Randy
Hall Budweiser E-Mod King of the Hill
Matt Urban Super Late Model Winner at Stateline Speedway
By Glenn Slocum
Busti, NY: Randy Hall made it three in a row and won the Budweiser E-Mod King of the Hill.
Eleven year old Dillon Bergman was the
first fan to win a ride in the new Stateline Speedway Double Seater. Bergman was chauffeured by 2007 Super Late Model Champ Rod Maloy.
Matt Urban started the Super Late Model feature on the pole then lost the lead to Rod Maloy but fought back taking the lead for the final time on lap nineteen then held off a
charging Ron Davies for the win.
Buzz Phearsdorf led the final seven laps of the Spectator race for his first win of the season. John Boardman passed Jim Leonard on lap ten of the Super Sportsman feature for
his second win of the season.
Leonard Enos won his first Outlaw Cadet feature leading every lap of the caution free event.
With forty E-Mods on hand two feature events were run and Randy Hall by virtue of his King of the Hill win started on the pole and led every lap of the first E-Mod feature for
his third win in a row. Scott Gurdak and Quincy Turner swapped the lead several times in the last E-Mod feature with Gurdak leading the last one for the win.
Stephanie
Devereaux won the Lady Challenger feature and
Steve Keith Jr. and
Jeff Lamb were
the Super Challenger winners.
Twenty-four
Super Late Models took Mark Matthews green flag which was quickly followed by the yellow for Greg Johnson stopped against the fence coming out of turn two. Matt Urban and John Lobb
were on the front row for the complete restart. Rod Maloy and Rich Gardner were in row two with Andy Boozel and Ron Davies in row three. Urban led the first circuit followed
closely by Maloy and Lobb. Maloy pressed Urban on lap two then nosed him out of the lead on lap three. Maloy led by a car length on lap four using the inside of the speedway while
Urban ran the cushion. Urban closed on lap eight then led lap ten by nose. Maloy and Urban encountered lap traffic on lap eleven just before the second yellow flew for Merle Terry
stopped high in turn four. Maloy, Urban, Lobb and Davies were the restart leaders. Maloy led the next circuit then the yellow flew for Ryan Scott and Rod Ledingham. Maloy, Urban,
Davies, Lobb and Gardner were the leaders for the lap fifteen restart. Maloy gained a three car length advantage on the restart as Urban, Davies and Lobb contested the runner up
spot. Maloy began to fade on lap nineteen allowing Urban by then two laps latter Davies. Urban took the two to go signal three car lengths ahead of Davies. Davies made a charge in
the final corner but could not get by Urban.
Jay
Seekings and Stan Davis Jr. were the front row for the Spectator main event but James Britt led the first lap. Jamie Brown nearly spun collecting Alex Froman and Anthony Marotto
causing the first yellow on lap two. Britt controlled the restart but Mike Moon used the low groove to grab the lead on lap five. Britt then gave way to Buzz Phearsdorf who quickly
moved up to challenge Moon. Phearsdorf passed Moon on lap eight just before the second yellow for Froman and Jessup Baker. Phearsdorf, Moon, David McClenahan, Davis and Britt led.
McClenahan passed Moon on the restart for second then pressed Phearsdorf for the lead on lap thirteen. The third yellow appeared for debris with thirteen of the fifteen laps
complete. Moon nearly spun on the white flag lap slipping to fourth and Phearsdorf raced to the win.
Jim Leonard
used his pole starting spot to lead the first circuit of the Super Sportsman feature. The yellow flew on lap two for Ben Eckstrom and as the racers slowed for the yellow several
cars made contact on the back stretch. Chris Kuschel, Ben Burgess, Tim Nocero, Dan Nocero, Bob Van Arsdale, Kelly Frederes and Joe Buccola Jr. were all involved in the incident.
Only nine of the fifteen starters remained. Leonard easily led the next four laps with John Boardman second. Boardman caught Leonard on lap seven. Three laps later using lap
traffic Boardman took the lead from Leonard. Boardman ran the final five unchallenged for his second win of the season.
Leonard
Enos moved from third to first on lap one of the Outlaw Cadet feature. Troy Dorman gave way to Kelly Frederes on lap four for the second spot with Glen Slaney third. Enos led by
half a straight away at the cross flags. Enos made it look easy leading every lap in a caution free event and winning by several car lengths over Frederes.
Randy Hall
and Tim Peterson brought the first E-Mod feature onto the speedway. Hall won the race to turn one but the yellow quickly flew for several cars tangled in turn one. Just one more
lap was complete when the second yellow appeared for Kyle Scott in turn two. Hall, Greg Johnson. Peterson and Jack Young were the top three for the restart. Justin Carlson moved up
to the cushion and started passing cars, moving from his ninth starting spot to second by lap five. Dana Wellington brought out the third caution with seven laps complete. John
Lacki stopped on the entrance to the pits then pulled off once the yellow appeared with eight laps down. Hall led Carlson by ten car lengths at the half way mark with Rich Michael
Jr. third. The fourth caution was for Craig Bedell and Kevin Kohl. Hall moved up the speedway after the restart and rebuilt his ten car length lead over Carlson. Hall made it three
in a row continuing his perfect season at Stateline Speedway.
Mike
Munsee and Carl McKinney were the early leaders in the second E-Mod feature. A lap three yellow temporarily slowed the event. McKinney and Munsee made contact after the restart
ending with Munsee spun in turn three. Ron Seeley inherited the lead with Bret Van Guilder second as Munsee and McKinney were sent to the rear. Seeley led the next two laps with
both Quincy Turner and Nate Short giving chase. Wayne Mohawk and Shane Crotty brought out the third yellow on lap five. Turner used the restart to grab the lead from Seeley then
yellow number four occurred. Turner, Seeley, Van Guilder, Nate Short and Chad Silleman were the top five. Scott Gurdak made an appearance in the tip five after the restart setting
Silleman and Van Guilder each back a spot and challenging Seeley for the second spot. Gurdak beat Seeley to turn three on lap ten for the second spot then the yellow appeared for
Chuck Hart. Gurdak tested Turner on lap twelve but the yellow reappeared for Short and Crotty. It took Gurdak just one lap to pass Turner for the lead. Turner fought back regaining
the lead on lap fourteen. A lap sixteen yellow for TJ Downs set up four lap dash for the win. Tuner led Gurdak by a car length with two laps remaining then lost the lead to Gurdak
on the white flag lap and was unable to recover.
