31st, 2010 - Dave Hess Jr. Wins Applebee Motorsports UEMS E-Mod Invasion
Dutch Davies Super Late Model Winner
at Stateline Speedway
By Glenn Slocum
Saturday July 31st, 2010 Busti, NY: Applebee
Motorsports sponsored the UEMS E-Mod Invasion at Stateline Speedway. Sixty-one
E-Mods tried to qualify for one of the 26 starting spots in the main event
through 6 heat races and 2 consolation races. A light rain started at 9:00 pm
during the 2nd E-Mod Consolation race then stopped shortly after the
race was complete. Dave Hess Jr. won the front row starting spot and held Rich
Michael Jr. at bay for the entire 40 lap main event pocketing the $5,000
winner’s check.
Nathan Hill led from lap two of the E-Mod
Non-Qualifiers Feature for his first win a Stateline.
Dan Nocero Jr. survived an early race multi-car
incident that affected nearly half the field to win his first Super Sportsman
feature of the year.
Dutch Davies made the high side pass for the lead on
lap fourteen to win his first ever Super Late Model feature at Stateline. Scott
Johnson led the early laps.
Brian Wilson was also a first time winner mastering
the Spectator feature event.
Chad Carlson held off a late race charge by rookie
Steve Kania to win his second Outlaw Cadet feature of the season.
Tabetha Houser was the Lady Challenger winner and
Devin Ohl and Jeff Lamb were the Super Challengers winners.
Mike
Burnham and Marc Luce were on the front row for the Super Sportsman feature. On
the first lap the leaders tangled ending the night for Jake Eller and Allen
Haskins. Joe Buccola Jr. was towed into the pits but returned a lap down. Mike
Genco and Ben Reed pulled into the pits. Dan Nocero Jr. took the lead on the
restart with John Boardman second. Al White brought out the second caution after
his car erupted in steam. With five laps remaining Nocero led Ben Burgess by
five car lengths and Boardman was a distant third. Burgess caught Nocero on the
white flag lap but could not complete the pass giving Nocero his first win of
the season.
By
the luck of the draw Dave Hess Jr. and Ron Davies were on the front row of for
the 40 lap $5,000 to win Applebee Motorsports E-Mod Invasion main event. Hess
led the first circuit then Rich Michaels Jr. moved up alongside on lap two. Hess
was up against the cushion and Michael was in the low groove. The first yellow
appeared with five laps complete for Ron Seeley and Tim Peterson. The lap six
restart saw the first four in single file with the remainder doubled up. Hess
and Michael resumed their battle for the lead and Hall dropped into third. The
yellow flew for the second time with nine down as Peterson had problems in turn
one. The restart was just like the last with Hess high and in the lead followed
by Michael, Hall, Kevin Morehouse and Chad Ruhlman. Ruhlman beat Morehouse out
of turn two on lap fifteen for the top spot and two laps later was alongside
Hess for third. Hess and Michael were nearly a quarter lap ahead. Just as the
leaders entered lap traffic the third yellow happened, Justin Carlson had
stopped in turn one. Carlson left the speedway as the track crew lined up the
cars for the restart. Scott Gurdak retired during the lap 21 yellow. Ruhlman was
solidly in third on the restart sending Hall back to fourth as Hess continued to
dominate the race. Ron Davies moved into fifth with 14 laps remaining just
before the fourth yellow as Kyle Bedell spun. Hess had a harder time staying in
the lead after this restart as Michael stayed alongside for several laps.
Peterson and Chris Couchenour tangled with 31 laps complete for yellow number
five. Davies lost fifth to David Scott right after the restart. As the laps
wound down Hess stayed up on top and Michael continued to press from the bottom.
Bedell spun coming out of two immediately after the leaders took the two to go
signal for yellow six setting the stage for a two lap dash for the win. Hess,
Michael, Ruhlman, Scott and Hall were the leaders. Scott beat Ruhlman to the
line finishing third as Hess won with Michael second.
