at Stateline Speedway
By Glenn Slocum
Busti, NY: Summer arrived at Stateline Speedway for the Nature Rich Spectator "Double Nickel" and McDonalds Kids night.
Andy
Kania ended Chris Hackett’s reign as Super Late Model King of the Hill. Thirty-eight Spectator competitors were on-hand for the "Double Nickel". The first Spectator feature saw
Bill Reeves led every lap except the last losing by a nose to a charging Rush Firestone. The second half of the "Double Nickel" was won by David McClenahan who lead every lap of
the event. Randy Lobb battled his brother John for the Super Late Model win taking the lead for good after a lap fourteen restart. Mike Moore won his third Outlaw Cadet feature.
Chris Kuschel won the Super Sportsman event from his tenth starting spot. Amanda Swanson won the Lady Challenger feature. Brandon Pierce and Rick Karash were the Super Challenger
winners.
Travis Swabik and Bill Reeves were on the front row of the twenty-eight car field for the first half of the Nature Rich "Double Nickel". Ryan Seekings and Buzz Phearsdorf were
in row two followed by John Britt and John Boyd in row three. Reeves led the first circuit with Buzz Phearsdorf in the runner up spot and Travis Swabik was third. Reeves was in lap
traffic by lap five then one lap later the yellow flew for Alex Froman and John Kelsey. Reeves, Phearsdorf, Travis Swabik, John Boyd and Gary Fisher were in the top five. A lap
seven incident brought out the yellow for the second time Phearsdorf pressed Reeves on the restart but could not make the pass as the cross flags for half way was signaled. Froman
had more problems with nine laps complete for the third caution. Phearsdorf pressed the issue again on the restart making contact with the leader then losing a spot to Swabik.
Phearsdorf regained the spot. Brian Busch and John Swabik tangled on lap eleven for yellow three. Reeves, Phearsdorf, Rush Firestone, Fisher and Aron Dascomb were the restart
leaders with five laps remaining. Firestone stole second from Phearsdorf on the restart as Reeves gained a three car length lead. Reeves stretched his lead to five car lengths with
two to go as the caution flew for cars wrecked in both turns two and four. Firestone moved up alongside Reeves for the white flag then won by a nose as the yellow and checkers
flew.
John and Randy Lobb were first and second as the yellow flew for Mike Knight after the first circuit of the Super Late Model feature event. Randy Lobb, John Lobb, Doug Eck, Paul
Briggs and Chad Valone were in the top five for the lap two restart. Eck mounted a serious challenge for second right after the restart sending Randy Lobb back to third on lap
three. Eck came to stop up against the turn two fence on lap six for the second yellow ending Eck’s charge to the front allowing Randy Lobb to move up to second with Valone third ,
Andy Kania fourth and Andy Boozel fifth. The green was quickly followed by the yellow and Ted Kosinski and Chris Hackett tangled in turn two. Valone was restarted in the third spot
with Kania back to fourth and Boozel fifth. Matt Urban moved into the fray after the restart using the high side to passing Kania for the fourth spot. The Lobb brothers started
mixing it up on lap nine with Randy leading lap ten then John led lap eleven by a nose. Lap thirteen was dead even then spin by rookie Dereck Frank brought out the fourth caution
with fourteen complete. Randy Lobb was able to move away from the field as John Lobb battled Valone and Rod Maloy for second. Valone had the spot with six remaining just one car
length ahead of John Lobb. John Lobb slipped up the speedway on lap twenty one losing a spot to Maloy then one lap later to Urban. Randy Lobb took the white nearly a straight away
ahead of second place Valone and cruised to his first win of the season.
The initial start of the Outlaw Cadet feature was a no go as Rick Thompson and Mike Knight spun in turn one. Tommy Fox led the first circuit trailed by Paul Norman, Mike Moore
and Nathan Short. Paul Himes brought out the second caution with three laps complete. Moore passed Norman on lap four. Two laps later Short lost the handle while trying to pass
Norman for the third spot for yellow three. Moore and Fox contested the top spot for three laps before Moore was able to gain the upper hand. Moore made it look easy winning his
third of the season.
Bob Van Arsdale and Jake Eller were first and second after one lap of the Super Sportsman feature when the yellow flew for Joe Buccola in turn one. The second yellow flew for
Eric Ester on the restart. Ben Burgess and Rusty Briggs tangled for yellow three with two laps complete. Van Arsdale continued to control the event with Chris Kuschel second and
Eller third. At the half way mark the top three remained the same with Bob Hazzard fourth and Kelly Frederes fifth. Van Arsdale lost the lead to Kuschel the fell back several spots
putting Hazzard second and Mike Kosinski third. Kuschel won the event his first of the season.
Chad Ramsey and Greg Johnson lead the E-Mods out for their feature event. Johnson led the first lap with Ramsey second followed by Quincy Turner, Justin Carlson and Scott
Gurdak. A lap three spin by Bobby Powell brought out the first caution. Carlson use the top groove to gain the third spot on lap six then passed Ramsey one lap later for second.
Ramsey slowed and left the speedway on lap eight. Gurdak passed the high flying Carlson for the second spot just before the yellow flew for Vic Vena. Carlson pulled into the pits
with a flat during the caution setting the top five to Johnson, Gurdak, Nathan Short, Turner and Tom Hagberg. Dan Nocero, Ramsey and Bret Van Guilder brought out caution three with
fifteen laps complete. Johnson continued as the leader with Turner now third behind runner up Gurdak. The order remained the same for the final circuits giving Johnson his second
of the season.
Dave McClenahan started on the pole and led the initial lap of the second half of the Nature Rich "Double Nickel". The yellow flew with four laps complete for several cars
stopped in turn one. Alex Froman, John Boyd, Stan Davis Jr., Jermin Strickland were second through fifth. McClenahan and Boyd led after the restart with Aron Dascomb third and
Froman fourth. The yellow reappeared on lap eleven for Bill Reeves in turn four. Dascomb passed Boyd for the second spot but was unable to catch McClenahan who won his first of the
season.
