By Glenn Slocum

Busti, NY: Applebee Motorsports and Sunoco Race Fuels sponsored "An E-Mod Saturday Night" at Stateline Speedway and sixty-seven E-Mods from New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Tennessee were on hand for the event. Five heats were run with the top four qualifying and the heat winners redrew for their starting spots along with two consolation races. Dave Hess Jr. lost the lead to Kenny Johnson early in the forty lap main event but used the low groove to regain the spot. Hess survived several cautions then put it in cruise control to pocket the $5,000 prize. Aron Dascomb led from the start winning his third Spectator feature. Tommy Fox also led green to checkers in the Outlaw Cadet event for his first feature win in the class. Chad Valone upset Super Late Model King of the Hill Darrell Bossard. Rusty Briggs passed early leader Bob Van Arsdale after the only yellow of the Super Sportsman feature for his third win of the season. Rod Maloy won his third Super Late Model feature retaking the lead when Doug Eck retired from the event. Maloy took the lead on lap eight, lost it to Eck then got it back as Eck retired. Jess Hartman won the E-Mod Consolation feature after surviving several cautions.

Jordan John and Aron Dascomb brought twenty-three Spectators to the speedway for their feature event. Dascomb had a four car length lead at the end of the first circuit with John second, Stan Davis Jr. third and Pat Landy fourth. By lap four Dascomb was lapping the slower cars as the race remained green. The yellow flew for Ryan Seekings with nine laps complete. Dascomb, John and Lonnie Waldron were the leaders for the restart. Matt Harvey moved into the number three spot on the restart lap and Waldron went to second. The leaders made contact on lap twelve with Dascomb managing to hang on to the lead. Dascomb won the event by several car lengths over Waldron.

Paul Himes and Tommy Fox were on the front row for the Outlaw Cadet feature. Fox led the first circuit with Chet Sheets second and Leonard Enos third. Rick Thompson, Glenn Slaney, Paul Norman and Steve Moynihan tangled with four laps down for the first yellow. Fox, Sheets, Enos and from his tenth starting spot Kelly Frederes were the restart leaders. Point leader Mike Moore passed Frederes on the restart lap then one lap later passed Sheets then Enos for the runner up spot. Frederes made a bold move on lap ten splitting the third and fourth place cars for the third spot. Moore tried but could not run down Fox who took the checkers with a twelve car length lead over Moore and his first win of the season.

Bob Van Arsdale grabbed the early lead in the Super Sportsman feature. A lap four incident involving Bryan Ester and John Boardman brought out the yellow with four laps complete. Van Arsdale slipped to fourth after the restart with Rusty Briggs in the top spot followed by Kelly Frederes and Joe Buccola Jr.. With two to go Frederes had caught Briggs but could not make the pass giving Briggs his third win of the season.

Twenty-five Super Late Models were led to the speedway by Rob Ledingham and Doug Eck. Rich Gardner and point leader Rod Maloy were in row two with Scott Johnson and Mike Knight in row three. Eck led Ledingham into turn one and Maloy grabbed second at the stripe. Gardner slowed on lap two pulling into the infield causing several cars to spin for the first caution. Gardner was pushed into the pits during the yellow. Eck, Maloy, Ledingham, Knight and Johnson were the lap two restart leaders. Ledingham dropped to fourth after the restart as Knight moved up to make it a three way battle for the lead. A struggling Chad Valone slowed the leaders on lap four then the yellow flew for Ward Schell, Bruce Hordusky and Doug Ricotta. Eck, Maloy, Knight, Mike Isadore and Ledingham were now the top five. Eck high and Maloy low for two laps until Maloy was able to lead on lap eight. Eck came back to lead lap nine just as the yellow flew for Ledingham in turn three. Maloy and Eck resumed the fight with Maloy having a slight edge on low side. Maloy slowed a little on lap twelve and Eck made contact. Eck lifted allowing Maloy to recover but still took the spot then the yellow flew for Andy Kania in turn two. Eck, Maloy, John Lobb, Knight, Isadore led to the restart with twelve laps remaining. The restart failed when Briggs spun collecting Greg Oakes. Eck pulled into the pits along with John Volpe putting Maloy in to first again with John Lobb second followed by Knight, Andy Boozel and Johnson. Knight passed John Lobb for the second spot one lap after the restart as Maloy slowly pulled away in the lead. Kirk Bradley passed Johnson for the fifth spot then tagged the wall bringing out the yellow with three laps remaining. One lap later Bradley tagged the turn two wall for the seventh yellow and two laps remained. Maloy took the checkers with Knight unable to make the high side work.

The green then the yellow for the first feature event for the E-Mods as two cars failed to negotiate turn four on the initial start. The next start worked but the yellow flew for a spinner on lap two. Jess Harman led with Tim Peterson second and Jason Genco third. Hartman was able to pull away from the field in the early laps. Dennis Lunger was chasing Genco for the runner up spot while Peterson slipped to fourth. The third yellow flew for Larry Kugel who had slowed to a stop. One lap after the restart Chad Silleman spun into the infield for yellow number four. Five cars tangled on the restart including Alex Feisler, Mike Potosky, Troy Carr and Chris Couchenour. Chris Peterson spun for yellow six. Lunger was able to pass Genco on the restart as Hartman pulled away. The seventh yellow occurred sixteen of the twenty laps complete. Hartman, Lunger, Jeff Walters, Genco and Al Crocker were the top five for the restart. Just one more lap was completed when another two car spin caused yellow eight. Genco lost the handle with two laps remaining then pulled into the pits during the yellow. Crocker was fourth with Larry Walters fifth. Hartman made it look easy for the win.

John Venable and Dave Hess Jr. were the front row for the forty lap $5,000 to win Applebee Motorsports and Sunoco Race Fuels feature event. Twenty-eight cars started the event and Dave Hess Jr. jumped into the early lead but before the first lap was complete the yellow flew for Ed Carley. Hess repeated the feat but once more the yellow flew for Gary Eicher and Chad Ramsey. One lap was complete with Hess first. Hess lost the lead at the drop of the green as Kenny Johnson led lap two and yellow number three flew for Mike Hess, Josh Scott and Joel Watson. Hess regained second after the restart as Kenny Johnson led. Nathan Short slowed on the front straight with five complete for the fourth caution. Kenny Johnson, Dave Hess Jr., Scott Gurdak and Andre Layfield were the restart leaders. The next restart saw a three car tangle for yellow five. Kenny Johnson once more controlled the restart with Dave Hess five car lengths back. Gurdak was in the third spot on Hessís bumper and Andre Layfield trailed Gurdak by two car lengths. Carl McKinney nearly spun causing several cars to spin to a stop to avoid him for caution six. Twelve of the forty laps were complete. Hess challenged Johnson on the restart and made the pass two laps later. Debris brought out yellow seven with fifteen complete then right after the restart Kevin Morehouse and Jack Young became hooked together for caution eight. Hess was able to hold the lead after the restart staying in the low groove while Johnson rode the cushion. Gurdak remained third with John Lacki fourth and Layfield fifth. Gurdak was the next to cause problems for Johnson and Lacki spun losing several spots and putting Layfield in fourth and Jeff Harris fifth. Johnson lost second to Gurdak as the top seven cars moved to the inside of the speedway. With ten laps remaining Hess had a five car length lead over Gurdak and Johnson was fifteen car lengths behind Gurdak. Hess put it in cruise control running the final ten on a rail and wining the richest E-Mod race in Statelineís history.
