18th, 2010 - Doug Eck Wins Super Late Model Feature
Chris Hackett Super Late Model Champion at Stateline Speedway
By Glenn Slocum
Saturday
September 18th, 2010 Busti, NY: The 2010 last night of racing was
a sad affair for long time track owner and promoter Francis Seamens had passed
away the night before. Prior to the first race of the evening all of the race
cars did a 4 wide salute in honor of Mr. Seamens.
Kyle Zimmerman won the $1,000 dollar Crate Late
Model event, rained out from last week, with a late race pass of Jason Genco.
Steve Dixon made it three wins in four starts in the second Crate Late Model
event passing John Lacki on the final lap for the win.
Mike Moon won his first Spectator feature of
the season and with a third place finish Brandon Groters won the point
championship. Groters celebrated his championship by winning the second
Spectator feature his tenth win of the season.
John Boardman won both of the Super Sportsman
features finishing second in the points and Joe Buccola Jr. won the
Championship.
Randy Beckstrom won the first
Super Challenger feature a double points race and the third a non-point makeup
race from last week. Dennis Clemens Jr. won the second double points event.
Jimmy Diabo was the Super Challenger point leader going into the two point races
but finished 19th allowing Aaron Liberati
with his third place finish to win the Super Challenger title. Tracy Paxton won
the final Super Challenger feature.
John Boyd won his third E-Mod feature and Scott
Gurdak with a third place finish bested Greg Johnson for the point title.
Kelly Frederes ended his dominating Outlaw
Cadet season with his seventh win and the point Championship. Tyler Green won
the makeup non-points feature his first Outlaw Cadet win of the season.
The Super Late Model feature ended in
controversy as early leader John Volpe was disqualified turning the race over to
Doug Eck for his second win of the season.
Last
weeks rained out Crate Late Model feature was the first feature run and Jason
Genco was the early leader. A lap three spin by Les Lyon brought out the first
caution. Genco led after the restart with Kyle Zimmerman second. A three car
incident caused caution two on lap 5. Newt Tackett, Lyon and Adam Sixt were
involved. Steve Dixon two time Crate Late winner at the speedway moved back into
second on the restart. Dixon and Genco were both racing hard for the top spot
when Dixon suddenly spun to a stop in turn two then after the yellow flew pulled
into the pits. Zimmerman was second for the Genco controlled restart with 12
laps remaining. Zimmerman made his move on lap nineteen making an inside pass of
Genco as they exited turn four. Zimmerman ran unchallenged to the double
checkers for his first win a Stateline.
Kevin
Hill started second but led the first lap of the first Spectator feature. Nathan
Earle was second with Sam Courson third. Steve Keith stopped in turn four for
the first yellow. Hill was still the leader with Courson second and Earle third.
Two laps latter James Britt spun in turn two for the second yellow. Courson lost
several spots making contact with Hill on the restart. Mike Moon climbed into
second then coming out of the final turn passed the leader for his first win of
the season. Point leader Brandon Gorters clinched the Point Championship with a
third place finish.

The
first lap of the Super Sportsman double point feature ended in turn two with
Gary Haskins and Ben Reed spinning. Jake Eller led the first round from his pole
starting spot with Wade Watson second. Allen Haskins and Ben Burgess Jr. tangled
on lap three ending with Haskins spun to a stop in turn two. John Boardman with
Burgess in tow move by the second place car on lap four. Burgess nearly spun
losing several spots and Boardman claimed the top spot. The next yellow flew for
Eller after he spun then stalled in turn four. Six laps were complete with
Boardman leading followed by Wade Watson, Burgess, Mike Kosinski and Dan Nocero
Jr. Burgess started charging toward the front once more after the restart
passing Watson for second. On the next circuit Boardman slowed in turn three and
Burgess nearly spun to avoid him losing several car lengths to the leader.
Burgess again caught Boardman with seven laps remaining then with two laps
remaining Jason Schumaker caused the next caution of the event. Burgess was
struggling with broken steering on the restart and ended his race with a spin
coming out of turn three for the final caution of the event. One lap remained
for Boardman with Watson second and from his 15th starting spot
Nocero. Boardman held on for the win his fifth of the season. Joe Buccola Jr.
won the Super Sportsman title.
A
first lap spin by Chet Sheets marred the start of the Outlaw Cadet double points
feature. Rodney Thoms was on the pole but Kelly Frederes led them back to the
start. Thoms, Stan Davis Jr., and Steve Moynihan tangled as Frederes finished
the first lap for caution number two. Frederes led lap two with Chad Carlson
along side and Tyler Green third. Chris Ward caused yellow three with six laps
complete. Frederes, Carlson, Green, Glen Slaney and John Cline were the leaders.
Brian Crandall had problems on the restart for caution four. One lap after the
restart Crandall and Rick Karash locked bumpers for caution five. Karash stopped
next to the track for caution six with ten laps complete. Frederes continued as
the leader after the restart with Carlson right behind and Green a car length
behind. Carlson pulled into the pits as the yellow flew for debris, six laps
remained. Green became the next challenger for the top spot but Frederes was up
to the test each time leaving Green to settle for second and giving Frederes his
seventh win of the season.
