Busti, NY: Busti, NY: The final point race for the
2009 season was sponsored by Corry Lumber at Stateline Speedway. Double points
were awarded in all divisions and the Spectator Special was run.
Bob Hazzard led every lap of the Super Sportsman
feature for his first win of the season. John Boardman’s fourth place finish
assured his points title.
Tyler Green led every lap of the Outlaw Cadet feature
for his first win of the season and Mike Moore clinched the point title.
Rod Maloy never gave up the top spot winning his third
Super Late Model feature and Chad Valone became the 2009 Super Late Model Point
Champion.
Chad Carlson led from lap two of the E-Mod feature
surviving a late race charge by Rich Michael for the win and the E-Mod point
title.
Kyle Bradigan won the Spectator Special surviving
several cautions and Brandon Groters weathered an early tangle to finish sixth
and win the point race.
Elaine Best won her fourth Lady Challenger and
Stephanie Hilyer narrowly defeated Tabetha Houser for the point title. Jamie
Hebner came from eighteenth to win the first Super Challenger feature and Randy
Beckstrom came from fifteenth to win the second. Bobby Rouche won the Super
Challenger Point title.
The first feature of the evening was the Super
Sportsman event with Mike Genco and Stephanie Devereaux in the front row. Bob
Hazzard came from third to lead the first lap with Genco second. Dan Nocero Jr.
passed Genco for the number two spot on lap two. Genco continued to slide back
through the field as Joe Buccola Jr. and John Boardman both got by. Genco
tangled with Steve Kania with eight laps complete bringing out the first caution
of the race. Hazzard, Nocero, Buccola, point leader Boardman and Ron Burgun were
the restart leaders. Ben Burgess lost the handle with ten of the fifteen laps
complete for the second yellow. Bryan Ester and Jake Eller caused caution three
with eleven complete. Hazzard battled Nocero for the over the final four laps
winning by a car length at the checkers.
Tyler Green led the first lap of the Outlaw Cadet
feature. Point leader Mike Moore charged into second just before the yellow flew
for second in points Chad Carlson and David Marrs. Green spun in front of the
field coming out of turn four bringing out the caution and Moore was sent to the
tail for aggressive driving. Green was given his spot back with John Cline
second and Brian Crandall third for the restart. Green was able to quickly build
a 20 car length lead over Cline. Green ran the final laps unchallenged for his
first Outlaw Cadet win of the season.
Scott Johnson spun in turn one on the first lap of the
Super Late Model feature. Rod Maloy and John Lobb were in row one for the
restart with point leader Chad Valone third. Maloy led Valone by three car
lengths at end of lap one and before the second lap could be completed the
yellow flew for Johnson and Ted Kosinski. Maloy remained the leader after the
restart as Lobb, Valone and Andy Boozel fought for the number two spot. With ten
laps complete Maloy was out in front by 15 car lengths and then number two spot
was up for grabs. Lobb and Boozel tangled on lap fourteen allowing Valone to
take second with Boozel third and Lobb fourth. Maloy was in lap traffic by lap
fifteen with nearly a straight away lead over Valone. Doug Eck became a player
with five laps remaining capturing fourth from Lobb. The race was for second as
Maloy seemed untouchable. At the checkers Maloy grabbed his third win of the
season and Chad Valone won his first Super Late Model Point Championship.
Dave Shagla took advantage his number one starting
spot to lead the first lap. Cale Crocker brought out the caution as the first
lap ended. Point leader Justin Carlson was second for the restart with Troy Carr
third and Alex Froman fourth. Carlson came out of corner two on the restart with
the lead. The battle for second fell to Carr, Shagla and Ron Seeley up from his
ninth starting spot. Seeley began his chase of Carlson with 13 laps remaining in
the event. A lap ten caution for debris allowed the field to close with Carlson
and Seeley. Greg Johnson was third after the restart as Carr slipped to fourth.
Three cars tangled with 11 laps complete, Cale Crocker, Chris Couchenour and
Shane Crotty for caution three. Carlson showed his strength after the restart as
he quickly began rebuilding his lead. Seeley lost the number two spot to
Johnson. Rich Michael Jr. set Seeley back another spot lap sixteen then passed
Johnson one lap later. Michael could catch Carlson going into three but fall
back coming out of turn four. Carlson successfully held off the charging Michael
for the win and the 2009 Championship.
Jason Seekings was on the pole for the Spectator
Special and led the first circuit. Racing was fast and furious over the first
three laps and several near cautions occurred. Sam Courson spun collecting Brian
Wilson and Mike Rhines for the first caution with five laps complete. Seekings
spun in front of the field and Mike Moon, Brandon Groters and Damon Lewis
tangled in turn one. Point leader Groters pulled into the pits during the yellow
and returned to join the end of the field. John Britt was the new leader with
Kyle Bradigan second. Bradigan took the lead from Britt just before a lap 12
yellow for several cars in turn one including Matt Harvey and Paul
Schreckengost. Debris brought out the yellow right after the green with fourteen
of the twenty laps complete. Six laps remained after the restart. Bradigan
controlled the restart with Britt second and Tackett third. With two laps to go
the caution flew for Skip Jackson after contact with Tackett. Tackett was sent
to the rear for the restart. Bradigan took the green followed quickly by the
white and the checkers for his third win and Groters claimed the 2009 point
title.
Elaine Best was the early Lady Challenger leader with
Natalie Hilyer second and Stephanie Hilyer third. Stephanie took second on lap
three and began to run down Best. With two laps remaining Best led by two car
lengths. Stephanie Hilyer could catch Best but not make the pass giving Best her
fourth win of the season.
