August 4th, 2007 - Rod Maloy Wins Smirnoff Super Late Model Special
At Stateline Speedway

By Glenn Slocum

Busti, NY: August racing at Stateline began with the Smirnoff sponsored Super Late Model Special paying $3,000 to the winner. Point leader Rod Maloy used his pole starting position to win the $3,000, extend his Super Late Model point lead and notch his fourth win of the season. Dave McClanahan took the lead on lap five of the Spectator feature and held on to win his second of the season. Glen Slaney held off a charging Mike Moore to win his first Outlaw Cadet feature. Mike Knight upset Chad Valone in the Super Late Model King of the Hill Challenge. Aaron Robinson won his first Super Sportsman feature after taking over the lead on lap three. Nathan Short led from lap two to win his second E-Mod feature of the season. Stephanie Hilyer won her second Lady Challenger feature. Rick Karash won his sixth Super Challenger feature and Steve Keith Jr. won his second.

Point leader Rod Maloy was on the pole for the Super Late Model thirty lap Special. Maloy grabbed the early lead with Andy Kania second followed by Scott Johnson and Bruce Hordusky. A lap four spin by Randy Lobb brought out the yellow. Maloy, Kania, Johnson, Hordusky and Eck were the leaders. Maloy controlled the restart and was able to pull away from the field. Eck cleared Johnson and Kania on lap ten for the second spot and began to chase down Maloy. Hordusky spin into the infield and Rich Gardner left the speedway as the race stayed green on lap fifteen. Maloy caught lap traffic and Eck caught Maloy as the first twenty laps were complete. The second yellow occurred on lap twenty-two for Andy Boozel, Merle Terry and Mike Knight. Maloy, Eck, Johnson, Darrell Bossard and Chris Hackett were the restart leaders. Maloy remained the leader staying in the low groove with Eck trying to use the cushion to catch him. Eck was unable to challenge Maloy giving him his fourth win and extending his point lead.

Marc Luce and Berton Chapel were on the front row of the Spectator feature. Jermin Strickland from his eighth starting spot led the first circuit with Dave McClenahan second and Stan Davis Jr. third. Stickland slowed on lap five turning the lead over to McClenahan. The yellow flew on lap six for Charles Silleman stopped up against the wall in turn three. McClenahan quickly rebuilt his lead after the restart and caught lap traffic on lap nine. With two laps remaining McClenahan led Alex Froman by ten car lengths and maintained that margin through the final laps winning his second feature of the season.

Troy Dorman beat Paul Himes to turn one to lead the first lap of the Outlaw Cadet feature. Glenn Slaney was second with Phil Knight in third. Leonard Enos and Chet Sheets tangled with five laps complete bringing out the first yellow. Slaney used the restart to gain the top spot but from eleventh point leader Mike Moore grabbed the number two spot. Brian Crandall brought out the second yellow with ten laps complete. Slaney, Moore, Dorman, Knight and Kelly Frederes were the restart leaders. Just one lap was completed before the next yellow for Sheets stopped in the exit of turn four. The final caution occurred for Crandall and Knight in turn two with thirteen laps complete. Dorman nearly spun on the final circuit losing several spots and Slaney held off Moore for his first Outlaw Cadet win.

Bryan Ester and Jim Leonard were on the front row for the Super Sportsman feature with Steve Kania and Aaron Robinson in row two. Leonard led the first lap followed closely by Robinson. Robinson passed Leonard on lap three. A spin by Joe Buccola Jr. with six laps complete caused the first caution. Tim Nocero grabbed second from Leonard on lap nine and began to run down Robinson. Bob Van Arsdale spun to a stop on the final lap for the second yellow of the race. Robinson won the one lap dash for his first win of the season.

Jason Genco and Troy Carr led the E-Mods to the speedway and Genco just beat Nathan Short to the line to lead lap one. Genco lost the handle on the second circuit collecting a couple of cars including Greg Johnson the current point leader. Short inherited the lead for the restart with Carr second and Dave Lyon third. Short remained the leader after the restart and the second yellow flew for Genco, Cale Crocker and Josh John with three laps completed. Once more Short took off and after two laps Lyon clearly held the runner up spot as Carr fell into a five car fight for third. Chad Silleman emerged with the third spot followed by Carl McKinney. McKinney passed Silleman on lap twelve as did Scott Gurdak one lap later. Short was in cruise control with Lyon several car lengths back in second. The race stayed green and Short ran unchallenged through the final laps for his second E-Mod win of the season.
