Chris Hackett Super Late Model Winner
at Stateline Speedway
By Glenn Slocum
Busti, NY: The third appearance of the season for the American Sprint Car Series Patriot Sprints was finally run in perfect racing weather. The evening’s events were
sponsored by Ed Shults of Warren PA and the first feature was the makeup feature from the last appearance of the Patriot Sprints. Bryan Howland made a late race pass on Jared
Zimbardi to win the first Sprint feature and Blake Breen won the second in race which saw seven lead changes.
Scott Gurdak won the King of the Hill Challenge stealing the crown from Rich Gardner.
Dan Nocero used a mid-race restart to grab the lead and the win in the Super Sportsman feature event.
Chris Hackett charged by early leader Rod Maloy on lap fifteen of the Super Late Model feature for his third win of the season.
Glen Slaney dominated the last half of the Outlaw Cadet feature for his third win.
Scott Gurdak won his third of the season in the E-Mod division from his seventh starting spot.
Aron Dascomb won his second of the season taking the lead with five laps remaining.
Jessica Hallowell was the Lady Challenger winner,
Brandon Troutman and
Bobby Rouche won the Super Challenger features.
Jared Zimbardi lost the race to turn one in the first Patriot Sprint feature to Don Adamczyk, Bryan Howland was third. Adamczyk hit lap traffic on lap seven allowing
Zimbardi to close but a spin by Kyle Moffitt brought out the first caution of the race. Eight laps were complete. Adamczyk remained in control after the restart then fell victim to
a slide job by Zimbardi on lap fifteen then lost second to Howland. Lap traffic became a factor as Zimbardi battled with Howland for the lead. Howland dived under Zimbardi in heavy
lap traffic grabbing the lead with five laps remaining. Howland ran unchallenged through the remainder of the race for the win his third of the season and first at Stateline
Speedway.
Wade Watson led the first circuit of the Super Sportsman feature with John Boardman second and Jake Eller third. Joe Buccola Jr. started eleventh and moved into the top five
just before a lap eight spin by Hank Francis for the first yellow. Watson, Boardman, Dan Nocero, Buccola and Eller were the restart leaders. Nocero used the restart to gain the top
spot right after the restart. At two to go Nocero led by several car lengths with Buccola second and Watson third. Nocero won the race his second of the season.
Twenty-one Patriot sprints reported to the speedway for their feature event, Justin Barger and Jimmy Broderick were in row one with Blake Breen and Chris Muhleisen in row two.
After a four wide salute to the fans the field took Mark Mathews green with Broderick the leader of the first lap. Breen fought back and led lap two. Joe August flipped in turn two
on lap three bringing out the red flag. August was okay but his race car required a wrecker to return to the pits. Bryan Howland moved into third on the restart lap. Broderick used
the high side to regain the lead on lap five. Lap traffic became a factor on lap ten as Breen regained the lead on lap twelve then lost to Broderick on the next lap. Breen moved
back in front on lap twenty and Broderick began to lose ground to Breen as the two to go signal was given. Breen won by ten car lengths over Broderick with Howland third.
Rod Maloy and Chad Valone were on the front row for the Super Late Model feature and stayed side by side for the first circuit and Valone just edged Maloy for the lead on lap
two. Andy Kania was third with Chris Hackett and Rich Gardner fighting for fourth. Valone tangled with the turn three concrete on lap five nearly turning over and bringing out the
caution. Maloy won the dash to turn one with Kania, Gardner and Hackett in a three way battle for the runner up spot. Maloy hugged the bottom with Kania high with ten laps
complete. Hackett was solidly in third and Gardner a close fourth. Hackett made the pass on Kania on lap twelve and Gardner moved up to challenge Kania for third. Hackett charged
to the front on lap fifteen as Maloy began to struggle. Gardner moved into the second spot on lap eighteen with Maloy third, Doug Eck fourth and Andy Boozel fifth. Five laps
remained when the second yellow happened for Greg Johnson and Nate Short. Gardner tested Hackett on the restart but could not make the pass. Gardner managed to get to Hackett’s
door handle on the last lap but lost by a car length at the finish.
Brian Crandall and Glen Slaney finished lap one of the Outlaw Cadet feature side by side. Slaney prevailed on lap two just before the yellow flew for Robert Middleton and Paul
Himes. Slaney led after the restart with Crandall second and Steve Moynihan third. Crandall lost two spots on the next two laps moving Moynihan to second and John Cline to third.
Troy Dorman, Paul Norman and Chad Carlson pushed Crandall back three more spots as the race approached the half way mark. Slaney dominated the remaining laps for his third win in
2008.
Ron Seeley and Jason Genco brought the E-Mods onto the speedway for their main event. Seeley led Genco by a nose at the end of lap one and Genco returned the favor on lap two.
Scott Gurdak was third with Chad Silleman fourth and Nate Short fifth. Gurdak was second as the caution flew for Justin Tatlow and Tom Norland. Genco, Gurdak, Short, Seeley and
Silleman were the restart leaders. Mike Munsee gained the top five right after the restart and stole fourth from Seeley on lap nine. Gurdak took the lead from Genco just before the
second caution of the event for Brian Fardink. Gurdak, Genco, Short, Munsee and Seeley led. Munsee and Silleman made contact on lap eleven putting Munsee around for the third
yellow. Silleman was sent to the tail by head started Mark Mathews on the restart and Stu Burton left the speedway on the hook. Gurdak held on to the top spot but could not shake
Genco. A lap fifteen spin by Rich Michael caused caution four. A four car tangle with Greg Johnson, Jamie Erhard, Shane Crotty and Chad Ramsey were involved for caution five.
Gurdak led Genco across the finish line by three car lengths for his third win.
Thirty Spectators took the green in their feature event with Skip Joslyn the early leader. Debris on the front straight caused the first caution with two laps complete. Two more
laps were completed before the next caution after Skip Jackson stopped on the speedway at the exit of turn two. The restart was quickly followed by the third yellow for Carl Marcy.
Three laps later caution four with Joslyn still out front. Bob Vogt Jr. was second. Vogt dived under Joslyn on the restart and led lap eight. Kevin Golden lost a wheel on lap nine
for caution five. Aron Dascomb was second with five laps remaining. Mike Moon brought out the sixth yellow with four laps remaining. Vogt, Dascomb, Joslyn and Tim Rockwell were the
restart leaders. Vogt slowed trailing smoke after the restart turning the lead over to Dascomb an Rockwell. Brandon Groters made an appearance in the top three as the race ended
with Dascomb returning to the winners circle for the second time.