The Super Late Model double point feature was led to the green by Chad Ramsey
and John Volpe with Volpe leading the first circuit. A multi-car tangle
collected Doug Eck, Jason Morell and point leader Chris Hackett with three laps
down. On the restart John Lacki spun for caution two. Volpe, Ramsey, Dutch
Davies and Andy Kania led. Another multi-car incident ended the restart
involving Bruce Hordusky, Andy Boozel, Scott Gurdak and Darrell Bossard. Kania
went from fourth to last after a near collision with the back stretch wall and
Davies moved up to challenge Volpe for the lead. Eck was third with Ramsey
fourth. Randy Lobb was fifth and point leader Chris Hackett sixth. Hackett
charged by Lobb and Ramsey for fourth. As the laps wound down Volpe was in lap
traffic with Davies on his bumper. On lap 15 Davies pulled into the pits then
the leader tagged Boozel for caution. During the yellow Volpe was put to the
rear of the field and Volpe’s crew started a fight with the flagman resulting in
the disqualification of Volpe. Eck was the new leader and eight laps remained.
Eck had a sizeable lead after the restart but the race was on for second and
Gurdak and Hackett fought for the spot. With two to go Gurdak faded allowing
Hackett an uncontested second place finish and Eck his second win of the
season.
John
Boyd started on the E-Mod pole and led the first lap. Greg Johnson was second
followed by Alex Froman and Ron Seeley. Point leader Scott Gurdak was fifth.
Steve Simon stopped high in turn four bringing out the yellow with four of the
twenty laps complete. Seeley slowed to a stop just before the green and was
pushed into the pits. Just one more lap was completed before the next yellow as
Tom Pierce had spun in turn two. Debris slowed the race just before half way.
Chris Couchenour stalled trying to return to the speedway after a spin with
eight laps remaining. Dave Shagla pulled back on the speedway in heavy lap
traffic collecting Couchenour for caution six. Dave Atkinson was the next to
have problems for caution seven. Caution eight occurred on the restart as Mark
Gilbert had spun in turn four. The final five laps were run under green and Boyd
was firmly in control for his third win.
Crate
Late Model feature number two was led to the green by John Lacki and Newt
Tackett. Lacki took the early lead Tackett second and Jason Genco third. Jamie
Brown and Bob Craig brought out the first caution of the race with five laps
completed. A lap eight caution for debris bunched the field behind the leaders.
Rich Gardner caused caution three with a spin on the restart. Steve Dixon and
John Volpe were fifth and sixth and Adam Sixt ran fourth. Dixon made a high side
pass on Sixt for fourth with ten laps remaining. Lacki had nearly a straight
away lead over Tackett. Dixon continued to advance passing Genco for third on
lap eighteen then Tackett for second one lap later. Tim Schram and Jamie Brown
caused caution four with six laps remaining. Lacki had Dixon to contend with and
with two laps remaining Dixon nearly tried to make the pass on the low side then
on the final circuit Dixon used the high side and made the pass for his third
win in four starts.
Ben
Reed was the leader of the 2nd Super Sportsman race when a spin by
Gary Haskins caused caution number one. Reed gave way to Dan Nocero Jr. three
laps later just before Reed tangled with David Stein for yellow two. Nocero,
John Boardman, Joe Buccola Jr., Jake Eller and Ben Burgess were the restart
leaders. Marc Luce stalled on the restart for caution three. Orville Edward
collected the next yellow and a few laps later Gary Haskins caused a yellow.
Burgess climbed to third after the restart and just before a spin by Eller for
caution six. The final laps ended with a pass by Boardman for his second win of
the night his fifth of the season. Nocero held off Burgess for second.
Sam
Courson and Brandon Groters were on the front row for the second Spectator
feature. Groters grabbed the early lead. Debris brought out the caution on lap
three. Steve Keith caused caution two on lap five. Nathan Earle and Kyle
Weilacher made a sandwich out or Courson on lap six sending Courson back to
fourth, Weilacher to third and Earle to second. Groters had nearly a full
straight lead over the field when yellow three flew. Ken Drake was stalled
between turn one and two. Six laps remained for Groters. Earle, Weilacher, Mike
Moon and Courson trailed. Earle lost his second place with a spin on lap twelve
then on the restart Jason Covey spun for caution four. With two to go Weilacher
nearly spun and Mike Moon was right there to take advantage but no one could
catch Groters as he cruised to his tenth win.
Four
cars brought out the caution on the first lap of second Outlaw Cadet feature.
Rick Karash, John Kline and Brian Crandall were involved. Mike Moore led the
first lap with Tyler Green second and Chet Sheets third. Green muscled by Moore
on lap four to become the new leader and Steve Kania passed Sheets for third.
Kania was able to get under Moore several times but could not make the pass
stick until just past the half way mark. A lap twelve yellow for Chad Schauers
allowed Kania to close with Green for the final eight laps. Two laps after the
restart Kania attempted a pass and failed then settled in behind Green as they
worked lap traffic. Green was able to hold Kania at bay for the win his first of
the season.
