By Glenn Slocum

Busti, NY: The Bear Lake Inn sponsored the finial appearance of the American Sprint Car Series Patriot Sprinters for the 2009 season. Scott Johnson won an incident filled Super Late Model feature his fourth win of the season and had to be towed from victory lane with a right rear flat. Gary Fisher won a caution filled and shortened Spectator feature. Bryan Howland led from green to checkers to win the ASCS main event his second career win at Stateline. Ben Burgess Jr. won the Super Sportsman feature. Greg Fenno mastered a slippery race surface to notch his second Outlaw Cadet feature of the season. Greg Johnson made a late rate pass to win his third E-Mod feature of the season. Elaine Best won the Lady Challenger feature. Austin Fitzgerald came from eleventh to win the first Super Challenger feature and Dustin Lamb won the second.

The first lap of the Super Late Model feature saw a three car tangle causing a complete restart. Pete Alspaugh, Doug Eck and Greg Johnson were the three cars involved. The second start was marred with a multi-car wreck in between turns three and four, Chris Hackett, Bump Hedman and Rich Gardner were collected in the incident. The third start was successful for just one lap as Gardner had more problems causing caution number three. Scott Johnson was out in front for the restart but another incident at the exited of turn two caused caution four, Dennis Lunger, Scott Gurdak and Wendell Pinckney were involved. Scott Johnson beat Andy Boozel to the line to lead lap three. Randy Lobb was third with John Volpe fourth and John Lacki fifth. The yellow reappeared with seven laps complete for Greg Johnson. Scott Johnson remained the leader and quickly pulled away from Boozel who led Lobb by ten car lengths. Boom Brigs was using the high side and took fifth with twelve laps down then fourth one lap later. The next yellow saw Greg Johnson and Ted Kosinski tangle with fourteen laps complete. Scott Johnson, Boozel, Randy Lobb, Briggs and Volpe were the restart leaders. Briggs was within striking distance of the leader passing Lobb for third on lap fifteen. Briggs charge slowed with five laps remaining and Lobb regained the fourth spot as Scott Johnson once again lengthened his lead. Andy Boozel came alive with three laps remaining pressing Scott Johnson. The white flag was followed by the yellow for cars slowing on the back stretch. Eck spun Dutch Davies under the caution and was disqualified. Just one lap remained for Scott Johnson. Scott Johnson won the dash and captured his fourth feature of the season.

A lap two tangle in the Spectator feature collected point leader Mike Moon, Jermin Strickland, Nate Lester and Brian Wilson as Damon Lewis led. Lewis, Matt Bove and Nathan Earle were the restart leaders. Three cars brought out the second caution, Brandon Groters Dave Tackett Jr., and Matt Harvey. One lap later Mike Rotunda brought out caution three. With five laps complete Jerry Fish stopped in the pit entrance for caution four. Lewis, Gary Fisher, Kevin Golden, Brandon Pierce and Bove were the leaders. Berton Chapel spun to a stop on the back stretch for caution five on the restart. Bove had problems in turn four for caution six with six laps complete. Caution seven happened one lap later for John Britt and Chad Schauers then caution eight on the restart forcing officials to go to a single file restart. Race leader Lewis suffered mechanical problems on the restart causing caution nine and was pushed from the speedway. Fisher assumed the lead followed by Golden, Tackett, Pierce and Groters. Rob Brown spun on lap nine for caution ten. Tackett started a charge on the restart and moved into third with four laps remaining. Pierce pulled smoking into the infield and head starter Mark Matthews threw the yellow and the checkers to end the race giving Fisher the win his second in 2009.

Bryan Howland and Jared Zimbardi led the Patriot Sprints on to the speedway for their A-Main. Bobby Breen and Don Adamczyk were in row two. Howland won the race to turn one with Zimbardi second and Breen third. Bubba Broderick and Scott Kreutter tangled on lap five bringing out the caution flag. Both cars were able to continue. Gary Kreiss collected Chris Muhleisen on the restart for caution two. Howland used the high side of the speedway with Zimbardi staying low after the restart. With ten laps complete Howland led Zimbardi by half a straight and was approaching lap traffic. A half spin by Devon Caron brought out the third caution of the event just past the half way point. Chuck Hebing wanted the runner up spot and gave Zimbardi problems for three laps before dropping back into third. Howland had once more caught the rear of the field with two laps remaining led Zimbardi by ten car lengths. Howland hung on for the win his second at Stateline Speedway.

Ben Burgess Jr. was the early leader of the Super Sportsman feature with Steve Kania second and Ron Burgun third. Green flag laps prevailed as Burgess worked lap traffic. Richie Langer lost a radiator hose and came to a steaming stop on the front stretch for the first and only caution of the event with twelve laps complete. Burgess won race his second of the season.

A light rain started at the onset of the Outlaw Cadet feature as Gary Fenno led. The rain continued as the races tip toed around the slippery track. Fenno was lapping cars with Kelly Frederes second and Chad Carlson third. Starter Mark Mathews threw the caution with ten laps complete for debris in turn two. The rain slowed as the green fell for the restart and Fenno controlled the event once more. Fenno led the final five for his second win of the season.

Randy Hall led to the green for the E-Mod feature with thirty E-Mods in tow. Hall took the lead with point leader Justin Carlson second. Dave Lyon spun into the infield and the exit of turn four with four laps complete for caution number one. Lyon had more problems on the restart for caution two. Rich Michael Jr. spun into the infield on the restart and Michael McGee broke an a-frame for yellow three with seven laps complete. Greg Johnson used the restart to take second from Carlson and Chris Couchenour moved up to challenge Carlson for third. Several cars spun just after the half way mark including Mike Munsee and Brad Wall. Michael spun again with thirteen laps complete for the fifth yellow. The restart saw caution six for Dave Shagla and John Kelsey and caution seven on the next restart again for Shagla. Greg Johnson took the lead from Hall just before the eight caution and on the restart several cars spun for caution eight. Johnson took the two to go sign the lap after the restart then the white followed by the checkers for his third win.
