7th, 2010 - Robbie Blair Wins Roberts Trucking/Seamens Auto Wrecking ULMS Lynn
Seamens/Darlene Roberts Memorial at Stateline Speedway
By Glenn Slocum
Saturday August 7th, 2010 Busti, NY: The ULMS
Super Late Models made their second appearance this year at Stateline Speedway
in a 50 lap Memorial for Lynn Seamens and Darlene Roberts. Roberts Trucking and
Seamens Auto Wrecking sponsored the event that paid $7,000 to the winner.
Thirty-two Super Late Models were on hand, running three heats with the top
three going to the redraw for their starting spot. Robbie Blair won the event in
a Mike Knight backup car after a multi-lap duel with Dave Hess Jr..
Steve Moynihan led from green to checkers in the
Outlaw Cadet feature for his first win of the season.
John Boardman passed Joe Buccola Jr. on the final lap
of the Super Sportsman feature for his fourth checkers of the season.
John Boyd came from fourth to win his second E-Mod
feature of the season passing early leader Brian Fardink on lap seven.
Ken Drake won the Spectator feature after a hard
fought battle with veteran Mike Moon.
Randy Beckstrom won the first Super Challenger feature
and Chris Knisley won the second.
Steve
Moynihan was in first at the end of the first lap of the Outlaw Cadet feature.
On lap two Chad Schauers brought out the yellow. Moynihan led the next four laps
then the second yellow occurred this time for Ryan Scott. Moynihan, Kelly
Frederes and Chad Carlson were the lap seven restart leaders. Frederes moved up
along side Moynihan on lap nine then again on lap ten but could not complete the
pass. A lap 10 spin by John Cline caused caution number three. Moynihan entered
lap traffic on lap seventeen but Frederes and Carlson were unable to take
advantage. Moynihan took the white with a four car length lead over Frederes.
Carlson nipped Frederes at the line for second and Moynihan cruised to his first
win of the season.
Mike
Genco was the early Super Sportsman leader. Joe Buccola Jr. charged to the front
on lap three then Genco lost the handle collecting Wade Watson for the first
caution of the race. Genco was unable to continue. A lap five spin by Watson
caused caution number two. Dan Nocero Jr. was second at the half way point with
John Boardman third and Ben Burgess Jr. fourth. Nocero ran up the back of the
Buccola machine as they were coming to the white sending Nocero back two spots
then Buccola nearly spun the final time through turn two allowing Boardman by
for the win.
Chad
Valone won the redraw and started on the pole for the ULMS 50 lap memorial
event. David Scott was off the pole, Dick Barton and Dave Hess Jr. were in row
two and Rob Blair and Dutch Davies were in row three of the 31 car field. Valone
led into turn one but Scott was in front out of turn two. Circuit number two saw
Valone give way to Dave Hess Jr.. Robbie Blair moved by Valone on the next lap
and the top three cars began to move away from the field. Scott was up on top
with Hess trying to make the low side pass and Blair waiting for an opening. The
race remained green with the leaders entering lap traffic nine laps into the
event. Hess finally led a lap on lap twelve. The yellow flew for the first time
with thirteen laps complete for Dennis Lunger stopped high in turns one. Hess,
Scott, Blair, John Volpe and Dick Barton were the restart leaders. Blair took
second from Scott on the restart and Volpe was all over Scott for third. Volpe
lost a little ground and Barton quickly took advantage. Blair lead on lap
twenty-two and Hess fought back to lead the next lap in heavy lap traffic.
Valone stopped at the pit entrance nearly collecting Chad Ruhlman for the second
yellow with twenty-five laps completed. Hess, Blair, Scott, Barton and Mike
Knight made up the restart top five. Barton climbed up the speedway to challenge
for third just before John Lobb and Scott Johnson tangled sending both cars
spinning into the infield in the middle of the front stretch. Lobb pulled into
the pits and Johnson required a wrecker to leave the speedway. Hess, Blair,
Scott, Barton, and Knight were in front. Blair led lap twenty nine as Hess began
to fade. Barton remained on top and Hess stayed low as they battled for the
second spot. Blair slowly pulled way from the second place battle and one more
entered lap traffic this time on lap thirty-nine. Ron Davies stopped in turn
four for caution number four with nine laps remaining. Nathan Short and Dennis
Lunger brought out the fifth caution on the restart. Blair, Hess, Barton, Knight
and Scott were the leaders. Blair controlled the restart and Barton started to
struggle and had to contend with Knight. Blair was in cruise control with a
clear speedway and two laps to go. Knight was third. Blair took the checkers and
Knight nearly nipped Hess for second.
Brian
Fardink used his front row starting spot to lead the early laps of the E-Mod
feature. John Boyd was second and Ron Seeley third. A lap six spin by Dennis
Asel caused the first caution. Shane Crotty had troubles on the restart for the
second caution. Boyd beat Fardink to the line on lap seven becoming the second
leader or the event. Boyd ran the remainder of the event unchallenged for his
second win.
The
initial lap of the Spectator feature stopped after a multi-car incident near the
back of the field. Nicholas Mohawk, Jason Covey and Josh Crull were involved.
Matt Sampson led the first lap then gave way to Ken Drake on lap two. The second
yellow appeared on lap three when Bob Perry failed to negotiate turn four. Kyle
Weilacher was the next yellow victim on lap four. The yellow came out again on
lap five for Crull. Mike Moon was second after the restart. Drake was able to
keep the lead though Moon tried high and low to make the pass. Perry had more
problems bringing out the fifth yellow. Drake managed to hold off Moon through
the final circuits.
