2007 - Chad Ruhlman Wins Budweiser Super Late Model King of the Hill and Super Late Model Feature
At Stateline Speedway
By Glenn Slocum
Busti, NY: Saturday night at Stateline Speedway was headlined by the Budweiser Super Late Model King of the Hill qualifying. Twenty-two match races were run with Chad
Ruhlman defeating Randy Lobb in the final round for the $1,000 prize.
Ruhlman pulled the number one pill indicating no
inversion and placing him on the pole for the feature event. Ruhlman led from the start winning his second of the season.
Nathan Short grabbed the Outlaw Cadet feature lead on lap six and never looked back for this third win of the season. Rusty Briggs used a lap eight restart to grab the lead and
the win in the Super Sportsman class. Quincy Turner relinquished the lead only once in a caution filled E-Mod feature for his first win of the season. Jessica Hallowell won her
first Lady Challenger feature. Casey Burch and Travis Darling were the Super Challenger feature winners.
John Boyd led the final two laps to win his third Spectator feature.
Chad
Ruhlman started on the pole and led the first lap of the Super Late Model feature. Randy Lobb was second followed by Rod Maloy and John Lobb. Maloy fell to fourth on lap three and
one lap latter lost the spot to Chad Valone. Dick Barton was fifth as the Lobb brothers fought for the second spot. Ruhlman was running away with the race and into lap traffic on
the seventh circuit. Valone split the Lobb brothers for third just before the first yellow flew for Andy Kania in turn two. Ruhlman, Randy Lobb, Valone, John Lobb, Maloy and Barton
were the top five. Valone move into second after the restart as Ruhlman started to rebuild his lead. Chris Hackett retired at the half way point with Ruhlman a half a straight away
in front of Valone. Randy Lobb slowed to stop up against the turn three fence for the second caution with sixteen laps complete. Ruhlman, Valone, John Lobb, Maloy, Barton and Scott
Johnson were the top five. Barton passed Maloy for the fourth spot on the restart. Bump Hedman scrapped the fence by the flagman then slid to the inside of the track for the third
yellow. Ruhlman continued to use the high groove and dominate. John Lobb beat Valone into turn one and took over second. A four car pile up involving Paul Briggs, George LaBarbera,
John Volpe and Rob Ledingham caused caution four with four laps remaining. Lobb tested Ruhlman on the restart but could not make the pass stick. Ruhlman won by five car lengths
over Lobb and Valone led Barton by half a car length for third.
Brian
Crandall was on the pole for Outlaw Cadet feature and led the first circuit with Chet Sheets second and Rick Thompson third. Nathan Short joined the top three on lap five sending
Sheets back to fourth. Short continued his charge grabbing the lead from Crandall on lap six. Crandall lost another spot one lap later just before the yellow flew for Sheets in
turn one. Short remained on top after the restart with Thompson second and John Cline third. Short led by half a straight with two to go and as the white flag was in the air Sheets
tangled with Mike Moore for the second yellow of the race to set up a one lap dash for the win. Before the green flew Troy Dorman ran to the Leonard Enos collecting Sheets for the
third caution. Short won the dash for his third win of the season.
Bob Hazzard
started on the outside pole then led the first circuit of the Super Sportsman feature. Pole started Joe Buccola Jr. was second with Rusty Briggs third. Briggs led Buccola by a nose
on lap seven for the second spot just before the yellow flew for Kelly Frederes. Briggs used the restart to beat Hazzard out of turn two and became the new race leader. The race
was now for the third spot between John Boardman and Don McGuire. Boardman had the spot with two to go. Briggs won the event as the yellow and checkers flew together. Boardman
passed Hazzard on the final circuits for second.
Twenty-seven
E-Mods started their feature event with Quincy Turner and Gary Eicher on the front row. The green was immediately followed with the yellow when Eicher went from the outside to the
inside in front of the entire field collecting a third of the field. Nathan Short, Chris Couchenour and Jamie Erhard left the speedway on the hook. A lap two spin by Eicher brought
out the second yellow as Tuner led. Turner, Dave Lyon and Chad Silleman were the restart leaders. The green was once more followed with a yellow as Jeff Walters slowed to a stop in
turn three. The yellow followed the green again as Wayne Anderson brought out the yellow. Troy Carr spun to stop on lap three collecting several cars for the fifth yellow with just
two laps complete. Nineteen cars remained for the restart which Turner controlled. Dennis Lunger grabbed second from Lyon who was third. Greg Johnson passed Lyon for third on lap
five to join Lunger and Tuner for a three way fight for the lead. A spin by Cale Crocker slowed the race with seven of the scheduled twenty laps complete. Walters brought out the
yellow on the restart and was forced to retire. Scott Gurdak and Gary Sullivan tangled on the next restart for caution number nine. Just past half way one lap later Johnson pulled
alongside Turner with Lunger sitting in the wings. Johnson and Tuner swapped the lead then Johnson slipped on lap thirteen and Lunger moved up to challenge Turner. With five laps
remaining Turner led by a car length. Johnson recovered passing Lunger and once more challenging Turner with two laps remaining. Turner was able to hold off the charging Johnson
for the win his first of the season.
Ryan
Seekings jumped to the early lead in the Spectator feature with Jamie Brown second and Dave McClenahan third. Brown and Seekings both had problems losing several spots and the
yellow flew for a stalled car in turn two. Seven laps were complete with Eric Paulus in the top spot followed by McClenahan, and Jermin Strickland. With two laps to go Paulus did a
half spin losing several spots and turned the lead over to John Boyd. Boyd led the final two to win his third of the season.
