October 7th, 2006 - John Boyd Wins Stateline Auto Parts Chautauqua Challenge at
Stateline Speedway

Busti, NY: Warm weather and clear blue skies welcomed race fans for the
Chautauqua Challenge at Stateline Speedway. 2006 Spectator Champion Rick
Thompson won the King of the Hill qualifying event and pulled pill number nine
inverting the top nine for the main event. John Boyd started on the pole and
lead early losing the lead to John Galati then regained the lead with six laps
remaining for his first Stateline win and the Chautauqua Challenge title.
Brandon Pierce passed Luke Rutsky as Rutsky tangled with a lap car with two laps
remaining in the Super Challenger feature event for the win. Jim Frank won the
Iron Man Enduro finishing several laps ahead of the number two car.
John Boyd led the first circuit of the thirty lap Challenge event with Wade
Watson second and Brian Bush third. Merle Burlingham and Gary Bedow brought out
the first yellow with three laps complete and on the restart eight cars tangled
completely blocking the track for the second yellow of the event. Boyd led lap
four and the yellow flew for Watson who had stopped high in turn three. Watson
was pushed into the pits during the caution. Boyd led lap five with Rick
Thompson in second. Gary Bedow Jr. spun at the end of lap five for the fourth
yellow. Another multi-car spin brought out the fifth yellow on the restart. Pete
Volpe, Doug Moore, John Kelsey, Burlingham and Dave Johnson were all involved.
Bill Reeves spun into the infield after contact with Aron Dascomb and John
Galati for yellow number six with six laps compete. Boyd, Rick Thompson and Bush
were the restart leaders. Two more laps went into the books and the yellow flew
for a slowing Bedow on the front straight. Dascomb caused caution seven with ten
laps complete. Mark Thompson and Brian Bush tangled with twelve laps complete
for caution eight. Boyd, Rick Thompson and Ryan Seekings were the leaders for
the restart. Rick Thompson slowed on the next circuit and pulled into the pits
as the yellow flew again. Fourteen of the original cars remained for the restart
with Boyd leading followed by Galati and Stan Davis Jr. Davis spun into the
infield on the restart but the green stayed out and Dascomb move to third behind
Boyd and Galati. Mark Thompson grabbed third from Dascomb on lap seventeen and
two laps later Jamie Brown spun for caution number ten with ten laps remaining.
Galati decided it was time to lead and moved under Boyd on the restart and led
lap twenty one. John Mease spun in turn four for caution eleven with twenty-two
laps complete. Galati, Dascomb and Boyd were the top three for the restart.
Dascomb went into turn three a little too hard on the restart and spun to stop
losing his number two spot to Boyd and Mark Thompson moved up to third. Another
multi-car spin caused caution twelve and seven laps remained. Galati slipped up
the speedway on the restart and Boyd used the opening to retake the lead with
six laps remaining. Moore stalled trying to pull into the pits for caution
thirteen with four laps remaining. Ten cars remained for the final four laps.
Boyd was able to pull away from Galati on the restart and ran the final laps
unchallenged for his first Stateline Speedway win.
Curt Hansen grabbed the early lead in the fifteen lap Super Challenger
feature event. Anthony Marotto came to a stop on the front stretch with a broken
right front ball joint and as the yellow flew Rick Reichardt could not avoid the
stalled Marotto making heavy contact under the starters stand. Steve Keith led
lap five as Hansen fell back to third and Luke Rutsky was second. Keith spun
giving Rutsky the lead at the half way point. Rutsky tangled with a lap car and
Brandon Pierce took the lead with two laps remaining. Pierce held on for the
win.
