on Sysco Food Kid’s Night at Stateline Speedway
By
Glenn Slocum
Fifty-one Super Late Models were on hand for the fifty-lap Tony White
Memorial Race. Crash Moreau’s Thrill Masters entertained the crowd and
Owner/Promoter Fran Seamen also joined the Thrill Masters to drive in the first
stunt of the show. The thrills continued through the Super Late Model event as
Dan Armbruster made a last lap, last corner pass of a spinning Dave Scott to win
the event. Scott had led from the beginning but came up just one corner short of
the win. Vic Earle and Pat Passanise won the Spectator events. Pat McGuire
continues to dominate winning the yellow marred Limited Late feature and then
won his first Budweiser Super Sportsman event. John Pencille lead every lap of
the Outlaw Cadet feature to post his second win of the year and maintain his
points lead. Randy Hall won the E-Mod feature after a heated battle with Dale
Applebee.
Scott Ottawa was on the pole for the first Spectator feature with Joe
Houser second and Dave Surenna third. Dave Surenna grabbed the lead from a very
loose Joe Houser on lap one. Dana Wellington spun on lap two. Vic Earle Sr. took
control on the lap two restart and led through lap eight when a spin by early
leader Dave Surenna brought out the third yellow of the event. Steve Huling
moved up to challenge the leader on the restart but Earle hung on for the win.
Barrett Brown finished third behind Huling and Earle.
Pat Passanise led the first seven laps of the second Spectator feature
with Ron Bush in second. Fourth place car Ken Jackson spun on lap eight causing
the first yellow of the event. Rick Sperry tapped leader Passanise on the
restart causing the third place car of Ron Bush to spin. Bush ended up in the
pits with Passanise still in first and Sperry second. Passanise won with Sperry
second and George Stetson third.
Randy Lobb and Dave Scott brought thirty-one Super Late Models to the
line for the fifty lap Tony White Memorial. Point’s leader Rod Maloy started
third next to Chris Hackett. Scott took control on the start with Randy Lobb and
Maloy giving chase. Dick Barton, Chad Ruhlman and Rick Briggs tangled in turn
three on lap four for the first caution. John Lacki spun in traffic on lap four
and Rick Briggs gets involved for the second caution. Scott moved to the high
side and motored away from the field. Bob Close went to the pits on lap fourteen
as Scott entered lap traffic. Scott started lapping cars and had half the field
lapped when the yellow was shown on lap twenty-one. Two laps after the restart
Maloy and Cran Nyweide spin for caution four. Only twenty-one cars remained for
the lap twenty-three restart. Scott was still firmly in control with Randy Lobb
second and Scott Johnson third. With twenty go Scott still led the way with
Randy Lobb second and Matt Urban shown third. Chris Hackett spun on lap
thirty-two allowing the field to close up behind Scott. Bryan Emory and Rick
Briggs collide on the restart for caution five. Dan Armbruster move up to
challenge Urban for third on lap thirty-seven and made the pass on lap forty and
getting by Lobb for second. John Lacki and Bruce Horduskey spin on lap
forty-one. Scott got a big jump on the restart and moved to the top of the
speedway with Armbruster trying the low line. Bump Hedmond, Rick Isadore and Ron
Olson spin on lap forty-three allowing Armbruster to close the gap to Scott’s
rear bumper. Armbruster would move under Scott but the momentum was with Scott.
John Lobb slowed with four laps to go and the caution flew again. Al Crocker got
tagged and ended up in the wall under the flag stand on the restart ending his
racing for the evening. Matt Lux spun one lap after the restart setting up a
three lap dash for the win. Armbruster made the move going into turn three on
last lap as Scott lost the handle spinning in front of the field and giving the
win to Armbruster. Randy Lobb slowed for spinning Scott allowing Jay Watson into
second and Matt Urban third with Dave Lyon fourth.
The Limited Late Model start was marred by a spin by Wayne Mohawk then
Mike Moore, Bob Vogt and Al Cressley spun on the restart. Pat McGuire took the
lead on the third attempted start and got one lap in before Andy Knight slowed
on the back stretch for the third caution. Chad Ramsey passed McGuire on the
restart but a John Cline spin brought out the yellow again. McGuire passed
Ramsey for the lead on lap four until a spin by Les Lyon slowed the race once
more. Bear Moynihan spun on lap five collecting early leader Ramsey. McGuire was
still in the lead with Al Cressley running second and Bobby Rohrer third. Mike
Moore passed Rohrer for third on lap seven as another spin slowed the event
again. McGuire was leading by
twenty car lengths on lap eleven as Moore continued his charge by passing
Cressley for second. A Troy Dorman
spin stopped the race with eleven in the books allowing Moore to close up behind
McGuire. Dorman spun again on lap sixteen. Mike Coyle spun in the entrance to
turn three setting up a one-lap dash for the win. Les Lyon spun on the last lap
restart. McGuire went on for the win with Moore second and Cressley third.
Terry
Daniels, Aaron Robinson and Shane Jones collide on lap two of the Outlaw Cadet
feature as John Pencille leads. Lonnie Waldron stopped his smoking car under the
flag stand on lap six for the third yellow. Todd Church was in second with
Pencille still on the point and Matt Lamphere third. Scott Kuschel brought out
the third caution on lap eight. Jeff VanArsdale moved up beside Church with five
laps to go as Pete Alspaugh spun in turn one. VanArsdale passed Church with two
to go but could not catch Pencille.
Scott Bayle lead laps one through four of the Budweiser Super Sportsman
feature with Pat McGuire in second and Mike Kosinski in third. Kirk Hayes spun
on lap five. Pete Volpe slowed one lap after the restart. A flat on the Dana
Cummings car brought out the yellow on the lap five restart. McGuire moved into
the lead with three to go and never looked back as Bayle slide to third behind
Kosinski.
Dave Hess Jr., Shane Applebee, Mark Grabowski and Keith Bidwell were
involved in a first lap incident in the E-Mod feature. Ron Loney and Ken Drake
tangled on the restart as leaders Tim Rater and Kevin Decker try to get a lap
in. Ron Loney and Mark Grabowski spun to the infield on lap two. Loney spun
again before another lap was in. Randy Hall moved into the second position then
passed for the lead on lap four as the caution filled event was slowed once more
by a spinning Dean Ruth who collected Mark Grabowski. Keith Bidwell left on the
hook after a spin on lap six as Hall leads the event. Dean Ruth came to stop on
the front stretch on lap seven. Dale Applebee was all over Hall until he spun
with two to go. Hall won the event with Kevin Decker second and Shane Applebee
third.
