Scott Gurdak Wins Super Late Model and E-Mod Feature at Stateline Speedway
By Glenn Slocum
Busti, NY: Scott Gurdak won his first of the season in the Super Late Models and Chad Ruhlman thrilled the crowd with a run from nineteenth to second. Gurdak came back
later in the evening to win the E-Mod feature also his first of the season.
Jared Zimbardi led the final three laps of the Maplevale Farms ASCS Patriot Sprint A-Main notching his first win at Stateline.
William Pinkney won the first Super Challenger feature his third for the year and Richard Langer won his fourth in the second feature. Tabetha Howard won the Lady Challenger
feature her second win of the season.
John Boardman continued to dominate the Super Sportsman division winning his sixth of the season. Paul Norman Jr. won his second of the season in the Outlaw Cadet division. Gary
Fisher won his second Spectator feature of the year surviving several cautions for the win.
John Volpe and Pete Alspaugh made
up row one of the Super Late Model feature. Row two included Chris Hackett and Dick Barton with Scott Gurdak and Chad Valone in row three. Volpe won the race to turn one on the
start and led by three car lengths to ten the first circuit. Doug Ricotta tangled with a tractor tire pushing it onto the speedway bringing out the first caution with two laps
complete. Volpe, Gurdak, Hackett, Barton and Doug Eck, up from his eight starting spot, were the top five for the restart. Volpe held on to the lead with Gurdak and Hackett
fighting over second. Dennis Lunger was up to fifth as Barton slipped back through the field. Gurdak led the ninth circuit as the high side seemed to be the place to be. Hackett
was third with Eck fourth and Lunger fifth. The second yellow appeared for Wendell Pinckney and George LaBarbera with eleven of the twenty-five laps complete. Rod Maloy and Chad
Ruhlman passed Lunger on the restart for fifth and sixth. Hackett and Eck put Volpe back to fourth then Ruhlman continued to advance moving into third with six laps remaining.
Gurdak caught the rear of the field with five remaining and Ruhlman moved into second. The race remained green for the remaining laps giving Gurdak his first win of the season in
heavy lap traffic as Ruhlman’s charge from nineteenth came up one spot short.
Bobby Breen and Bubba Broderick
led the ASCS Patriot Sprints onto the speedway for their main event. Bobby Breen led lap one with Broderick a close second. Broderick moved to the high side and led lap two.
Broderick quickly built a 15 car length lead as the field was single file around the speedway. The yellow appeared with five laps complete for a slowing car. Broderick, Breen,
Bryan Howland, Don Adamczyk and Jared Zimbardi were the restart leaders. Broderick stayed high to retain the lead. The yellow reappeared for a stopped Chris Muhleisen. The field
lined up nose to tail for the lap thirteen restart. Zimbardi tested Howland on the restart but could not make the pass. The green only stayed out for one lap as Blake Breen spun to
a stop in the exit of turn two. One lap later the point leader Bryan Howland spun for the third yellow losing his third spot and forced to restart at the tail of the field. Bobby
Breen was the restart leader passing Broderick on the last restart for the top spot. Zimbardi put Broderick back to third on the restart and began to chase Bobby Breen for the top
spot. Adamczyk was fourth wind Gary Kreiss fifth. Blake Breen did a flip with four laps remaining stopping the racing action. Blake Breen was okay but had to retire from the event.
Zimbardi was determined to make it a race and beat Breen to the line with two to go and led the next lap. The yellow flew for early leader Broderick on the final lap. Zimbardi was
out front with Bobby Breen second and Adamczyk third and that was how it ended giving Zimbardi his first win at Stateline.
Lap one of the Super Sportsman
feature ended in yellow with Justin Devereaux and Tom Kosinski tangled up in the exit of turn four. Ron Burgun led. Wade Watson took control after the restart with Burgun second
and Dan Nocero third. A smoking Bob Hazzard brought out the second caution with four laps complete. Watson, Burgun and Nocero were the restart leaders. Nocero led lap five with
point leader John Boardman up to second from his thirteenth starting spot. Joe Buccola made and appearance in the top five then quickly moved to third putting Watson back to
fourth. Boardman chased Nocero until coming for the white when he made the lead taking pass on the back stretch. It was Boardman’s sixth win of the season.
Tyler Green and Darwin Peters
tangled in turn two before the completion of the first Outlaw Cadet lap. David Marrs and Bryan Johnson were in row one. A track tire brought out the second caution on the restart.
Paul Himes led lap one then Rodney Thoms led lap two just before the yellow flew for Marrs stopped on the edge of the speedway between turns one and two. Himes regained the lead on
the restart then fell victim to Paul Norman Jr. on lap four. Chad Carlson and point leader Mike Moore took over second and third as Himes fell to fourth. A lap ten yellow for
Leonard Enos allowed the field to close with Norman. Adam Hilyer caused the fifth yellow with eleven laps complete. Norman survived the final four laps winning his second of the
year.
Darren Tarabori led the first lap
of the E-Mod feature but before the second lap could be complete the yellow flew for John Woodward Jr. and Vic Vena. Dave Lyon was second with Scott Gurdak third and Justin Tatlow
fourth. A four car wreck after the restart collected Chad Silleman, Troy Carr and Woodward. Gurdak became the new leader beating Tarabori into turn one on the restart. Lyon was
third and Tatlow fourth. Lap three was completed just before the third caution this time for Greg Johnson. Starter Mark Matthews waived off the restart. The second restart of lap
four was okay and just as the leaders began lap six several cars were collected in a turn three incident. Bill Peterson and Ron Seeley were among those involved. Gurdak, Lyon,
Tarabori, Justin Tatlow and Justin Carlson were the leaders. The restart was marred by another yellow with Chris Couchenour and Seeley involved. Rich Michael grabbed fifth from
Tatlow on lap six then began pressing Carlson for fourth. Gurdak led by several car lengths at the half way point. A lap sixteen spin by Anthony Marotto ended the longest green
stint of the race with sixteen of the twenty laps complete. Gurdak ran the final four laps unchallenged for his first E-Mod win of the season.
John Mease led lap one of the
Spectator feature with Stan Davis Jr. second. A spin by Kyle Bradigan brought out the yellow with three complete. Gary Fisher was second after the restart and Mease retained the
lead. Davis was third with Clarence Dickerson Sr. fourth. Matt Bove spun on lap five for the second caution. Fisher took the top spot from Mease after the restart then the third
caution occurred this time for Matt Harvey and Shane Erhard. Two laps later another multicar incident for yellow four. Fisher, Davis and Chad Schauers were the restart leaders.
With five laps remaining Schauers passed Davis for second. With two laps to go Brian Wilson had troubles in turn four for caution five. Schauers spun trying to pass Fisher on the
final lap. It was Fishers second win in 2009.
