Dan
Armbruster Wins on Brad Penn Oil Night at Stateline Speedway
by Glenn Slocum
Summer finally arrived at Stateline Speedway, just in time for Autograph
night sponsored by Brad Penn Oil distributed by Coyote Performance in Sugar
Grove Pa. A large number of fans joined the racers on the track for a half hour
of autographs and give-a-ways in the middle of the racing program. Dan
Armbruster made a clean sweep winning his heat, the American Racer Dash and the
feature event. It was the third feature win by Armbruster who also leads the
point race. Popular driver Matt Lamphere won his second of the season in the
Outlaw Cadet division. Randy Parmenter won the Budweiser Super Sportsman race.
Matt Beck won his first Spectator feature and Paul Norman won his second of the
season. Al Cressley was third with two to go in the E-Mod feature and took the
lead coming out of turn four on the final lap to win his third of the year.
Scott Gurdak led every lap on the Limited Late event.

Dan Armbruster and Ted Kosinski were on the front row of the Super
Late Model event with Doug Eck and Rich Gardner in row two. It was a dead heat
after one and Armbruster by half a car length on lap three when the yellow flew
for Scott Johnson who had spun in turn three. Ward Shell was caught up in the
incident and had to also go the rear of the field. Armbruster took control on
the restart but after just one lap Chris Blose, Bryan Emory and Randy Lobb got
together in turn four bringing out the yellow. Gardner followed Armbruster with
Eck third and Kosinski fourth. Gardner moved up along side Armbruster on the
restart and passed on the high side going into turn three. Dusty Franklin had
troubles on lap eight allowing the field to catch Gardner. Armbruster was second
followed by Eck, Chris Hackett and Kosinski. Andy Boozel lost a wheel on the
restart aborting the restart. One more lap was complete then Chad Valone spun
and Schell was caught up again trying to avoid Valone. Armbruster was able to
pull alongside Gardner on the restart but Dave Shagla stopped in four and the
yellow flew sending Armbruster back to second and Hackett was third followed by
Eck. Wally Fox spun on the restart bringing out the yellow. Rod Maloy moved by
Kosinski on the restart breaking into the top five as Gardner led. Bryan Emory
stopped against the back straight wall on lap thirteen and Eck left the speedway
with a broken tie rod. Schell had troubles on lap fifteen with a spin in turn
four. The top five were Gardner, Armbruster, Hackett, Maloy and Scott Johnson.
Armbruster was the big winner on the restart getting by Gardner but two laps
later Dusty Franklin spun and the race came under Spanky Halls yellow flag.
Armbruster was back in control stretching his lead to fifteen car lengths with
five laps remaining. After leading most of the event Gardner could not catch
Armbruster over the last few laps allowing Armbruster to win his third of the
season. Hackett finished third followed by Maloy and Johnson.
Jamie
Erhard brought out the Outlaw Cadet class for their feature event and Matt
Lamphere led lap one. Mark Hall and Louie DeDionisio were second and third at
the close of lap three as Erhard slipped to fourth. Lamphere had caught the tail
end of the file on lap seven leading Hall by several car lengths. Phil Knight
was running fourth with Ron Seeley in the fifth spot. Lamphere took the two to
go and never looked back wining his second feature. The race almost completed
with out a yellow but three cars collided in turn three of the last lap so the
yellow and checkers flew together. Hall was second with DeDionisio third. The
three involved in the last lap incident were Eugene Bevil, Phil Knight and Jim
Bergman.
Stu
Rickart spun into the infield on the initial start of the E-Mod feature causing
a complete restart. Tim Rater led the first lap followed by Dan Nocero and Bill
Thomas. Quincy Turner spun before the second lap could be completed for the
second yellow. Nocero was the leader on lap two when Matt Swanson, Dale
Applebee, Bill Thomas and Dave Hess Jr. collided on the front straight. Hess
drove to the pits but Swanson, Applebee and Thomas required three wreckers to
separate then all three were towed from the speedway.
Rater led the next lap with Nocero second then Justine Carlson.
