September 9th, 2006 - Mike Moore Wins American Tire/Seamen’s Auto Wrecking
Outlaw Cadet Championship Race
Doug Eck Super Late Model Winner
At Stateline Speedway
By Glenn Slocum
Busti, NY: Seamen’s Auto Wrecking and American Tire sponsored Daytona
Night at Stateline Speedway featuring an Outlaw Cadet Championship Race and the
Super Late Model division removed there roofs to run topless for the evening.
The Outlaw Cadet Championship race was won by Mike Moore who used a lap car on
the final lap to win his fifth of the year and a trip to the beach. Doug Eck led
from green to checkers to win the Super Late Model feature. Rick Thompson out
dueled Glenn Slaney in the final laps of the Spectator feature to win his fifth
of the season and became the first driver to get a free trip to Daytona Beach
and $500 spending money. The Outlaw Cadet Championship race was won by Mike
Moore who used a lap car on the final lap to win his fifth of the year and a
trip to the beach. Quincy Turner won the E-Mod feature leading from lap eight of
the twenty lap event. Mike Kosinski won his third Budweiser Super Sportsman
event. Steve Keith Jr. won the first Super Challenger feature and Alex Froman
won the second. Mary Hammond won her fourth in the Lady Challenger feature.
Doug Eck brought the topless Super Late Models onto the track for their
feature event and led the first lap with John Lobb second. Dick Barton was third
with Darrell Bossard fourth. Barton spun in turn two with five laps complete and
the first yellow. Eck resumed control after the restart followed by John Lobb,
Bossard and Bruce Hordusky. Hordusky grabbed third on lap seven pushing Bossard
back to fourth. At the crossed flags Eck had a twenty car length lead over John
Lobb and Hordusky. Hordusky managed to get under John Lobb on lap nineteen to
take the runner up spot and began to run down Eck. Tom Hagberg stopped up
against the fence in turn three for the second caution with twenty laps
complete. Eck, Hordusky, Bossard, Andy Boozel and John Lobb were the leaders for
the restart. Though Hordusky restarted on Eck bumper he could not catch him
finishing two car lengths behind Eck. It was Eck’s fourth win of the season.
Nathan Short led the first lap of the Outlaw Cadet Championship race with
Lester Shoff second. Shoff nearly spun on lap two falling back to ninth putting
Mike Moore in second and Bob Vogt Jr. third. Scott Lewis spun in turn two for
the first caution with six laps complete. At the half way point Short and Moore
led Vogt by a straight away. With five to go the leaders led by nearly a half a
lap. Vogt spun into the infield losing the third spot with three laps remaining.
Moore used a lap car to pass Short on the final lap for his fifth of the season
and a trip to Daytona.
Bryon Johnson and John Kelsey were on the front row for the Spectator feature
event with Stan Davis and Buzz Phearsdorf in row two. Kelsey led the first two
laps when the yellow flew for John Boyd and Gary Bedow in turn one. Kelsey,
Clarence Dickerson and Davis were the lap three restart leaders. Kelsey remained
the leader after the restart with Aron Dascomb second. Dascomb lost the handle
collecting Jason Genco, and Jermin Strickland for the second yellow with seven
laps complete. Kelsey, Slaney, Rick Thompson, John Britt and John Boyd were the
top five for the restart. Slaney and Thompson immediately made it a three way
battle for the top spot. Slaney drove under Kelsey on ten for the top spot then
two corners later Kelsey spun for the third yellow. Slaney, Thompson, Britt,
Boyd and Dascomb were the leaders. Wade Watson tagged Boyd in turn three
spinning Boyd and bringing out the fourth caution with eleven laps complete. One
lap later Watson and Bedow brought out the fifth yellow. Thompson moved up
alongside Slaney and the two veterans ran side by side for nearly two laps.
Strickland spun to a stop sitting sideways nearly under the flag stand causing
the final caution of the race as the leaders came out of turn four for the
checkers. Thompson was the restart leader having led by a bumper on the white
flag lap setting the stage for a one lap dash to the finish. Slaney tried the
same move on Thompson that Thompson used to gain the top spot but drove in to
turn three too hard, lost control and collected two other cars as Thompson took
the checkers for his fifth win of the season.
Dennis Lunger led J.R. Nocero after the first circuit in the E-Mod
feature. A lap three spin by Gerry Kielar collected several cars and brought out
the first caution with three laps complete. Lunger, Matt Swanson, Nocero, Quincy
Turner and Kevin Decker led at the restart. Swanson beat Lunger into turn four
and led lap four. Nathan Hill brought out the second caution with four laps
complete. The yellow flew right after the green as one car stopped in the pit
entrance and Al Cressley stopped in turn two. The roles were reversed on the
restart as Lunger used the outside to wrest the lead from Swanson. Brian Fardink
brought out caution three with five laps down. Lunger stayed high on the restart
allowing Turner the inside and Turner led lap eight. Lunger lost three spots on
the next lap putting Swanson second, Carl McKinney third and Kevin Decker
fourth. Kielar and Jamie Schnars tangled for a lap fourteen caution. Turner ran
the final six laps unchallenged, leading by several car lengths at the checkers
for his third win of the season.
John Boardman and Jake Eller tangled on the initial start of the Budweiser
Super Sportsman feature bringing out the yellow before a lap was complete. Ben
Burgess was the leader after one lap with Bob Van Arsdale second and Steve Kania
third. Van Arsdale slipped and rookie Kania took advantage to gain the second
spot on lap six. One lap later Chris Kuschel and Eller brought out the yellow.
Point lead Mike Kosinski moved into the fray after the restart passing both
Burgess and Kania for the top spot. Kania passed Burgess one lap later to regain
second and Bob Hazzard moved up to challenge Kania. Rusty Briggs moved up to
pass Hazzard for third but could not catch Kania and Kosinski. Kosinski won the
race for his third win.
Cale Crocker led lap one of the first Super Challenger feature. Crocker gave
way to Rod Birt on lap three just before the second yellow fro Don Weilacher.
Weilacher was injured in the incident. Crocker regained the lead on the restart.
Steve Keith pushed Crocker up the speedway to take the top spot just before the
white flag. Keith won for his second of the season.
Jay Seekings started on the pole of the second Super Challenger feature and
led the first lap. The yellow flew for Adam Price on lap four. Seekings, Chris
Withers and Kyle Jackson made it three wide for the lead after the restart. One
lap later Seekings spun on the backstretch for the second yellow with four laps
complete. Jackson was the new leader with Withers second and Alex Froman third.
Froman made it three wide again for the lead on lap six passing both Withers and
Jackson. One lap remained when the final yellow flew for several cars stopped in
turn one. Froman held on for the win his fifth of the year.
Mary Hammond jumped into the lead at the start of the Lady Challenger
feature. Michelle Swabik was second on lap three followed by Stephanie Hilyer
and Jennifer Weagraff. Hammond remained the leader winning her fourth of the
year.
