By Glenn Slocum

Saturday July 3rd, 2010 Busti, NY: The M.A.C. Truck Parts/Chadís Ring and Pinion Jen Carlson Outlaw Cadet Memorial was held on a perfect summer evening. Super Sportsman Bob Hazzard suffered an injury in his qualifying heat as did Super Late Model point leader Scott Johnson. The heads up start put Glen Slaney on the pole for the memorial race and he went on to lead every lap for his third win of the season.

Doug Eck used the cushion to win his first Super Late Model feature of the season with Chris Hackett second after Scott Gurdak had mechanical problems on the final lap while running second to Eck.

Immediately after the Super Late feature Gurdak survived several cautions and a spin to win his first E-Mod feature of the season.

Jake Eller was injured during the Super Sportsman feature halting the racing action for the night.

The Outlaw Cadets did a four wide lap in honor of Jen Carlson. Glen Slaney and Chris Ottaway made up the front row with John Cline and rookie Steve Kania in row two. Slaney won the drag race to turn one at the start to lead the first lap. Young Kania grabbed second on lap three as the filed settled into green flag racing. Ottaway was third followed by Cline. Paul Norman stated throwing sparks from under his right front wheel then pulled into the infield on lap eight. One lap later Ryan Scott spun to a stop between turns one and two for the first caution of the race. Slaney, Kania, Ottaway, Cline and Chad Carlson were the restart leaders. At the half way point Carlson had moved up a spot into fourth but top three remained unchanged. Kania started to close with Slaney and with eight laps remaining sat three car lengths behind Slaney and Ottaway was a distant third. The yellow flew with eighteen laps complete for Tyler Green in turn four. The top three restarted single file with the remainder of the field doubled up. Carlson pulled into the pits after the restart so point leader Kelly Frederes was third. Debris brought out the third caution with five laps remaining. Carlson rejoined the field during the caution. Slaney Kania, Ottaway, Frederes and Bobby Rouche were the leaders. The race ended as it had started with Slaney out in front.

Ben Asel led the first circuit of the Spectator feature but the yellow flew before the second could be completed. Several cars were involved but the only ones unable to pull away were Bryan Johnson and Ken Drake. Matt Sampson spun on lap three but the race stayed green. A turn four spin by Kyle Weilacher caused caution two with four laps complete. Wilson moved up along side Asel on lap five but could not make the pass and Brandon Groters moved into the top five from his 16th starting spot. Josh Crull brought the fourth caution with a turn two spins with seven laps complete. Asel, Wilson, Jason Covey and Groters were the leaders. Groters passed Covey on lap eight the one lap later took second from Wilson. During the Groters charge Matt Harvey became a player following Groters up through the top five and was third when the fifth yellow flew. Groters beat Asel to turn one and led out of two but the yellow flew before the lap was complete for Mike Moon. Groters repeated the pass for the lead after the restart and Asel was now sandwiched between Groters and Harvey with Wilson a distant fourth. Groters was able to build a lead over Harvey and Asel as the two to go signal was given. Crull had more problems causing the next yellow leaving just two laps to decide the outcome. Wilson stopped his smoking car during the caution then retired to the pits. Harvey passed Asel for the runner up spot as Groters took the checkers for his sixth win.

Chris Hackett made a bold move on the start of the Super Late Model Feature charging under leader Nathan Short to try and move him up the speedway but Short held him off and as the lap ended Chuck Parker brought out the yellow flag. Eck was the leader followed by Scott Gurdak and Short. Short struggled on lap three after the restart loosing several spots as Eck used the cushion to move away from the field. Gurdak was second followed by Hackett, John Lobb and John Volpe. Scott Johnson retired to the infield on lap seven. Eck was into lap traffic on lap nine. The top five cars were all running high against the cushion. Hackett tried several times to pass Gurdak but could not complete the pass. Volpe slowed to stop bringing out the caution and requiring a push to return to the pits. Eck, Gurdak, Hackett, Lobb and Darrell Bossard were the restart leaders. Lobb nearly spun trying to drive under Hackett on lap twenty losing fourth to Bossard as the top three drove away. With two to go Gurdak slowed with a problem allowing the race to end with yellow and checkers giving Eck his first win of the season.

Chris Couchenour spun on the first lap of the E-Mod feature causing a complete restart. Scott Gurdak was in the top spot at the end of lap one with Troy Carr second and Greg Johnson third. Johnson beat Carr to the line on lap two then one lap later gave the position back to Carr. Anthony Marotto spun for caution two with three laps complete. Steve Huling was the next racer to have problems causing caution three on the restart with a spin in turn one. It was three wide into turn one on the restart and Nathan Hill lost the handle for caution four. Dan Davies was the next to bring out the caution stopping up against the fence in turn one. Gurdak lost the handle on the restart spinning into the infield and before the field could get stopped six cars were involved. The head starter ruled that second place Greg Johnson had jumped the start and gave Gurdak back his starting spot for the next restart. Gurdak was able to make a clean restart but Ron Slaney stalled in the pit entrance the yellow returned. Gurdak, Johnson, Tim Rockwell and John Boyd were the leaders. Justin Carlson became a contender on lap nine fighting with Boyd and Rockwell for third. Carlson was solidly in third with five laps remaining but was nearly a half a lap behind Gurdak and Johnson. Gurdak won the race his first for 2010.

Al White and Mike Genco were on the front row for the Super Sportsman feature. The first restart was yellowed then on the restart several cars made contact and after jumping a wheel Jake Eller was tuned into the wall for the third caution. Ellerís injuries stopped the racing action as a helicopter was called to transport him to the hospital. Management ended the nightís events.