Carlson passed Nocero on lap five and began challenging Rater for the top
spot as Al Cressley came up to pressure Nocero. Nocero tried getting under
Carlson on lap seven but lost control, spinning for the fourth yellow. Rater was
out front at the half way mark with Carlson battling Cressley for second and Stu
Rickart a distant fourth. Cressley moved under Carlson with two to go and then
made the move by Rater coming out of four with the checkers waving. Cressley won
by half a car length at the flag and Rater beat Carlson by half a car length for
second.
Scott
Gurdak was out front at the end of lap one of the Limited Late feature. Mike
Coyle was second followed by Bob Vogt and Paul Briggs. Pat McGuire slowed in
turn two bringing out the yellow on lap three. Vogt beat Coyle on the restart
for he second spot. Gurdak was beginning to stretch the lead over Vogt when the
caution flew for Dan Shellhouse on lap six. An incident on the restart collected
Bobby Rohrer and Coyle. Briggs was third followed by Les Lyon and Tom Schnars.
Todd Church brought out the yellow on the restart. Vogt tried to get under
Gurdak on the next restart but failed. Vogt then fell into the clutches of Paul
Briggs as he was alongside Vogt on lap eight when the yellow flew for Tom
Hagberg in turn two. Briggs was second on the restart with Vogt third and Chad
Ramsey fourth. Vogt lost another spot on lap ten to Ramsey as Gurdak led. Ramsey
passed Briggs for second then tried running down Gurdak. The yellow was shown
for Shellhouse who spun on lap eleven. Ramsey moved close enough to challenge
Gurdak but Gurdak could not be shaken from the lead.
Joe
Buccola and Bob Van Arsdale tangled on the first lap of the Budweiser Super
Sportsman event sending Van Arsdale up on the back stretch wall and Buccola into
the pits. Mike Kosinski led followed by Hank Francis and Tom Kosinski. Mike and
Tom Kosinski led lap two but past champion Randy Parmenter was out front after
three. Pete Volpe was second followed by Aaron Robinson and Tom Kosinski. Pat
McGuire stopped in turn four on lap six for the second yellow. Parmenter, Volpe,
Robinson and Don McGuire were the top four. Mike Murray stopped going into turn
three with two laps remaining for the third caution. McGuire passed Robinson on
restart but Robinson passed him back on the last lap as Parmenter won the event
unchallenged. Volpe finished second.
Mike Beck brought out the yellow on lap two of the first Spectator feature
as Nate Lester and Dennis Lunger led. The restart saw Tommy Fox, Chris
Couchenour and Dana Wellington spin in turn two. Lester led lap two then tagged
Lunger in turn four one lap later resulting in a spin by Lunger and the third
yellow of the event. Lester was sent to the rear of the field for spinning the
leader. Brian Crandall was the new leader followed by Mark Ramsey and Steve
Keith. One lap later J. R. Brown and Fox got together causing the next yellow.
Matt Beck was aligned in the third spot behind leaders Crandall and Ramsey. Beck
took the top spot away from Crandall who seemed to stumble coming out of turn
two on the restart. Pat Passanise ran into the turn three wall for the fifth
yellow. Joe McMurdy brought out the yellow on the restart after hitting the
wall. Crandall took the lead from Beck on the restart then blocked Beck one lap
later and the two leaders touched with Crandall spinning in turn two. Beck and
Ramsey were the leaders with Mike Beck in the third spot. The final lap was
completed with no change to the lead positions, Matt Beck winning followed by
Mark Ramsey and Mike Beck third.
Josh
Silleman led the first lap of the second Spectator feature then gave way to Ron
Bush on lap two followed by Brian Johnson and Joe Houser. Johnson had mechanical
problems on lap five retiring to the pits then the yellow flew for Merle
Burlingham. Joe Houser went high to pass the leader on the restart then cut him
off coming out of turn two forcing Bush into the infield causing caution number
three. Houser and Silleman were the leaders followed by Paul Norman and David
McClanahan. Norman moved from third to first on the restart then just as the
leaders completed the lap a incident in turn two involving Brian Graham and Dan
Surrena brought out the yellow. The leaders were Norman, Houser, McClanahan and
Silleman. McClanahan jumped into the second spot on the restart but could not
catch Norman who went on to win his second of the season, Houser finished third.
