September 1st, 2012 - Stateline Speedway Fun Fest Ends with Dave Scott Sweeping the Super Late Models
and Dave Hess Jr. Sweeping the E-Mods

By Glenn Slocum

Saturday September 1st, 2012 Busti, NY: The UEMS E-Mods, Limited Late Models and Street Stocks joined the Super Late Models and Crate Late Models for the final night of Fun Fest at the big track. Thirty E-Mods attempted to make the 24 car starting field for $1,000 winnerís share in the Cargo Auto Parts and Roberts Trucking sponsored event. Mike Kinney, Kyle Bedell, John Boyd and John Woodward Jr. were the final four qualifiers. Like the first night of the Fun Fest Dave Hess Jr. proved why he is one of the best E-Mod drivers in the country with a lap 16 pass of another very good driver Randy Hall then winning the event by several car lengths.

It looked like a repeat of Friday night as Dave Scott started on the pole of the Super Late Model feature and led every one of the thirty laps collecting his second $3,000 win of the weekend. Dave Hess Jr. set fast time and finished fifth.

The Limited Late race was just several dashes between cautions where 2012 Champ Steve Kania took control early in the event for his sixth win.

2012 Crate Late Model Champion Damien Bidwell, a no show on Friday night, started on the pole for a green to checkers run in the Crate Late feature. The win was not easy as veteran Chad Ruhlman pressed the young champion at every opportunity. Max Blair Friday nights winner finished fifth.

Nick Mohawk and Paul Nelson were on the front row for the last Street Stock feature of the season. Kevin Hill and Ken Lamp Jr. made up row two and Kyle Weilacher and Bobby Vogt Jr. were in row three. Nelson claimed the top spot on lap one with Lamp second and Mohawk third. Kyle Reinwald was the first to have problems with 2 laps complete. 2012 Point Champ Chris Withers took third on the restart then two laps later second just before yellow two caused by Jim Fetzner. On lap seven Withers took the lead then the Kevin Hill and Brian Crandall tangled for yellow number three. Just one more lap ran before the next yellow flew this time for Bill Best. Dale McDonald Jr. spun on the restart for yellow five. Withers controlled the remaining laps for his tenth win in fourteen starts.

Point Champ Damien Bidwell was on the pole for the Crate Late Model feature with Chad Ruhlman alongside. The yellow appeared before the first lap was complete with Mark Thrasher and Bob Craig tangled up in turn one. Bidwell led Ruhlman by a car length at the end of the first lap with Bobby Rohrer third and Ward Schell fourth. At the end of ten laps the top three remained the same with most of the field single file behind Bidwell. A lap thirteen caution when AJ MacQuarrie spun in turn one. Bidwell lost his lead as the field lined up double file behind him. Ruhlman tried to get under Bidwell but could not complete the pass on the restart lap then Bidwell began to rebuild his lead. Skip Jackson, Dennis Lunger and Thrasher caused yellow three. Bidwell, Ruhlman, Rohrer, Schell and Max Blair were the top five for the restart. Three laps remained and Bidwell led them all to finish his championship season with a win and a $1500 payday.

Dick Barton and Dave Scott were followed by Jason Dupont and Boom Briggs made up the first two rows for the Super Late Model feature and it was Scott who led a the end of one with Barton second followed by Dupont and Darrell Bossard. At the end of five laps Scott was running away from Barton and Dupont was a distant third. Scott was into lap traffic on lap nine. Barton lost second to Dupont then came back to reclaim the spot on lap sixteen. Bossard passed Barton for second two laps later then lost the handle collecting Barton and Rich Gardner for the yellow. Dupont took over second with Briggs third, 2012 Champ Dutch Davies fourth, Robbie Blair fifth and Dave Hess Jr. sixth. Thirteen laps remained. As lap eighteen ended Chris Hackett and Bump Hedman caused caution two. Ward Schell spun on the restart for caution three. Two laps were complete when Schell spun again for caution four. With ten to go Scott led Dupont by ten car lengths with Briggs five car lengths back of Dupont. Dave Hess Jr. was fifth and Blair sixth. John Lacki slowed to a stop with a front suspension problem causing the fifth caution and leaving one more lap to complete the event. The top five remained the same. Scott cruised through the final lap sweeping the Fun Fest Super Late Model events.

The initial start of the Limited Late feature ended in yellow causing a complete restart. The restart saw lap one completed before the yellow flew again this time for Dustin Eckman then on that restart Steve Keith caused caution three. John Cline was the leader with Tyler Green second and 2012 Champ Steve Kania third. Once again the yellow flew during the restart before lap two could be completed. Kania broke away from the pack as the racers finally finished lap two. The race was slowed once again on lap six, Chevy Sweet was the culprit. Eckman spun Mike Moon for caution six with nine laps down. One lap later Mike Lozowski spun for caution seven. Twelve of the 28 starters remained. Tommy Fox was the next to have problems for caution eight with eleven laps down. Throughout all of the cautions Kania remained leader with Green second. Ryan Scott was third with Eckman fourth and Jake Finnerty fifth. As the leader was coming to the checkers Lozowski spun in turn four. Kania easily won his sixth of the season.

Randy Hall led the first lap form the pole with Dave Hess Jr. second and Dave Scott third. Veteran Super Late driver Ron Davies was fourth. Dan Davies and Dave Shagla brought out the first caution on lap five. Hall led the next lap then Justin Carlson spun for caution two. A seven car incident collected Kyle Bedell, Chad Carlson, Mike McGee, Mike Eschrich, Vic Vena, John Woodward Jr. and Leonard Enos were all involved. Shane Crotty passed Ron Davies for fourth right after the restart and Hess and Scott were running side by side for second. Hall was the leader but could not shake Hess, Scott or Crotty. Hess made his move on lap sixteen passing Hall on the outside something everyone was struggling to do. Debris on the front stretch allowed the field to close with the leaders for the final eight laps. Hess, Hall, Scott, Crotty and Butch Southwell were the restart leaders. Hess and Hall were by themselves after the restart as Scott had his hands full with Crotty. With two laps remaining the race was now single file with Hess out in front by several car lengths. Hess took the checkers ending the 2012 season at Stateline and sweeping the Fun Fest E-Mod events.
