July 29th, 2006 - Randy Lobb Wins on McDonalds Kid’s Night at Stateline
Speedway
By Glenn Slocum
Busti, NY: McDonalds sponsored Kid’s Bike Night at Stateline Speedway.
Dave Hess Jr. defeated Darrell Bossard to retain his Budweiser Super Late Model
King of the Hill title. Rick Thompson came from seventeenth passing leader Gary
Fisher on lap eleven to win the Spectator Championship Race. Bob Hazzard won his
fourth Budweiser Super Sportsman feature passing Bobbie Rohrer Jr. for the lead
on lap five. Mary Hammond led from lap three to win the Lady Challenger
Championship race. Rick Karash came for sixteenth to win the first Super
Challenger Championship race and Brian Wilson won the second. Randy Lobb passed
Dick Barton on lap eighteen to win his first Super Late Model feature of the
season. Steve Moynihan assumed the lead in the Outlaw Cadet event on lap four
and then survived several cautions for his first win of the season. The track
lights failed just before a thunder storm shortening the E-Mod feature to twelve
laps from twenty giving Nathan Short his second win of the season.
Chad Ruhlman and Randy Lobb brought the Super Late Models our for their
feature event. Ruhlman grabbed the lead with Dick Barton second from his fourth
starting spot. John Lacki brought out the first caution with three laps in.
Ruhlman, Barton, Randy Lobb, Steve Halpainy and Chad Valone were the top five
for the restart. Andy Boozel and rookie Justin Carlson brought out the second
yellow with four complete and Dave Hess Jr. was fifth with Valone back to sixth.
The yellow followed the green with Dave Lyon, John Volpe and Boom Briggs
involved. On the next restart Paul Briggs, Merle Terry, Miles Stitzinger and
Darrell Bossard brought out the yellow. After three attempts lap five was
finally completed with Barton leading followed by Lobb, Ruhlman, Hess and
Valone. Hess used the bottom to move by Ruhlman on lap ten then on lap eleven
flew for Paul Briggs, Mike Knight and Boom Briggs in turn two. Action prior to
the start involving Paul Briggs, Boom Briggs and Volpe caused yellow number six.
Barton seemed to easily out run Lobb and Hess on the restart then Lobb began to
reel in Barton taking the lead at the line on lap eighteen. Volpe brought out
the yellow with six laps to go. Lobb, Barton, Hess, Valone and Ruhlman were the
top five with Ron Davies just out of the top five in sixth. One more lap was
completed then Ryan Scott brought out the eighth yellow. Davies moved to fourth
after the restart as Hess and Barton fought for the second spot. Hess grabbed
second from Barton with two to go and Davies challenged Barton but could not
make the pass as Lobb took the checkers followed by Hess, Barton and Davies.
Doug Moore and Jamie Brown were on the front row for the Spectator
Championship Race. Stan Davis and John Britt were in row two. Doug Moore led lap
one. Brown made hard contact with the back stretch concrete on lap three for the
first caution of the race. Stan Davis led lap three then fell to second one lap
later as Moore resumed the point. Moore did not led the next lap as Gary Fisher
took control with Jason Genco second and Dave Johnson third. Rich Thompson moved
into the top three on lap eight putting Johnson back to fourth. Thompson passed
Genco coming out of turn two on lap eleven then caught and passed Fisher in turn
four to lead the event. Genco was able to get around Fisher also. Wade Watson
brought out the yellow with sixteen laps complete allowing the field to close up
behind Genco and Thompson. Just one more lap was complete when the yellow flew
for Buzz Phearsdorf, Louis Kinney, John Mease and Britt. Thompson held on to the
lead over the final three laps for his fourth of the season.
Bobby Rohrer Jr. stated in second and led the first lap of the Budweiser
Super Sportsman feature. Bob Hazzard used the outside to pass Rohrer on lap
five. John Boardman moved into second on lap eight followed by Rusty Briggs. The
yellow flew for Rohrer with twelve laps complete. Hazzard took the two to go
signal from Starter Mark Matthews then the yellow flew for Boardman who had
stopped high in turn four. The two lap dash to the finish ended on the first lap
for Bryan Ester spun in turn four. Hazzard one the one lap dash for his fourth
win of the season.
Kayla Riefstahl led the first two laps of the Lady Challenger Championship
race then gave way to Mary Hammond on lap three. Hammond led the remainder of
the event for her third win.
The green flew then the yellow as three cars nosed into the front stretch
wall on the start of the first Super Challenger Championship Race. Chris
Knisley, Joe Buccola, Keith Lamb and Pat Patterson were the cars involved. The
second start worked like the first with yellow reappearing immediately after the
green. After two attempts the first lap was completed but the yellow flew for
Brian Swift stopped on the back stretch. Sam Courson led the restart with Mike
Kosinski second. Rick Karash led lap three as Courson slipped to third and Casey
Burch was second. Kurt Roberts brought out the next yellow with five laps
complete. Burch slowed on the final lap allowing Courson and Mike Kosinski by.
Karash won the event for his first of the season.
Brian Wilson led the first lap of the second Super Challenger Championship
race. A loose wheel brought out the yellow with three laps complete. Jason Black
spun then was struck head on by Jeff Strickland which brought out the second
yellow with five laps complete. Wilson ran the remainder of the event
unchallenged for his third win.
Seventeen Outlaw Cadets led by Leonard Enos and Lester Shoff took Matthews
green flag for the start of their feature event. Enos lost the handle in turn
four of the first lap bringing out the early caution. Kelly Frederes and Brian
Crandall were collected in the incident. Shoff continued to lead after the
restart then with three laps complete Enos, Crandall and Eugene Bevil tangled in
turn two for the second yellow. Shoff had mechanical problems on the restart for
yellow three and went into the pits. Steve Moynihan became the new leader with
Andy Knight second and Mike Moore third. Moynihan led lap four but Knight spun
coming out of four collecting Moore and bringing out the fourth yellow.
Moynihan, Bobby Rohrer, Troy Dorman, Paul Norman and John Cline were the restart
leaders. Bevil and Paul Himes caused the next yellow with five laps complete.
Nathan Short moved into the top five after the restart. Short passed Cline on
lap eight then Dorman on lap nine for third. Short continued his charge passing
Rohrer for second on lap eleven. Rohrer faded as Moynihan took the white with
Short nearly a straight away behind. Moynihan easily won the event with point
leader Mike Moore third and Nathan Short second.
Twenty-four E-Mods reported to the speedway for their twenty lap feature
event. A lap one incident collected Chad Silleman, Jason Wile and Jake Halpainy.
The lap was counted with Dennis Lunger listed as the leader followed by Ron
Seeley, Brian Fardink, Dustin Eckman and Greg Johnson. Seeley came out on top
after the restart and one more lap was completed before the yellow flew for Chad
Ramsey in turn two and Brett Van Guilder in turn three. Quincy Turner spun on
the restart for the third yellow. Nathan Short charged from fourth to second on
the restart then took the lead from Seeley on lap four. Lunger raced under
Seeley for two laps before making the pass for second. Jeff Van Arsdale stopped
high in turn one for the fourth yellow with eight laps in the book. As the field
was being realigned the track lights shutdown and the speedway went dark.
Shortly after the lights went out the rain started and the race was shortened to
twelve laps. Short was awarded the win his second of the season.
