Scott Gurdak Super Late Model Winner at Stateline Speedway
By Glenn Slocum
Busti, NY: The House of Television sponsored
events at Stateline Speedway involved over 180 race cars in seven divisions.
Matt Harvey lost then regained the lead in the final laps to win the Spectator
Special. Glen Slaney came from sixth leading just the final two laps of the
Outlaw Cadet feature for his first win of the season ending Kelly Frederes win
streak. Ben Burgess Jr. made it to victory lane after falling one lap short last
week for his first win of the year. Randy Hall beat 34 E-Mods to win his first
of the season as point leader Rich Michael Jr. recovered from a near spin in the
final laps to finish second. Tawny Crocker won the Lady Challenger feature her
second of the season. Jimmy Diabo won his third Super Challenger feature and
Austin Fitzgerald notched his second.
Travis
Darling was on the pole at the start of the Spectator feature but failed to
complete a lap. Bryan Johnson and Nick Mohawk were the new leaders on the
restart. Matt Harvey won the restart to lead lap one with Rob Brown in second.
Josh Crull stopped facing the wrong direction in the exit of turn two for the
second yellow with four laps complete. Several cars tangled in lap five for the
third caution. Kevin Hill was the only car unable to continue. One lap later the
fourth caution occurred this time for Brandon Groters and early leader Nick
Mohawk. At the end of ten laps Harvey was out in front by 10 car lengths over
Brown with Brandon Pierce third. A lap 16 spin by Kyle Weilacher allowed the
field to close with Harvey. Brown, Pierce, Ken Drake and Chris Withers completed
the top five. Brown moved under Harvey on lap seventeen the two raced side by
side through lap eighteen. Harvey allowed Brown to pass then went low passing
Brown at the exit of the next corner to regain the lead and one lap later the
win.

Super Late Models reported to the speedway for their feature event. Chad Valone
was the first to cross the line leading lap one then Randy Lobb slowed with a
heavily smoking car for the first caution of the event. Valone, Nathan Short,
Dutch Davies, Doug Eck and Rod Maloy were the leaders. Davies neatly spun in lap
three losing several spots moving Maloy to third. Lap five say Scott Gurdak take
fourth and David Scott fifth. Scott continued to charge and was second as the
yellow flew for Jamie Brown. Valone, Scott, Gurdak, Short and Chris Hackett led.
Scott was up from his thirteenth starting spot with just eleven laps complete.
24 cars remained for the restart. Scott took just two laps to take the lead from
car owner Valone. With 9 laps remaining Gurdak used the high side to pass Valone
for second. Charles Supplee spun with seven laps remaining just as Gurdak took
the lead from Scott using the high side just like Scott did to pass Valone
earlier. Short was fourth and Hackett fifth. Scott remained nearly even with
Gurdak through the next two circuits then Gurdak gained some day light just
before the yellow flew once more for Supplee. Four laps remained with Gurdak and
Scott out front followed by Hackett, Valone and Maloy. Head started Mark
Matthews aligned the field single file for the restart. Gurdak remained high and
in charge but Hackett took the white in second. Gurdak was the winner and
Hackett nipped Scott at the line for second.
Chad
Schauers and Brian Crandall were on the front row for the Outlaw Cadet feature.
A spin at the end of lap one caused yellow number one. Schauers was the leader.
Steve Moynihan passed Schauers on lap two for the lead. Kelly Frederes and Glen
Slaney were second and third when the yellow flew for Tyler Green. Schauers left
the speedway with a right front flat during the yellow. Stan Davis and Green
tangled with eight laps down for the fourth caution. Davis had more troubles one
lap latter causing caution five. Frederes tested the high side on the restart
lap then the yellow reappeared this time for rookie Steve Kania. Frederes passed
for the lead on lap twelve only to lose it the line then made it stick one lap
later. Green spun for caution seven with seventeen laps complete. Slaney made
his charge after the restart and the two nearly wrecked coming to the white flag
with Slaney coming away with the lead. Slaney held on breaking Frederes perfect
record for his first win of the season.
Wade
Watson gave way to Ben Burgess Jr. on the first lap of the Super Sportsman
feature. John Boardman was second with Joe Buccola Jr. third. With ten laps
complete Burgess led by a straight away over Boardman and Buccola was several
car lengths back in third. The race remained green and Burgess dominated the
final laps for his first win of the season.
Dustin
Eckman and Randy Hall were on the front row for the E-Mod feature with 33 E-Mods
in tow. Hall led the first circuit. Two cars tangled on lap four, Kevin Peru and
Ron Seeley for caution number one. Hall, Greg Johnson, Rich Michael Jr., Eckman
and Alex Froman made up the top five. Hall remained the leader after the restart
and stayed up against the cushion. Hall began lapping cars at the 10 lap mark.
Heavy lap traffic slowed the leader allowing Johnson and Michael to close.
Jeremy Bucktooth lost the handle between turns three and four for the second
yellow with just four laps remaining. Hall, Johnson, Michael, Justin Carlson and
Scott Gurdak led. Hall nearly lost the lead to Johnson on the restart then
Michael nearly spun one lap later losing a spot Carlson. Michael charged back in
the final lap gaining two spots to finish just behind Hall. It was Hall’s first
win of the season.