Mike
Eschrich led the first lap of E-Mod Non-Qualifiers feature then lost the handle
on lap two causing the first yellow. A seven car pile up occurred on lap two for
the second caution, Dustin Eckman was the leader with Nathan Hill second and
Brian Douglas third. Hill led lap as Eckman settled into second with Douglas
third and Butch Southwell third from his 14th starting spot. Debris
caused the third yellow with six laps complete. Lap seven was completed then the
yellow return as Kevin Buff slowed to a stop on the back stretch. The leaders
slowed during the restart and three cars tangled trying to break for yellow
five. Hill stayed in control and at the half way point led by half a straight
away. Southwell passed Eckman for second then the sixth yellow occurred, Tony
Marotto had spun in turn four. Southwell was able to close with Hill for the
restart and eight laps remained. Southwell could not keep up with Hill on the
restart allowing Hill to quickly rebuild his lead and John Boyd took third from
Eckman. Hill made it look easy over the final laps winning by several car
lengths over Southwell.
Scott
Johnson and Dutch Davies led the Super Late Models onto the speedway for their
feature event. Randy and John Lobb were in row two and Dick Barton and Bump
Hedman were in row three. Dave Hess Jr.’s car stopped during the preliminary
laps and had to be towed into the pits before the race was started. Johnson led
the first circuit on lap two John Lobb lost power causing the first caution.
Johnson, Randy Lobb, Davies, Barton and Darrell Bossard were the restart
leaders. Doug Eck was fourth after the restart then quickly passed Randy Lobb
for third as Davies chased Johnson. Davies was able to move alongside Johnson on
lap ten but could not mane the pass and Andy Boozel was fifth pushing Bossard to
sixth. Davies move to the high side and made the pass stick on lap fourteen to
become the race leader. Davies was able to move away and Johnson now had Eck to
contend with for second. With seven laps remaining Davies had to contend with
lap traffic and Eck was up under Johnson for second. Lap traffic continued to be
a problem for Davies over the final circuits and Eck took second from Johnson.
With two laps remaining Randy Lobb got by Johnson for third. Davies held on for
the win his first of the season and his first at Stateline.
Clarence
Dickerson was the early Spectator feature leader. A lap four spin by Nathan
Earle collected Josh Crull causing caution number one. One lap later Travis
Darling spun for caution two. After the restart but before lap four was complete
Matt Sampson slowed on the back stretch for caution three. Jason Covey became
the new leader on lap five. Mike Moon was third, Brian Wilson fourth and Matt
Harvey fifth. Point leader Brandon Groters moved into the top five on lap eight.
A lap ten spin by Harvey collected Ken Drake and caused caution four. Covey,
Dickerson, Wilson and Groters were the restart leaders. A spin by Dickerson sent
point leader Groters to the rear with Dickerson for the lap eleven restart.
Wilson used the restart to beat Covey to the line on lap eleven just before
Kevin Golden got a little too close to the turn one concrete for caution six.
Wilson, Covey, Moon, Gary Fisher and Earle were the leaders. Groters took fifth
on the restart then fourth one lap later as the two to go signal was given.
Groters was third on the white flag lap where his charged stalled. Wilson held
on to win the event his first win of the year.
2009
Outlaw Cadet Champ Mike Moore was on the pole for the Outlaw Cadet feature with
Chad Carlson along side. Moore got the jump and led the initial lap. Carlson
used the outside to pass Moore for the lead two laps later. Ryan Scott was
third, rookie Steve Kania fourth and point leader Kelly Frederes fifth. Stan
Davis Jr. spun with eight laps complete bringing out the yellow. Carlson, Moore,
Kania, Scott and Frederes led. Frederes caused the next yellow after stopping
high in turn three. Moynihan was now fifth as Frederes left the speedway on a
hook. Kania was able to get under Moore on lap thirteen for the second spot.
Chet Sheets stopped facing the wrong way in turn four on lap fourteen. Carlson
gave Kania the bottom over the next few laps but Kania could not make the pass.
John Cline Jr. spun with three laps remaining in the race. Kania make a last lap
last corner charge but lost by a nose at the line. It was Carlson’s second win
of the season.
