August 18th, 2007 - Quincy Turner Budweiser E-Mod King of the Hill
Dick Barton Wins Super Late Model Feature
at Stateline Speedway

By Glenn Slocum

Busti, NY: A cool cloudy night saw excellent racing at Stateline Speedway and the Budweiser sponsored E-Mod King of the Hill. Early in the event a light rain started and fell off and on through the remainder of the evening. There were thirty-four E-Mods on hand for the King of the Hill. Quincy Turner and Jason Genco were the final pair. Genco had the advantage after the first circuit but Turner fought back to make the winning pass on lap two of the three lap race. Dick Barton led from the start to win his seventy-first Super Late Model feature. Barton survived several cautions holding off Doug Eck and Chris Hackett for the win. Mike Moore extended his Outlaw Cadet point lead winning his eighth feature of the season. Scott Gurdak charged from thirteenth to first for his second E-Mod win of the season. Gary Fisher passed a slowing Carl Macy to win his first Spectator feature. Young Steve Kania drove to his first Super Sportsman victory surviving a last lap caution for the win. Stephanie Hilyer won her fourth Lady Challenger feature. Jamie Hebner won the first Super Challenger feature and Bill Best won the second.

Dick Barton and Ted Kosinski led twenty-seven Super Late Models to the speedway for their feature event. The green fell and Barton won the race to turn one but Randy Shearer did not make the turn and the yellow flew before the first lap could be completed. Barton led by three car lengths at the end of the first lap with Kosinski second. Chris Hackett beat Kosinski out of turn two on lap two for the runner up spot. Two laps later Doug Eck sent Kosinski back another spot. A lap six spin by Doug Ricotta and Joe Watson caused caution number two. Barton, Hackett, Eck, Kosinski and Andy Boozel were the restart leaders. Hackett pushed Barton on the restart then Kirk Bradley and Scott Johnson tangled for yellow three. It was Barton, Hackett, Mike Knight and Kosinski after the lap eight restart. Just one more lap was completed when Ricotta, Ryan Scott and Watson tangled in turn three for yellow number four. Eck was fourth for the restart with point leader Rod Maloy fifth. Barton continued to control the event with Hackett, Knight giving chase. Knight had difficulties negotiating turn three with fourteen laps complete and the fifth yellow. With eight laps remaining Barton held the lead by a car length over Hackett and Eck. With five remaining Eck grabbed second from Hackett then one lap later the sixth yellow flew for Scott in turn two. Barton, Eck, Hackett, John Lobb and Maloy were the leaders. The restart was marred by a spin involving Kosinski, Paul Briggs and Wally Fox. Eck tested Barton again but fell just short as Barton used the high line. With two laps remaining Chad Valone and Merle Terry tangled for yellow number seven. Barton took the white a car length in front of Eck then Eck had his hands full holding off Hackett as Barton took his seventy-first Super Late Model checkered flag.

Rick Thompson led the first lap of the Outlaw Cadet feature. Nathan Short brought out the caution as he limped into the pits on lap three. Mike Moore from his eleventh starting spot was second for the restart and passed Thompson for the lead soon after the green fell. Chet Sheets and Kelly Frederes brought out the second yellow with five complete. It was Moore, Thompson and Glenn Slaney after the restart then a crash by Sheets caused caution three. Slaney passed Thompson for the second spot on lap eight as Moore led by several car lengths. Troy Dorman caused caution four with just five laps remaining. Moore survived a last lap yellow for his eight win of the season.

The first lap of the E-Mod feature was slowed by a spin by Kevin Kohl after contact with Nathan Short. Short and Kohl were both sent to the rear for the complete restart of the event. Quincy Turner the top qualifier led the first circuit with Troy Carr second. A spin by Cale Crocker with three complete caused caution two. Turner, Carr, David Scott and Scott Gurdak led after the restart. Chad Ramsey had problems with six complete for yellow three. Gurdak had charged into the top three pushing Scott back to fourth and Genco fifth. Scott charged into turn three a little too fast after the restart spinning into the infield for caution four with seven laps complete. Turner, Gurdak, Carr, Scott Johnson and Dennis Lunger headed the filed. Gurdak continued his charge passing Turner for the lead on lap eleven. Turner continued to fall back through the field as Gurdak lengthened his lead over Carr. Johnson grabbed second as the white flag flew. Gurdak took the checkers in heavy lap traffic leading Johnson by several car lengths.

Twenty-eight Spectators came to the speedway for their feature event. A spin by Paul Nelson on the first lap caused a complete restart. Aron Dascomb and Byron Johnson were on the front row followed by Carl Marcy and Jamie Brown. Dascomb led Marcy as the yellow flew for Stan Davis Jr. on lap two. Dascomb bobbled in turn two on the restart giving Marcy the lead and Gary Fisher second. The third yellow appeared for Pat Landy with six laps complete. The leader slowed as the yellow flew for Johnson with ten laps complete. Marcy restarted in the rear as Fisher assumed the lead. Dascomb was second followed by Buzz Phearsdorf and Alex Froman. Fisher led the final circuits for his first win of the season.

Bob Van Arsdale took advantage of his pole starting spot and grabbed the early lead in the Super Sportsman feature. Tim Nocero, Bryan Ester and Rusty Briggs tangled with three laps complete for the first yellow. Van Arsdale went up in smoke after the restart putting Buccola in first followed by Steve Kania and Ben Burgess. Several cars spun and all kept going except Bob Hazzard for the third yellow. Buccola spun while leading on lap thirteen giving young Kania the lead. Buccola stopped bringing out the caution with one lap remaining. Kania survived the last lap restart to win his first Super Sportsman feature event.
