Rich Gardner Wins Sysco Foods Super Late Model Feature at Stateline Speedway

sponsored the events at Stateline Speedway. Super Late Model point leader Dick
Barton barrel rolled his race car on the back stretch in the third qualifying
heat. Barton was okay after the incident and then asked if he could borrow a car
to finish the heat. Barton was not allowed to continue the heat but borrowed
John Lobb’s 28J for the feature event. Rich Gardner won his second of the
season in the Super Late Model feature which ran with only one caution. Glenn
Slaney dominated the Spectator feature leading every lap for his sixth win. Rich
Gardner defeated Rod Maloy in the Budweiser Super Late Model King of the Hill
match race. Tom Hagberg won a caution strewn E-Mod feature for his first of the
season. Andy Knight won his first Outlaw Cadet feature of the season. Mike
Kosinski strengthened his point lead in the Budweiser Super Sportsman with his
second win of the season. Stephanie Devereaux held off a charging Stephanie
Hilyer to win the Lady Challenger Championship race for her second win of the
season. Alex Froman led the final seven laps of the first Super Challenger
Championship race and Brandon Pierce won the second.
Paul Briggs and Rich Gardner were on the front row of
the Super Late Model feature with Steve Halpainy and John Lacki in row two.
Point leader Dick Barton started in sixteenth in John Lobb’s car. Briggs led
into one but Gardner led out of two and at the end of the first circuit. Briggs,
Halpainy, Bump Hedman and Lacki made up the rest of the top five. With ten laps
complete Gardner led by fifteen car lengths over Briggs who had a ten car
advantage over Halpainy and Hedman. Chad Valone put Lacki back to sixth just
before the caution flew for John Volpe in turn four. Eleven laps were complete
and the top ten were Gardner, Briggs, Halpainy, Hedman, Valone, Lacki, Bruce
Hordusky, Darrell Bossard, Andy Boozel and Ted Kosinski. Gardner continued to
control the event after the restart quickly rebuilding his previous lead.
Gardner finished on a rail with nearly a straight away lead over Briggs for his
second win of the season.
Doug Moore and Glenn Slaney were on the front row for
the Spectator feature. Jermin Strickland spun at the end of the first lap
tagging Jason Genco and Dave McClenahan for the first yellow as Slaney led.
Moore was second followed by Shayne Erhard, Wade Watson and Buzz Phearsdorf.
Rich Thompson was fifth on lap three as Slaney began to pull away from the rest
of the field. Erhard spun to a stop in turn two for the second caution with four
laps complete. Slaney, Moore, Watson and Bill Reeves were the restart leaders.
Two laps later the yellow reappeared for Jaime Brown and Gary Fisher. Slaney,
Watson, Dave Johnson, Reeves and John Galati were the top five. Ryan Seekings
spun collecting John Britt for the next yellow right after the restart. Johnson
started smoking on lap nine and retired for the event. Slaney led by several car
lengths with five laps remaining. Galati, Genco and Reeves passed Watson then
the yellow flew for Lee Rider in turn two. Slaney easily led the final laps for
his sixth win.
Kevin Decker led the first lap of the E-Mod feature
with Dustin Eckman and Chad Ramsey second and third. The yellow flew for Nathan
Short and Quincy Turner with four laps complete. Decker, Eckman, Ramsey, Tom
Hagberg and Ron Seeley were the restart leaders. Turner went into the pits and
Short joined the tail end of the field. Eckman led lap five with Decker second.
Seeley nearly spun losing several spots on lap seven and Decker use the outside
to pass Eckman for the lead. Short, Jake Halpainy, Jason Wile, Chuck Frye and
Bret Van Guilder tangled for the second yellow with eight laps complete. Decker
led lap nine then Frye and Fardink brought out the third yellow. Decker, Eckman,
Ramsey, Hagberg and Justine Carlson were the leaders. The yellow flew again with
ten laps complete for Troy Carr and J.R. Nocero. Decker drove into the pits
during the yellow putting Eckman out front followed by Hagberg, Ramsey, Carlson
and Greg Johnson. Hagberg moved up to challenge Eckman after the restart and one
lap later the yellow flew again. Eckman lost two spot on the restart lap letting
Hagberg and Carlson by then the yellow reappeared for Wile and Jason Illig. Carr
and Halpainy caused another caution with five laps remaining. Wayne Anderson
slowed with a flat for the final yellow with three laps remaining. Hagberg
managed to out run Carlson to the checkers for his first win of the season.
Troy Dorman took the early lead in the Outlaw Cadet
feature with Andy Knight second and Bobby Rohrer Sr. third. Cliff Lanphere and
Phil Knight caused the first caution with two laps complete. Nathan Short passed
Rohrer on lap five for third then began to challenge Andy Knight for second.
Andy Knight passed Dorman for the lead then Dorman and Shot nearly spun allowing
Andy Knight to quickly build a sizeable lead. Chris Bowman spun in two with five
laps remaining for the second caution. Andy Knight pulled away and Dorman,
Rohrer, Mike Moore and Short fought for second. Rohrer won the battle then lost
the spot to Moore as the yellow flew for Bowman again with one lap remaining.
Andy Knight, Moore, Short, Rohrer and Phil Knight were the restart leaders. Andy
Knight won the dash to the finish for his first win of the season.
Chris Kuschel led the first lap of the Budweiser Super
Sportsman feature followed closely by Bob Van Arsdale, Rusty Briggs and Chad
Carlson. Carlson jumped a wheel with Briggs and lost several spots on lap five
and point leader Mike Kosinski moved up to challenge Kuschel for the lead.
Kosinski and Kuschel swapped the lead on lap nine then Kosinski was able to make
the pass stick on lap ten. As soon as Kosinski was in the clear he began to pull
away from the field. Ben Burgess spun with eleven complete for the first yellow.
The race was for second and Kosinski easily pulled away from the pack winning by
several car lengths for his second win of the season.
Jodee Jordan led the Lady Challengers to the Speedway
for their Championship race and Stephanie Devereaux led the first lap with
Amanda Swanson second and Jordan third. Stephanie Hilyer grabbed third from
Jordan on lap two then seven laps later took second from Swanson. Hilyer was
pressing Devereaux as the white flew but just could not make the pass losing by
half a car length at the line to Devereaux. It was the second win for Devereaux.
Debris on the speedway brought out the yellow on lap
three of the first Super Challenger Championship race with Casey Burch leading
and Brian Wilson second. One more lap was completed then the yellow flew for Pat
Patterson. Wilson, Burch and Rick Karash were the restart leaders. Alex Froman
came from fifth on the restart to take the lead on lap five. Wilson pulled into
the pits. Froman, Karash and Cale Crocker were the leaders with two laps
remaining. Froman took the checkers in heavy traffic for his second win.
Ron Reichardt led the first lap of the second Super
Challenger Championship race and he yellow flew for car stopped up against the
fence on the front stretch. Paul Nelson became the new leader after the restart
with Brandon Pierce second. Keith Lamb came to a stop on the front stretch with
three laps complete for the second caution. Joe Karash spun to a stop two laps
later for caution three. Pierce took control on the restart with Greg Rockwell
second and point leader Kevin Golden third. Golden grabbed second on the next
circuit then Derrick Dickerson stopped up by the pit entrance for the fourth
yellow with five laps remaining. Pierce remained the leader over the final lap
for his first of the season.
