Busti NY: Smirnoff distributed by Arthur R. Gren sponsored the evenings event
featuring a Championship race for the Super Sportsman and a “Run What Ya Brung”
race for the Super Late Models. Dan Armbruster won the contest for the largest
sideboard in Super Late Models with Dave Hess Jr. last week’s winner a close
second. Scott Gurdak won the Super Late Model event after race leader Chris
Hackett got into trouble on lap twenty-one. Jamie Erhard won his second Outlaw
Cadet feature. Randy Parmenter took the lead from Chad Carlson on lap seven then
cruised to the victory in the Super Sportsman Championship race. Dennis Lunger
won his second Spectator feature taking the lead from Tommy Fox with two laps
remaining. Justin Tatlow led them all to win his first Spectator feature. John
Pencile won his second Limited feature after passing Tom Schnars on lap nine.
Dave Hess Jr. notched his ninth feature win in the E-Mods not counting his win
in the York Triathlon race last week.
Aaron Robinson and Scott Kuschel were on the front row of the Super
Sportsman Championship race. Chad Carlson took the led on lap one. Tom Kosinski
brought out the caution with three laps complete after losing an engine. Carlson
remained the leader after the restart and Randy Parmenter second followed Don
McGuire. Parmenter passed Don McGuire for second then the yellow flew for
Kuschel in turn one. Parmenter and Carlson battled for two laps with Parmenter
coming out on top on lap seven. Carlson slowed one later and retired from the
event. Mike Kosinski was in the third spot with Pat McGuire in fourth. Parmenter
led the final laps unchallenged with Don McGuire second and Kosinski narrowly
beating out Pat McGuire for the third spot.
Al Crocker was the loser in a first lap incident in the Super Late Model
event. Crocker started seventh and some managed to cross the track in front of
the majority of the field striking the wall at the exit of turn two and every
other car got by. Chris Hackett came out on top on the restart. Doug Eck spun
trying to avoid Dave Hess Jr. collecting Andy Boozel on lap three for second
caution. Scott Gurdak was second followed by Ted Kosinski, Hess, Rod Maloy and
Randy Lobb. Hackett jumped back in front on the restart with Gurdak close
behind. Hess fell into the third spot. Andy Boozel collected a track tire on lap
five bringing out the third yellow. Bryan Emory was pushed into the pits during
the yellow. Rich Gardner moved into fifth on the restart and the top four
remained the same. Gardner passed Kosinski on lap nine for the fourth spot.
Hackett was in heavy lap traffic from lap ten on with Gurdak never more then a
few car lengths behind. Gurdak and Hackett battled through lap traffic then a
spin by Kosinski collected Rod Maloy and Hackett was caught down low trying to
get around the incident then spinning into the infield and stopping. Hackett was
sent to the rear of the field for stopping during the yellow. Gurdak was the new
leader with Gardner also benefiting from the accident to get by Hess for second.
Chad Valone was fourth with Dan Armbruster fifth and Randy Lobb sixth. Hackett
protested the call and was sent to the pits. Valone make a bold move on the
restart taking over the second spot from Gardner. Armbruster passed Hess with
two to go. Valone jumped the cushion on the final lap letting Gardner and
Armbruster by, Armbruster took the second spot from Gardner on the back straight
as Gurdak won the event.
Tom
Schnars and Randy Lobb were first and second at the end of the first lap in the
Limited Late Model feature. John Pencile was third and Andy Knight fourth.
Pencile passed Lobb on lap five then the yellow flew for Les Lyon, Steve
Moynihan and Brian Fardink in turn two. Pencile and Schnars fought for the top
spot over the next three laps with Pencile finally coming out on top on lap
nine. The caution flew one lap later for Lyon and Mike Moore in turn four.
Pencile led the halfway lap. Knight grabbed second form Schnars on lap twelve
then Hagberg took the spot from Schnars one lap later. Lyon had trouble again on
lap seventeen spinning in turn four. Pat McGuire was aligned in the fourth spot
on the restart. Bobby Rohrer took fifth on lap eighteen. Hagberg used the
outside to pass Knight on the last lap for the runners up spot as John Pencile
took the win for the second time this season.
Jamie
Erhard led the first lap of the Outlaw Cadet feature with Scott Lewis in the
second spot. Pete Alspaugh caught Lewis on lap five just as the caution flew for
Greg Johnson who had spun in turn four. Alspaugh
slid up the speedway on lap eight letting Louis DeDionisio get by for the third
spot as the field began to get strung out behind the leaders. Mike Knight spun
on lap eleven just after Jeff Van Arsdale took fourth from Alspaugh. Lewis
bobbled on lap twelve then spun on thirteen collecting Alspaugh and point leader
Ron Seeley. With two laps remaining Erhard was aligned in the top spot with
DeDionisio second then Van Arsdale and Phil Knight. Mike Knight stopped on the
restart causing a yellow. Phil Knight took the third spot on the white flag lap
and Erhard took the checkers one lap later for his second win of the season.
Quincy
Turner and Jim Irwin brought out the yellow on lap one of the E-Mod feature as
Dan Nocero and Stu Rickard led. Al Cressley moved under the leader on the
restart of lap one to led at then line then nearly lost control one lap later
letting Dave Hess Jr. by for the lead. Mike Hess followed Dave around Cressley
for the second spot and Nocero was relegated to the fourth position. Randy
Parmenter, Justin Carlson, Matt Swanson and Quincy Turner tangled in turn one
with eight complete. Swanson and Parmenter brought the yellow back out on the
restart. Bill Thomas was aligned
fourth with Dale Applebee fifth. Hess led the final five laps with Mike Hess
second and Bill Thomas and Al Cressley waging a battle for the third spot.
Thomas beat Cressley with one lap to go for third as Dave Hess Jr. won his ninth
event of the season.
Bill
Van Volkenburg ended up sideways in front of the field on lap one of the first
Spectator feature to end the lap before it could be complete. Ken Jackson and
Steve Keith brought the field around for the second attempted start. Keith was
leading by several car lengths after the first lap with Jackson in the second
spot. Yellow flew for Volkenburg, Clarence Dickerson and Rush Firestone with two
laps completed. Merle Burlingham and Nate Lester were third and fourth for the
restart. Burlingham took second from Jackson at the drop of the green and one
lap later relinquished it to Tommy Fox. Fox followed Keith for one lap then used
the high groove to take the lead on lap five. Dennis Lunger was third as
Burlingham slipped to fourth. Keith suffered mechanical problems on lap seven
slowing to a stop on the front straight bringing out the caution flag. Chris
Couchenour spun to stop in the exit of turn two bringing out the caution with
two laps remaining. Fox shot up into the turn four wall on the restart giving
the lead to Lunger. Burlingham got loose on the restart and was struck by
several cars ending up stopped on the front stretch. Lunger held on for the win
with Fox recovering from his brush with the wall for second and Brian Crandall
took third. Fox was disqualified later after an incident in the pits.
Justin Tatlow and Bill Germonto brought out the second Spectator feature.
Tatlow led the first lap with Justin Krieder in the second spot and Scott Joslin
in third. Germonto spun on lap two for the first caution. Brian Johnson took
third just before the yellow flew for Mort John on lap five. Scott Perrin spun
on lap six collecting Barrett Brown as Tatlow led. The race was for second
during the remainder of the event as Tatlow won with a half a straight away lead
and Johnson winning the battle for second and Krieder third.
