Chris Hackett Wins Super Late Model Feature
at Stateline Speedway
By Glenn Slocum
Busti, NY: Mother Nature delivered a hot and humid
evening for the McDonalds Spectator Special at Stateline Speedway. Point leader
and defending champion Brandon Groters came for 17th to win the
McDonalds Spectator 20 lap event his fourth win of the season.
The Outlaw Cadet feature was filled with cautions and
Glenn Slaney mastered them all for his second win of the season.
Chris Hackett made it look easy in the Super Late
Model division as he used the cushion to out distance the field winning his
first feature in 2010.
The E-Mods suffered from yellow fever with Greg
Johnson the winner his first of the season.
Joe Buccola Jr. made it two in a row grabbing
his second feature win in the Super Sportsman division.
Stephanie Hilyer won the Lady Challenger feature her
first of the season. Jimmy Diabo won his fourth Super Challenger feature and
Austin Karash won his second.
Travis
Darling and James Britt were on the front row for the McDonalds Spectator
feature and point leader Brandon Groters started 17th. Britt led the
field at the end of lap one with Darling second but lap two ended with Britt
losing the lead to Brian Wilson the third place starter. The first yellow
occurred one lap later for Ben Asel in the infield. Wilson, Nathan Earle, Kevin
Hill, Brandon Pierce and Brandon Groters were the restart leaders. Pierce moved
to second and Groters to third on lap four then Groters continued his charge
passing Pierce on lap seven for second. Josh Crull stopped in the pit entrance
bringing out caution number two on lap eight. Nicholas Mohawk went up in smoke
during the caution and was pushed into the pits. Groters finished his charge on
the restart to take control of the race. Pierce was second with Wilson third and
Ken Drake fourth. The third caution occurred with ten laps complete for Kevin
Golden for a spin in turn two. The fourth caution quickly followed the third as
Bryan Johnson had problems in turn four, nine laps remained. A lap sixteen spin
by Hill dropped him out of the top five a caused caution five. A car out of
position caused a waive off for the start once the green fell Groters showed his
strength as he quickly jumped to a 10 car length lead. On lap eighteen Johnson
sat facing the wrong was in turn one for caution six. As the flagman was
preparing to show two to go Kiel Weilacher spun for caution seven. Groters
cruised through the final two laps extending has point lead for his fourth win
of the season.
Eighteen
Outlaw Cadets started their feature event with Glen Slaney the early leader.
Chad Carlson and Jake Finnerty brought out the yellow on lap two. Slaney, Steve
Moynihan and Mike Moore were the restart leaders. Troy Dorman was spun on lap
three for the second yellow. Point leader Kelly Frederes passed Moore for third
on the restart. Slaney and Moynihan were able to move away from the field then
Moynihan jumped the cushion trying to pass for lead on lap six. Slaney was now
followed by Frederes, Moore and Kania. One more lap was completed then Rodney
Thoms brought out caution four. Rookie Steve Kania ran up under Mike Moore the
resulting chain reaction put Tyler Green around for caution five. After some
discussion Green was sent to the rear of the field moving Carlson into the top
five with seven laps complete. Bob Rouche spun for caution six with nine laps
complete. Finnerty spun on ending lap thirteen. Slaney remained the leader with
Frederes second, Moore third and Kania fourth. An incident on the restart
collected Moynihan, Thoms, Green and John Cline for caution seven. Once the race
restarted Slaney was able to control the event leading Frederes by five car
lengths at the finish for his second win of the season.
Chris
Hackett grabbed the early Super Late Model lead from his outside pole starting
spot. Three laps were in the books when Rob Middleton spun in turn four for the
first caution. Hackett, Andy Boozel, Bump Hedman, Wendell Pinckney and Nathan
Short were the leaders for the restart. Hackett choose the outside for the
restart and was 5 car lengths ahead of second place Boozel at the end of lap
four. Eck moved up and was third by lap six with Hedman fourth and Scott Gurdak
fifth. Hackett began lapping cars on lap nine and had nearly a half a lap lead
when Middleton had more problems for the second caution. Ten of the twenty-five
laps were complete as the field closed with Hackett for the restart. Hackett
stayed up against the cushion and moved away from the field. John Lobb and Scott
Johnson were making a late race move challenging Hedman for the fourth spot.
With five to go Johnson was fourth and Hedman fell to fifth. Hedman continued to
drop losing fifth to Lobb with four laps to go. Hackett was now in lap traffic
with a half a lap lead over Boozel and Eck. Eck drove deep into turn three on
the final lap and beat Boozel to the finish line as Hackett notched his first
win of the season.
Dave
Shagla led the first lap of the E-Mod feature. Mike McGee and others caused the
first yellow on lap two. Greg Johnson took over after the restart. McGee and
Alex Froman were involved in the second caution with three laps complete. An
incident on the restart kept the yellow out and head starter Mark Matthews sent
Jordan Eck and Ron Seeley to the pits. Johnson stayed in front with John Boyd
second, point leader Justin Carlson third and early leader Shagla fourth. Chet
Sheets spun as did Randy Raynor to avoid Sheets for the fifth yellow. Eight laps
were complete and the top four remained Johnson, Boyd, Carlson and Shagla.
Veteran Scot Gurdak was fifth and Tom Hagberg sixth. On lap ten Anthony Marotto,
Steve Huling and John Kelsey brought out yellow number six. Troy Carr was a
victim of other cars bumping and banging for caution seven. Shane Crotty stopped
in turn four for caution eight. Six laps remained in the event. Green then
yellow as Kelsey spun in turn two on the restart. The longest green flag run of
the race occurred on the final six laps which were all led by Johnson. Boyd was
able to challenge on the first lap after the last restart but then fell in
behind Johnson for the final laps. It was the first win of the season for
Johnson.
Ben
Burgess Jr. and Ben Reed brought out the yellow on the second lap of the Super
Sportsman feature and John Boardman led. Dan Nocero Jr. was second from his
tenth starting spot and Jake Eller third. Joe Buccola Jr. dislodged Eller from
third on lap three. Mike Genco lost the handle on lap five for caution number
two. Buccola passed Nocero for second then two lap’s latter beat Boardman out of
turn two for the race lead. Burgess had recovered from his early spin and was in
the fourth spot. Buccola was the winner beating Boardman to the line by several
car lengths.
