wins Super Sportsman Championship Race on Coyote Performance Products and Brad
Penn Oil
“Fun Night” at Stateline

Coyote Performance Products and Brad Penn Oil sponsored “Fun Night”,
the last points event for 2002 at Stateline Speedway. John Pencille survived
many cautions to win the Outlaw Cadet feature and the Championship title. Ramsey
ran away from the field to win the first Spectator feature. Dave Surenna led the
final three laps to win the second Spectator event. Mike Kosinski led every lap
of the Budweiser Super Sportsman Championship race barley defeating Randy
Parmenter at the finish but Dave Cummings Jr. won the point Championship. The
Powder Puff winners were Gina Triskett and Beth Valquez. Mike Hess won his
fourth feature event of the year in the E-Mod class. Bobby Rohrer won the
Limited Late Model feature and Pat McGuire was crowned the point Champion. Dave
Tackett, Mike Boyd won the Mechanics races.
Dana
Wellington and Merle Burlingham brought the first Spectator feature to the
speedway. Burlingham was the leader after the first lap as the caution flew for
Barrett Brown, Dennis Lunger and Rush Firestone. Wellington was second with Pat
Passanise third and Steve Keith fourth. Passanise spun into the infield on the
restart and kept going but the race was slowed once more as Matt Lazowski and
Barrett Brown spun in turn four with just two laps complete. Wellington fell
back on the restart relinquishing the lead to Mark Ramsey with Keith second and
Bill Baker Jr. third. Passanise, Jason Stetson and Rick Sperry tangled in turn
one on lap five for the third caution. Sperry and Lazowski were involved in
another spin on lap nine ruining a twenty-car length led by Ramsey. Ramsey
maintained his lead through the final two laps for the win with Steve Keith
second and Brian Crandall third.
Joe Houser led the first lap of second Spectator event. Jermin Strickland
was second with Josh Lucas third. Lucas moved into the second spot on lap four
as Strickland fell back to fifth then spun coming out of turn one for the first
caution on the event on lap six. Houser got into trouble on the restart and Ken
Jackson running third was caught up in the event and ended up rolling over on
the backstretch. Jackson was okay but his car sustained major damage. Houser was
placed first for the lap six restart with Chris Couchenour second and Dave
Surenna third. Houser slid high on lap eight allowing Surenna to pass on the
inside for the lead with two laps remaining. Houser fell to fourth allowing Dave
Auge and Dave McClanahan second and third. Surenna led the finial two to win the
last Spectator event of the year.
John Pencille and Greg Johnson were on the front row of the Outlaw Cadet
feature with Pencille grabbing the lead at the start followed by Johnson, Louie
DeDionisio and Glenn Slaney. Jeff VanArsdale and Gary Eicher were fourth and
fifth. Pencille moved into lap traffic on lap seven and the yellow fell as Pete
Alspaugh and Eugene Bevil spun in turn one. Bob Zeteel spun on the restart
bringing out the second caution. The top five remained the same at the half way
mark when the yellow flew for Derrick Dickerson in turn one. The first three
remained the same as Eicher and Slaney battled for fourth. Jim Martin brought
out the caution on lap ten with Slaney fourth and Eicher fifth. Pencille
maintained his lead on the restart and led the next four laps when Zeteel spun
in turn four. Tom Norland and Dustin Eckman spun ruining the restart with two
laps remaining. Eckman slowed to a stop high in turn three bringing out the
final caution with one lap remaining in the event.
Mike Kosinski was the early leader of the Budweiser Super Sportsman
Championship event with Hank Francis second. Francis spun into the infield on
lap two and Randy Parmenter moved into second with Robert Nocero third. Gary
Foster and Joe Buccola Jr. spun on lap five for the first yellow. Gary Foster
slowed on the restart for the next caution and Don Stanley and Scott Bayle
tangled on the next attempt. Scott Bayle became a contender on lap eight passing
Parmenter for second. Parmenter fought back to second on the next lap allowing
Kosinski a small advantage. Kosinski was into lap traffic on lap thirteen and
maintained his advantage over Parmenter. Dave Cummings Jr. brought out the
caution on lap eighteen setting up a two-lap dash for the win. Kosinski fought
off Parmenter for the win with Bayle a close third.
Tom Anderson came out on top of lap one of the E-Mod feature event.
Anderson slowed to stop two laps later bringing out the caution and allowing
Justin Carlson the top spot. Tink Mealy was second with Bill Thomas third.
Debris ruined the first restart but the second was successful. Thomas beat
Carlson to turn one to become the leader on lap five and the yellow flew for Jim
Irwin in turn one. Carlson and Dave Hess Jr. hooked bumpers on the restart for
the fourth caution of the event. Mike Hess was now second with Charlie Winchell
third and Tink Mealy fourth. Anderson slowed to a stop on lap eight for yellow
number five. Randy Parmenter started fourth on the restart with Winchell third.
Mike Hess passed the leader on lap ten. Thomas spun two laps later as Mike Hess
pulled away from the field. Mike Hess was aligned first for the restart followed
by Dave Hess Jr., Booty Petsko and Winchell. Mike Hess went on to win the event
for his fourth win of the season. Mechanics Race winners were
Bobby Rohrer was out front at the drip of the green but Paul Briggs lead
lap one. Rohrer fought back on lap two and Briggs spun on lap three. Rohrer took
control on the restart with Joe Weber second and Pat McGuire third. Aaron
Robinson spun on lap five for caution number two. McGuire raced with Weber for
two laps before moving into the second spot. Rohrer and McGuire moved away from
the pack over the next several laps as Weber, Steve Moynihan Mike Moore
contended for the third spot. Briggs and Brian Fardink tangled on lap sixteen
allowing the field to catch McGuire and Rohrer. McGuire tried an outside pass on
lap eighteen but ran out of race track at the start finish line as Spanky Hall
showed two to go. McGuire was unable to catch Rohrer in the remaining laps
giving Rohrer his fourth win. McGuire finished second and was crowned the point
Champ.
