Max Blair is the Fastenal Crate Late Model champion.

Busti, NY (August 9, 2014): Stateline Speedway memorialized Paula Southwell with a 40-lap E-Mod feature paying $2500 to win. Paula, daughter of veteran E-Mod driver Butch Southwell. Paula was the victim of a fatal motorcycle accident May 4, 2013. In a tragic coincidence, her father was at Stateline winning the E-Mod feature. The popular eighteen year old will be sadly missed by all she knew. Rich Michael led every lap except one on the way to Victory Lane, collecting $3480 for his efforts, including $980 in 'lap' money. In the 20 lap event for non-qualifiers Chad Carlson led every lap enroute to a $1000 payday.

The Crate Late Models raced for the Fastenal Championship with Max Blair leading the event from the drop of the green to the four checkers finish. The Super Late Model feature was won by Randy Lobb after battling Jason DuPont early in the event before opening his lead. Rob Blair came to second before the end of the race. Mark Frontera won his first feature event since 1994 after coming to the lead in lap two of the Street Stock feature event. Josh Frantz, all the way from DuBois, PA, took the lead at the halfway point of the Challenger feature from early leader Steve Morse and went on to the win.

The Street Stock feature started with Bill Reeves and Eric Paulus on the front row but four of the seventeen starters failed to complete lap one, piling up in turn three. Paulus led lap one with fourth starting Mark Frontera coming to second. After two more restarts in lap two Frontera took the lead. At lap eleven Eric Paulus slowed but didn't get off the track before several cars spun trying to avoid him. Frontera held the lead through to the finish for his first win of the season, and first since 1994, over two-time winner Jason Covey, then Dennis Asel, Mark Thompson, and Guy Adams.

The Paula Southwell Memorial brought thirty nine of the fastest E-Mods in the area to Stateline with six heats setting the field for the features. The "A" Main featured 25 starters with Joel Watson and Mike Kinney, both from Ohio, on the front row. Prior to the start of the race Butch Southwell and David Scott, both in cars owned by Southwell, paced the field. Watson took the immediate lead but slid high in turn one allowing Rich Michael by coming off the turn. After only one lap Watson pulled to the pit. Kinney then ran second with Kyle Bedell third and Vic Vena fourth. Opening night winner Brent Rhebergen held fifth in the early going. Vena experienced mechanical problems at eight laps in and pulled to the infield, advancing Rhebergen to fourth and Jack Young to fifth. Young got to fourth at lap eleven. At halfway Michael had a fifteen car length lead over Kinney, Bedell, Young, and Rhebergen, opening it even more in heavy lapped traffic. Twenty Six laps were complete when caution finally slowed the event, for Greg Johnson, who slowed at the pit entrance and waited for the race to be slowed. When racing resumed Michael and Kinney again showed the way with Kinney just edging Michael at the line by one-one thousandths of a second (!) at lap twenty eight just as caution flew for an eight car pile up in turn two, again slowing the race. At green Michael again came to the lead with Bedell coming to second with ten to go. At thirty two laps complete Dan Davies came to fifth. With five to go Kinney and Bedell were side by side for second at the stripe but Kinney again held the spot a lap later. Michael went on to the win with Kinney second, Bedell third, and Young edging out Davies at the line for fourth. The Victory was worth $2500 plus $980 in lap leader bonus for Michael.

The twenty lap non-qualifier's feature was paced by Chad Carlson and Steve Rex and paid $1000 to the winner. Five racers failed to negotiate turn one, immediately slowing the race. Carlson took the lead at the drop of the green with Rex second and John Boardman third, all the way from tenth on the starting grid. Carlson was into lapped traffic by lap five and had a near quarter lap lead by the end of six laps. Jarrod Silvis, after running a lap on a flat right rear tire, looped his mount with eight laps compete. At halfway, coming off a restart, Rex was alongside Carlson at the line but Carlson was back ahead a lap later. Carlson pulled back to a half-straight lead by the time the checkers fell. Rex wound up second with Boardman third and Steve Samuelson fourth. Miles Stitzinger came to the flag fifth.

Max Blair and Bob Dorman were on the front row for the 35-lap Fastenal crate Late Model Championship with Blair leading the early laps through three cautions in the first six laps. Dorman ran second with Kyle Scott hounding him for the spot. At fifteen complete Blair had a quarter lap lead over Dorman, Scott, Chad Ruhlman (up from fourteenth) and Wyatt Scott. At twenty laps in Kyle Scott and Dorman were side by side with Ruhlman joining the battle for the runner-up spot. At twenty five laps complete Dorman was back solidly in second with Scott third but Scott came roaring back to grab the spot with eight laps to go. Disaster struck on lap thirty-one when Chad Schauers turned into the retaining wall on the back straight and was collected by Darrell Bossard and Wendell Pinckney. The race was red-flagged with the track nearly blocked but all drivers were ok.  When the race resumed with four laps remaining Blair and Kyle Scott took off with Dorman third, Ruhlman fourth and Wyatt Scott fifth. That was the order of the finish with Blair taking home the $1250 first place money.

Randy Lobb and Jason DuPont started the Super Late Model feature from the front row with DuPont surging out to the lead at the start. Lobb was even with DuPont at the end of five with the cars remaining side by side until lap seven when Scott Gurdak looped it in turn three for caution number one. After green Lobb immediately took the lead from the high side with yellow again falling two laps later when Bob Dorman spun in three. Lobb again led after green with Dick Barton getting by Max Blair for fourth at eleven complete. Dave Scott tried getting by Blair at twelve but got sideways, spinning into the infield for caution number three. After yet another caution at lap twelve Lobb continued to lead with DuPont, Rob Blair, Barton, and now Chub Frank filling out the top five. Rob Blair came to second by five laps to go and tried to close the now-sizable gap to first but Lobb maintained his lead to the checkers with Blair second, DuPont third, Barton fourth, and Frank fifth.

Josh Frantz, all the way from DuBois, PA, took the lead at the halfway point of the Challenger feature from early leader Steve Morse and went on to the win over Morse, Aaron Liberati, Jimmy Diabo, and Travis Darling.

Next week at Stateline Speedway early national racing pioneer Julian Buesink, a Clymer, NY native, will be honored in a 50-lap Super Late Model feature paying $5000 to win.
