Barton Wins Corry Lumber Limited "Crate" Late Model Feature
Doug Eck Wins Super Late Model Event at Stateline Speedway
By Glenn Slocum
Busti, NY: The rain stopped but ushered in cool weather for the Corry Lumber sponsored racing at Stateline Speedway.
The Limited "Crate" Late Models were on hand for a $2,000 to win feature event and a special match sponsored by Roberts Trucking pitted many time Super Late Model Champion Dick
Barton in a Limited against young Chris Hackett in his number 33 Super Late Model. Barton was spotted a half lap lead and after five laps Hackett was unable to catch the Barton
Limited. In the Limited feature event Dick Barton came from sixth to win the Limited Late Special and pocketed the $2,000 winners share.
Bump Hedman challenged Super Late Model King of the Hill Challenge Champ Chad Valone and came up two car lengths short.
Carl Marcy came from twentieth to win his second Spectator feature. Steve Moynihan grabbed the lead on lap five to win his first Outlaw Cadet feature of the season. Joe Buccola
Jr. led every lap of the Super Sportsman feature for his first of the season.
Quincy Turner won his third E-Mod feature taking the lead from a slowing Jack Young then held off a serious challenge by Rich Michael Jr.
Doug Eck only led two laps of the Super Late Model feature, the final two. Randy Lobb led the majority of the laps losing the lead on the white flag lap to the charging Eck.
Amanda Swanson won her ninth Lady Challenger feature. Aaron Liberati and Kyle Jackson won the Super Challenger features.
Jamie Brown
and Bryon Johnson were on the front row of the Spectator feature and Brown won the dash to turn one to lead the first circuit with Lonnie Waldron second. A lap two spin collected
several cars for the first caution. Waldron started second on the restart and led lap two but another spin brought out the caution once more. Waldron stayed on top after the
restart with Bill Reeves second from his seventh starting spot. Early leader Brown spun in turn four with five complete for the third yellow. Carl Marcy moved up to contest the
number two spot with Reeves taking the spot on lap six just before the leader slowed to a stop on the front stretch belching steam for caution number four. Marcy started twentieth
in the event and assumed the lead on the lap nine restart with Reeves second followed by Matt Harvey, Clarence Dickerson and John Boyd. Marcy built a considerable lead over the
final six laps winning his second Spectator feature in a row.
Fourteen
Outlaw Cadets took the green for their feature event and Leonard Enos was the early. A slow running Buck Marrs brought out the yellow with four laps complete. Enos, Steve Moynihan
and Kelly Frederes were the restart leaders. Moynihan led lap five pushing Enos back to second and Frederes dropped into the third spot. Moynihan was not challenged through the
remainder of the event finishing several car lengths ahead of Enos.
Joe Buccola
Jr. started on the pole of the Super Sportsman feature and jumped to the early lead. Bob Hazzard was second with Tim Nocero third. Bob Van Arsdale stopped high in turn four for the
first yellow with three laps in the book. Another yellow flew two laps later. Buccola held off a challenge by Hazzard on the restart then lost Nocero passed Hazzard for second and
began to test Buccola. Hazzard lost another spot to Kelly Frederes. Frederes passed Nocero for the second spot and Buccola held on for the win.
Derrick
Frank and Bob Vogt Jr. were on the front row of the Limited Late Model twenty-five lap feature event. A yellow on the initial lap put Frank into the pits before the first lap could
be complete. Jim Frank inherited the pole for the restart and took full advantage when the green fell. Vogt was second with Greg Oakes on his bumper followed by Dave Lyon. Lyon
passed Oakes on lap five just before the yellow flew for Bobby Powell stopped up against the back stretch concrete. Jim Frank, Lyon, Oakes, Vogt and John Lacki were the top five
for the lap eight restart. Lyon nosed under Frank on the restart but could not make the pass. Veteran Dick Barton used the restart to get into the top five passing first Lacki then
two laps later Oakes. Frank and Lyon were running low while Barton was up against the fence. Lap traffic became a factor on lap sixteen with the top six cars running in a pack. As
Lyon challenged Frank, Barton used the high side to gain the top spot. Lyon and Frank made contact sending Frank off the speedway and Lyon remained in the runner up spot behind
Barton and the race remained green. Barton controlled the final laps winning by five car lengths over Lyon with Hedman trailing in third.
Scott
Gurdak started on the pole and led the first lap of the E-Mod feature. Rich Michael Jr. nosed into the lead just before the yellow flew for Jake Halpainy on lap five. Gurdak tried
high then low to pass Michael after the restart. Michael nearly lost the handle on lap eight making contact with Gurdak and sending third running Jack Young to the top spot. Gurdak
slowed with a flat for the second yellow. Gurdak went to the pits then rejoined the field just before the restart. Young, Michael and Dave Lyon were the top three. Troy Carr
stopped in turn four coming for the restart and the yellow returned to the speedway. Quincy Turner and Nathan Short joined the fray for third spot with Turner coming away with on
lap ten. Carr slowed again and the fourth yellow appeared with thirteen laps complete. Michael and Young were putting on a fierce battle for the top spot then once more the yellow
slowed the event. Young slowed after the restart and pulled into the infield allowing Turner to grab the top spot with just four laps remaining. A spin by Chad Ramsey on the white
flag lap set up a one lap dash for the win. Michael tried high then low on the final lap but could not make the pass giving Turner his third win of the year.
Pole sitter
John Lobb pulled onto the speedway for the Super Late Model feature the suffered mechanical difficulties and was unable to start the event. Chris Hackett was the new point man and
led the first circuit. Randy Lobb passed Hackett on lap two. On lap four Dick Barton sat facing the wrong direction coming out of turn two for the first caution. Lobb, Hackett,
Scott Johnson, Bump Hedman and point leader Rod Maloy were the top five for the restart. Both Johnson and Doug Eck passed Hackett after the restart as Lobb began to move away from
the filed. Hackett lost out the Maloy and Eck took the second spot. Andy Boozel slowed bringing out the second caution with ten laps complete. Lobb, Eck, Johnson, Maloy and Hackett
were the top five. At the cross flags Lobb led Eck by ten car lengths with Johnson a distant third. The third caution appeared for Mike Knight who had spun to a stop between turns
three and four. Fifteen of the twenty-five laps were complete. Lobb could not shake Eck after the restart and the two leaders started pulling away from the remainder of the field.
Eck moved under Lobb as the two to go signal was given and led the white flag lap. Lobb could not return the favor and Eck got his first win of the season.
