Hess
easily out distanced the field over the final four laps for the win successfully
defending his win in the event last year.
Chad
Schauers sat on the pole and led the first lap of the Limited Late feature with
Chris Ottaway in second and Jake Finnerty third. Ryan Scott pushed Finnerty back
to fourth with eight laps complete setting his sights on Ottaway. The first
yellow occurred for a broken John Cline Jr. with nine completed laps. Finnerty
nearly spun in lap ten losing several spots as Steve Kania settled in to fourth.
Ottaway move up to try Schauers on the outside but lost his spot Scott. Scott
tried tucking under Schauers and with two to go nearly made the pass. Kania
tested Scott on the next circuit then fell back and on the final lap Scott moved
under Schauers crossing the start finish line side by side. Schauers got the
scorers nod for his first win.
Max
Blair sat on pole and won the charge into one for the Crate Late Model feature
lead. The first yellow flew for a slow car on lap three. Damien Bidwell was
second followed by Kyle Scott and Brad Mesler. A four car incident involved John
Lacki, Garrett Mott, Rob Bates and Justin Tatlow slowed the event with two laps
down. Three more laps were complete then the third yellow appeared this time for
Skip Jackson. Dereck Frank caused the fourth yellow one lap later. At the half
way point Blair was out in front nearly a straight away. Lap cars temporarily
slowed Blair with six laps remaining. With four laps to go Paul Himes stopped
facing the wrong direction in turn one for caution five. Blair notched his
second victory of the season.
Lance
Palmer failed to negotiate turn one on the initial start of the Street Stock
feature. On the restart Guy Adams, Kyle Weilacher, Todd Bacon and Jeff Keith
piled up in turn one for the second caution. Pat Fielding, Chris Withers, Gary
Fisher and Jason Covey were the race leaders. Withers passed Fielding on the
high side on lap four just before the yellow flew for a slow car in turn four.
Withers, Fisher, Fielding and Covey were the restart leaders. Early leader
Fielding was pushed in to the infield by Covey for caution four and Covey was
sent to the rear for the restart. James Britt caused caution five one lap later.
The race stayed green until lap twelve when a spin by Bacon caused caution six
ending his race night. Withers continued his perfect season with his third win
in a row.
