ASCS Patriot Sprint A-Main and
John Lobb Wins Super Late Model Feature at Stateline Speedway
By Glenn Slocum
Saturday July 10th, 2010 Busti, NY: The final 2010
appearance of the ASCS Patriot Sprints was held on a perfect end of summer
evening sponsored by Budweiser and Arthur R. Gren.
Kelley Frederes won a caution filled Outlaw Cadet
feature where only twelve of the twenty two starters finished.
John Lobb won his first Super Late Model feature of
the season leading from the initial green flag.
Bryan Howland made a lap eighteen pass to win the ASCS
Patriot Sprint A-Main. Tim Kelly was the early leader and finished second.
Second in the E-mod point standings Greg Johnson won
his second of the season and closed the point gap with leader Scott Gurdak.
Dan Nocero Jr. passed early leader Allen Haskins with
just two lap remaining to win his second Super Sportsman feature of the season.
Jason Covey notched his first Spectator win of the
season leading from the start.
Joshua Beckstrom won his third Super Challenger
feature and Greg Rockwell won his first.
Bob
Vogt Jr. and Stan Davis Jr. made up the front row for the Outlaw Cadet feature.
Davis won the first lap then Vogt got into trouble in turn one on the second lap
bringing out the yellow. Debris caused the second caution on the restart. Chad
Carlson became the new leader on the restart then debris slowed the event once
more with three laps complete. Carlson, Davis and point leader Kelly Frederes
were the leaders. Frederes bested Davis just before the next yellow this time
for Chad Schauers. The restart ended in turn two with multi-car incident
collecting Schauers, Vogt and Bob Rouche. There were two attempts for the next
restart before the green stayed out with Carlson out in front. Paul Himes slowed
to a stop just off the speedway causing the next yellow with seven of the twenty
laps complete. The eight caution of the event occurred on lap nine with a spin
by Jake Finnerty. Finnerty spun again for caution nine. Schauers and Rick Karash
tangled for caution ten on the restart. Carlson slowed and stopped at the pit
entrance for yellow number eleven turning the lead over to Frederes. Davis was
second with Tyler Green third. Twelve of the twenty-two starters remained for
the lap twelve restart. The contest was now for second as Frederes easily out
distanced the field. A lap sixteen spin by Troy Dorman allowed the field to
close with Frederes. Carlson spun Moynihan and earned the black flag as the one
to go signal was given to Frederes. Frederes prevailed for his sixth win of the
season.
John
Lobb and Darrell Bossard won the redraw and the privilege to start on the front
row of the Super Late Model feature. Andy Kania had trouble in the exit of turn
two on the start collecting Doug Eck. Eck’s car was towed from the speedway and
Kania returned to join the end of the field after a brief trip into the pits.
John Lobb, Bossard, Randy Lobb, Dutch Davies and Chris Hackett were the leaders.
The Lobb brothers lead lap one with John in front and Randy second. Davies and
Randy Lobb were fighting for second Dick Barton drove by on the high side to
grab the spot. Just one lap later Barton tagged the wall coming out of two then
slowed in three for the second caution. Barton pulled into the pits during the
caution. After just four laps only fourteen of the original starters remained.
John Lobb was in control at the half way mark with a ten car length lead over
Davies with Bossard a distant third. Ward Schell lost the handle just past the
half way point and during the caution Randy Lobb stalled on the speedway and was
helped into the pits. The top four remained the same with John Volpe fifth and
Andy Boozel sixth from his eighteenth starting spot. Lobb continued to dominate
after the restart and Hackett beat Bossard to third. A smoking Bossard continued
to lose spots and Hackett closed with Davies for the runner up spot. Lobb took
the checkers and Davies held off Hackett for second.
Todd
Hoddick won on the pole for the ASCS Patriot Sprint 25 lap A-Main. Don Adamczyk
was second with Bryan Howland third and Tim Kelly fourth. Adamczyk led the first
circuit and Kelly the second. Howland used the cushion taking the second spot on
lap three as Kelly led. Howland closed with Kelly and was alongside by lap nine
just before they entered lap traffic. The first yellow of the event occurred
just before the halfway mark for Kyle Moffit. Kelly, Howland, Jared Zimbardi,
Adamczyk and Bubba Broderick were the leaders with eleven lap completed. Howland
dogged Kelly as they moved away from the third and fourth place cars. Howland
made his move on lap eighteen passing on the backstretch. Kelly charged back two
corners later but could not make the pass. Bob Reis slowed in front of the
leaders on the next circuit and Howland scrapped the wall pass the stalled Reis.
Howland was the restart leader with Kelly second and Zimbardi third. Broderick
was fourth for the restart. Howland changed his line after the restart moving to
the bottom and began pulling away from Kelly. Howland finished nearly a half a
straight away ahead of Kelly and Reis spun in the exit of four on the final lap.
Kyle
Bedell and Alex Froman brought 28 E-Mods onto the speedway for their feature
event. Greg Johnson and Ron Seeley were in row two and Dan Davies and Scott
Gurdak were in row three. Bedell was the first back to the start finish line
with Johnson second. Johnson led lap three by a nose and was solidly in the lead
on lap four. Dan Davies was third and Rich Michael Jr. was fourth. Kyle Bradigan
stopped in the exit of turn four with a tractor tire used to mark the infield
under the front of his car bringing out the caution flag with six laps complete.
Point leader Scott Gurdak pulled into the pits during the caution. Johnson took
the outside for the restart and handily led lap seven. Chris Couchenour stopped
up against the turn three wall for caution two with nine laps complete. Jaben
Hill struggled on the restart for caution three. Michael was third on the
restart and took second from Davies when the green fell. Hill and Mike McGee
caused caution four at the end of lap ten. Michael did a near spin on lap twelve
losing second to Davies. Third in points Justin Carlson pulled into the pits
just before the yellow flew for Ben Asel. Sixteen laps were complete four
remained. Davies remained up against the fence over the final circuits losing
second to the low running Michael on the final lap as Johnson won his second of
the season.
A
ragged start of the Super Sportsman feature sway Allen Haskins lead from his
sixth starting spot. Ben Reed was second and Dan Nocero Jr. was third. John
Boardman stopped up against the turn four fence causing the first caution with
three laps complete. Haskins was still in front at the half way point with
Nocero second and Reed third. Tom Kosinski and Jason Schumaker caused the second
caution with five laps remaining. Haskins, Nocero and Ben Burgess Jr. were the
leaders. Haskins slipped just a little coming out of turn two and lost the top
spot to Nocero. Nocero took the two to go and cruised through the final two
circuits for his second win.
A
spin by Josh Crull marred the initial start of the Spectator feature. Kevin
Golden and Travis Darling were on the front row with Jason Covey and Sam Courson
in row two. Debris caused the second caution with no laps completed. Covey led
the first round with Golden second and Courson third. Point leader Brandon
Groters was third on lap five and the yellow flew for Ken Drake stopped in turn
four. Covey, Golden, Groters, Courson and Kyle Weilacher led. Gary Fisher spun
for caution four. Gorters drove into the pits on lap six and Brandon Pierce
became the third place car. Courson caused caution five with ten laps complete.
Matt Harvey joined the top three on lap eleven relegating Pierce to fourth. With
two to go Nathan Earle spun for caution six. Covey ran the final two laps
unchallenged for his first win of the season.
